    • RE: AA Europe '40 Box Art

      @LHoffman:

      Hey, what is this garbage about the Allies starting the war. The aggressor was clearly Germany in the West 1939 and Japan in the East 1931. Yeah, the Allies had to officially START the war otherwise the opposition would have simply laid down and we would not have had a war!

      Germany attacked Poland. POLAND. Not France or Great Britain. Yes, France and GB honored their pledge to Poland, but in doing so, they got the world involved in something much bigger than Hitlers plans on Lebensraum in the East. You do know that Hitler wanted peace with GB after the Battle of France, but Churchill wanted to carry on the fight?

      As for the box art, you are absolutely, 100% right. But what you are suggesting will never, ever happen. Using the Swastika will reduce sales for the makers of the game. We live in a market economy, and that’s that.

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      Turn order is:1. Germany
      2. Soviet Union
      3. Japan
      4. United Kingdom
      5. ANZAC
      6. Italy
      7. United States
      8. China
      and 9. France.

      Alright, so the Soviets move before Japan. Then I guess a lot depends on what the Soviet player does with those infantry. But judging from how easy it is to crush all of the chinese infantry in A&AP40, I’d say the Siberian infantry will be a pushover. Take them out immidiately, then start going south into China and then India. Somewhere along the way you also build a tank force that will roll straight through Siberia without opposition until it reaches Moscow. You won’t be able to take Moscow on your own, but you can help Germany take it, and also deprive the Soviets of all Siberian territories. You will still be going strong in China and probably take India.

      Btw, what is a polar express strat?

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      If KGF is equivalent to Ignore Japan, then this strat will fail. If Japan captures all of Asia and Australia and Hawaii(since the US ignores Japan),Japan will have 68 ipcs just in territories. It will have achieved DEI NO, solomon is/new guin NO, India NO, Australia NO, and Hawaii NO. This would give it 93 ipcs, which would make it stronger than USA’s 80

      Does that really matter if Europe is crushed? If the US throws all her might on Germany, and Berlin falls, can Japan compete with the Allies? Unlikely.

      And why would the Japanese player ever attack Russia?  There’s little incentive.

      There are huge amounts of incentive. Attacking Russia immidiately with Japan and round 2 with Germany means you’re not that far away from taking Moscow, at least not compared to how long it will take the Allies to get things organized and going. I’m rather hoping there will be some sort of (optional?) rule regarding a non-aggression treaty between Russia and Japan. Otherwise I fear that the same tactic always used before (crushing Russia between Germany and Japan) will still be in effect.

      Japan will take 5-6 turns getting to Moscow. This is not like previous games where they have no enemy in Asia; the UK will be at their thoats if they focus on Russia, as will the US

      Trust me, it will be the road to victory in this game too. Sure, Japan will have a harder time in the Pacific if they go after Russia first, but if you reach Moscow along with the Germans turn 5-6, you will win.

      I’m positive that KGF and JTDTM will still be in effect.

      Let’s say you take Moscow. Then what? In order for the Axis to win, they need 14 out of 19VC’s. If they don’t capture washington, san francisco, london, or ottawa, they have to capture calcutta, honolulu, or sydney, which won’t happen if Japan is losing the pacific. Japan will lose Chinese territories and DEI’s while focusing on 1 ipc territories. I remember larry mentioning how he did an air strike against russia as Japan and failed.

      Perhaps. Lets hope you’re right. When the game comes out, I will be going all in on this strategy to see if it still works.

      Now, I don’t remember the turn order. Does Japan go before Russia? If so, you can hit those 2 Inf border areas right off the bat. If Russia goes first, there will be time for Russia to consolidate some of them creating a stronger defense.

      If Japan goes first, all you have to do is taking out those infantry, then sending a tank force through Siberia to Moscow. If the US is focusing on the Pacific, there will be hell to pay in Europe, since Germany and Italy will be all over the place.

      @anderb:

      france will fall G1. they fell like dominos against the german wehrmacht. they were so sure of themselves, that the germans would attack their maginot-line. suprise, they did not. i just cant undersztand why all you guys want france to play a role in this game, its bound to fall. hitler wouldnt let himself have two front on mainland europe. i will serve sauerkraut and bayer in moscow by G5.

      Didn’t you read my post where I answered you about the Maginot Line? Again, the point of the Maginot Line was that the Germans would NOT attack it, instead going around it. That way, the French could choose where to fight them.

    • RE: How is France going to survive even 1 round?!?

      @anderb:

      france had one of the largest standing armies at the start of ww2. but it doesnt help much, when germany just went an other way than thru the maginot-line. as stated above, france will be seize to exist on g1. as we all know, france fell like domino-chips. nothing can stop the german wehrmacht…… maybe the russian winter.

      Maybe you should read up on WW2. The point of the Maginot Line was to force Germany to go around it, funneling them into the french armies in the north. It worked like a charm. The problem was that the blitzkrieg tactic was too strong for the french, and also that the jerries sent armor through the Ardennes.

    • RE: Operation Sealion a Possibility with AA1940 Europe?

      @SgtBlitz:

      Just wondering how these were going to fit into the global picture…  May be best for Axis to go after Russia first since it will have the least amt of units/firepower with the most easily available resources AND it won’t activate the US war dec.  Thinking there might be a SOVIET war economy that gets activated upon invasion, that might be interesting change to game.

      That probably depends on the amount of starting units that Germany has at its disposal G1. Germany must be able to defeat France quickly without having to depend to much on lucky dice. So perhaps a G2, G3 attack on Russia is more viable.

      An attack on Russia G1 all the while the Battle of France is still raging would also mean more or less ignoring the UK, right?

    • RE: Kamikazes for Japan, what for Germany???

      I can only see one thing that would be an equivalent of the japanese Kamikaze special rule thing. Germans should have Wunderwaffen (Wonderweapons), like V2 for example. Just like the Kamikaze were a last ditch defense, the German V2 belong in that category too. Of course Germany would only be able to launch these on certain areas, just like the japanese, and they should come in limited numbers, just like Kamikaze.

      I am actually thinking of using this as a house rule, in case it is not in the game (which I’m sure it’s not).

      @Flashman:

      The idea of Soviet units all fighting at 1 to represent the lack of leadership is interesting; but I repeat that the main reason the Germans did so well at first was that Russian units were deployed for attack; i.e. the air force was distributed amongst front line formations and was destroyed on the ground.

      That’s actually more of a debate among historians than a historic fact.

      @Subotai:

      In the real WW2 there was a KGF strat. About 75%-80% of US war production went to Europe.

      But the US didn’t kill Germany. Russia did. The US helped deliver the Coup de Grace. But in the game, with 80% or more of US IPC:s going to Europe, it will spell disaster for Germany. I know its a game, but it doesn’t hurt if it has some connection to the real thing.

      How about this NA for Germany, to replace the V2 NA:

      Waffen-SS
      Volunteers from all over Europe joined the Waffen-SS, to fight with the Germans. At its hight, this armed wing of the SS consisted of 38 divisions.

      Once per turn, you may place one infantry for free in Germany.

      I would say that Finland was a pro axis neutral, Sweden was not. If Sweden leaned towards one side, it was the axis, but I do not agree about it being a pro axis country. Sweden caved in on some demands, yes, but out of cowardice, not pro axis sentiment.

      Im willing to bet that one of the German NOs might be to take Stalingrad.

      Not without taking Kaukasus also. They should get NO bonus as long as they hold both Stalingrad and Kaukasus at the same time, representing Fall Blau.

      Since they did have a lot of iron ore that the Germans wanted.

      That came from Sweden. It was only shipped through Narvik. The iron from Sweden was of strategic importance for Germany. Keeping Norway should definately be a german NO. If its not, then it will probably become a popular house rule.
