      Huh.  Thanks Wittman.  Maybe TripleA confused me on that one.  Can’t recall if it actually happened or if I was concerned that it might happen.  Either way, I know now.

      Regarding prices, here are some quotes that I got from two different Southern California print shops  (I had posted this also on the thread entitled Ambilzi & Grasshopper’s 1940 Global Map)

      The first print shop provided the following estimates (note the $52 set up fee):

      SET UP:  $52.05 ( digital color file set up, latex printer set up)

      48" x 105" vinyl $142.63  print digital color 4/0 on white smooth vinyl (15oz)

      48" x 105" canvas  $300.13  print digital color 4/0 on canvas

      48" x 105" versa fabric  $273.88  print digital color 4/0 on versa fabric

      53" x 116" vinyl  $174.63 print digital color 4/0 on white smooth vinyl (15oz)

      53" x 116" canvas $368.13  print digital color 4/0 on canvas

      53" x 116" versa fabric $335.88 please note: print cannot be any larger, printing on a 54" rolld

      A second set of quotes from a different Southern California printing company for printing on vinyl (the type of material used for advertising banners):

      48"x105" ,  white 64" Roland EcoSol Banner, solvent 6 color Roland 4sf  $230.80

      53"x116",    white 64" Roland EcoSol Banner, solvent 6 color Roland 4sf  $258.78

      56"x122.5",  white 64" Roland EcoSol Banner, solvent 6 color Roland 4sf  $277.42

      (I might check on the AliBaba website to see what I can find for printing services in China.  Also, I’m checking on the possibility of printing on upholstery vinyl and marine vinyl).

      cruisers suck.
      they are too expensive. i think at 11ipc they would still be purchased infrequently. even at 10ipc they would probably be bought at a 1:1:1 ratio with destroyers and subs.

      Well, Africa was the site of several campaigns throughout the war, and those territories were important in the overall “clash of empires”-vibe that really defined the beginning of WWI.  From what I have read, only the Western Front bogged down into extensive trench warfare, and that area is where it shall be a matter of yards.  The Eastern Front and Africa will be more mobile, I would imagine.  Otherwise, as you stated, Shakespeare, that really would be utterly impractical unless Larry stays true to his tendency for really wildly skewed map projections.

      Just make it a NO for the US that it needs a cumulative die roll to obtain nukes

      Certain things have to happen in order for the US to roll “Atomic Dice”

      Allied control of Rome
      No Axis controlled territories in Africa
      The Axis cannot control US originally controlled territories in the Pacific (Guam, Midway, Hawaii, Johnston, Line, Philippines, Aleutian)
      The Axis cannot control UK originally controlled territories in Europe (London, Scotland, Iceland, Gibraltar)
      Anzac has to have collected IPC that round

      Before Germany goes in that round, the US gets to roll a die for each of the following:
      US Control of Rome
      US Control of Hawaii
      US Control of Caroline Islands
      US Control of Marianas
      US Control of Iwo Jima
      US Control of Okinawa
      US Control of Marshall Islands
      France collected IPC that round
      Allied Control of Egypt

      You have to roll something like six sixes in order to obtain an atomic bomb.  Thats six sixes cumulatively.  Alternately, you can make it a cumulative total so something like you have to roll something like a die total of 40-50 cumulatively on the die roll(s) over multiple rounds.

      Each nuke thereafter costs the US 1/3 of its IPC to purchase it (so probably something like 25-30 IPC at this point in the game).

      The Nuke works just like a SBR however it can only be on the Nation’s Capital (Tokyo / Berlin).  If the StratB’s with the Nuke(s) get to the roll dice phase for damage to the Major IC, then the attack is successful.

      A successful attack means that nation does not collect IPC that round.

      From the German perspective:

      Germany rolls a single die every round for the following objectives:

      German Control for each VC it controls

      So G1 would see Germany likely roll die for Berlin, Warsaw and Paris.

      Germany would also be able to roll die if it controls London, Egypt, Leningrad, Stalingrad, and/or Moscow which allows for Germany to go in any direction to obtain extra die rolls.

      Germany scores half (rounded down) its total die roll if the Axis does not control Paris and Rome.

      Germany has to obtain the same objective as the US to obtain an Atomic Bomb (six sixes or something like 50 total showing on the dice cumulatively through all rolls).

      I believe this puts the Atomic Bomb in play for Germany around turn 7-8 if it never loses Paris and owns London.  However Germany could only really play that Atomic bomb against Moscow if it sealioned G3 as its pretty darned difficult for it to launch a SBR against the US.  In effect it penalizes Moscow for sitting back and really doing nothing instead of pushing back against the Germans.

      I think each round is supposed to be 3 months.

      That is exactly how we play it :)

      @goalievogel:

      Can planes scramble on Japan against lets say… American subs as long as they have subs or destroyers themselves?

      I believe that per the wording of the rules, aircraft can scramble in response to ANY combat move that ends in the adjacent seazone.  So they can scramble against subs.  But they cannot hit them.  So there’s no reason to scramble.

      Also, if japan has subs, they wouldn’t help Japanese aircraft hit american subs.  Only a friendly (in this example a Japanese, German, or Italian) destroyer would allow the defending scrambled planes hit attacking subs (as friendly destroyers assist in combat - this is obviously not the case on attack).

      Of course the Soviet units die - they are cargo.  Germany need not declare war on the USSR in order to attack UK ships.  The Soviets take their chances when they board a ship that’s in danger of being sunk by an enemy.

      @TimTheEnchanter:

      @Frontovik:

      i prefer 42 for KJF
      cause then you can put IC on those 4 IPC islands
      and there, japan is actually beateble
      Russia is also in offense first round, so germans have to withdraw a bit, which gives russia a bit more breath.

      You can’t place US ICs in the pacific (except phi) in '42.  per the official FAQ, the “original controller” of those islands is still UK, even though japan starts the scenario with them.  If us takes them, they are liberated for the british.

      sorry, my mistake :-)
      but i still prefer '42

      @Rammstein:

      Can Chinese units be placed on a territory that it just captured? ex. If China takes Manchuria with 1 Inf remaining, can it place its “purchased” Inf on it that turn?

      Yes.

      @Rammstein:

      If so, can US planes land on a newly captured Chinese territory?

      No.  The US and China share a turn, so planes from either nation can’t land in territories captured by either one on the same turn.

      @Rammstein:

      Does the 3 unit limit refer to Chinese or Allies units?

      Chinese units only, including the Flying Tigers.

      @Rammstein:

      Can a US plane attack a German sub if a UK destroyer is present?

      No.  The UK destroyer will not be involved in the battle, so it doesn’t enable the plane to hit the sub.

      @Rammstein:

      1 Sub attacks 1 Carrier w 2 Fighters, do the Fighters roll for defence?

      No, since there is no defending destroyer.

      @Rammstein:

      Placing Fighters on newly built Carriers: you can place newly built Fighters on newly built Carriers, right?

      Yes.

      @Rammstein:

      Do existing Fighters have to end their movement in the territory where the Carrier is to be placed, or do they simply land on the territory where the Factory producing the carrier is? This could be important if a Fighter is low on movement.

      The fighters must end their movement in the sea zone in which the carrier will be placed.

      @Rammstein:

      Here’s a situation that has bothered me for a while:
      Let’s say that Japan has 5 Transports in a SZ (a juicy target), next to that SZ they have 3 Battleships with Destroyers, Carriers, etc… it’s huge. One SZ away from this huge Jap fleet is 1 US Carrier w 1 Fighter, and 1 Destroyer. If the Jap Transports are 3 spaces away from the US fleet, the Jap Battleships etc 2 spaces, and 1 empty SZ in between, could you attack the huge Jap fleet with your Destroyer (the assumption being you could theoretically win any battle), and plan to move your Carrier into that SZ in NC Movement, while sending your Fighter to attack the Transports?
      The best way I can put it is: can you sacrifice any given warship in order to send Fighters on a suicidal attack under the assumption that your Carrier will be in range in NC Movement? Obviously, it would be worth it for the US in this case. However, the US Destroyer will obviously die, and the US Fighter will have nowhere to land. In this case, does the plane “crash”, thus allowing the US to sacrifice some units for a big payoff, or is this situation not legal at all?

      It’s legal.  As long as there is any chance whatsoever, no matter how remote, that the fighter will be able to land, the move is legal.

      Check out the FAQ for further information.
