How does one steamroll through the Soviet forces? I think that requires a very bad Soviet player.

I have NEWS. It may not be what everyone wants to hear but it is atleast a time line. I have been informed by the factory that they will be READY in 6 weeks. I will post a pre-order in the next couple of weeks.
The wait is almost over! We have a deadline for completion.
That’s good to hear. At least we now how long it takes. The waiting is hard, but it’ll be worth it.

RE: USSR Invasionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Am I the only one who always upgrades to a Major Factory in Germany on the first turn? I never see it mentioned but to me it’s obvious. You need to be able to mobilize 10 units there.
Yes, because everyone is doing sealion right now and building a carrier G1
I see. Well, I’m not much of a Sealion guy, more of a Barbarossa guy. On G1 I’m already thinking Barbarossa.

RE: Axis Winposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
you started at 3 and after 5.5 hours you were tired? 8:30 is past your bed time
Or did you mean 3am?
I dont know about you, but I’m usually pretty tired after 5 hours of playing, no matter what time in the day it is. Tired doesn’t always mean sleepy.

Anyone customised figures for this yet?
The splendid HaT El Cid range look great for this.
How about these:

RE: Technology is a bad strategic investmentposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Tech is fun. That’s the point. Like playing the lottery. And I recall it is an OPTIONAL rule?
now that is logic that i can agree with. we play these games to have fun, and if you find rolling for tech fun then you should role tech.
i am not saying to not use the optional rule of tech. i am saying they are a bad strategic investment. i would welcome my opponent to roll for tech in my games. but i think it is better to just houserule a fix like using the 50anniversary tech token rules.
Last time I played, the US player rolled for tech the first three rounds. Got Radar, Long range, Heavy bombers. Needless to say, that proved to be quite a problem for me as the Axis for the remainder of the game. Not saying you’re wrong, but I think his radar shot down more of my planes, his aircraft could fly from US to Normandy, and his heavy bombers hit every time and did more strategic damage.

I have played Revised, 1942 Edition and enjoyed them very much, but nothing compares to Global. It is simply outstanding! Thank’s again Larry. :-)

I’ve been thinking of incorporating trade rules into the game. Any ideas?
Perhaps use some concepts from Oltre Mare:

RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
after playing it i’m shocked there was any playtesting done by anyone with any degree of skill. that goes double for pacific.
Yes, because 1 game determines whether it’s broken
You’re of course right. Wait, no. After 1 game of Pacific I was on here getting DESTROYED by all of the fanboys for my UNREASONABLE thought that the game was unbalanced, and a J1 attack is unstoppable….go ahead, read through the pac40 forums, I’ll wait…
I’ve actually played the game MORE than once, thanks for reading that I “played it” and assumed I meant once.
Also, I have a board at home that is setup and used only for strat. While a game is being “played” strats are being discussed by members of the group on that board. I don’t need to stub my toe 40 times to realize it hurts. I don’t need to play global for 6 months to know that if EUROPE isn’t a massively allied game, that GLOBAL will not be balanced. Oh right, we’re going to wait for PAC40 adjustments to balance things out…MONTHS after release.
You don’t need to stub your toe 40 times to realize it hurts, but you’ll have to play 40+ games of AAG before you can say there are definately no counters to a specific strategy, that may, at first glance, appear to break the game.

I think I’d rather spend those IPC on mechs, tanks or planes.

RE: FMG GERMAN piecesposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
@Sergente:
What about Tiger I and … StuG III ??? I know StuG III isn’t properly a medium tank, it is a tank destroyer and it seems more like the italian Semovente 75/18, already used for the italian sculpts…
Actually it was an Assault Gun that came to fill the role of a Tank Destroyer, but still.

RE: 20+ hours of gameplay: is this game too long?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Is this game too long? That is to say, does the sheer scope of the thing hurt its playability?
No, I don’t think it’s to long. I have known since I first played Pacific that this game would require a weekend, if not several, to finish, and that finding players willing to commit to that would be hard. But still, some people play World in Flames, and that takes even longer. It’s just a matter of taste, and I don’t think AA Global is meant to replace the earlier versions, but rather expand on them.
Hell, me and my buddy are even thinking of using supply rules and stuff like that, and that would probably just make the game take even longer. But then again, we’re ok with that.

RE: Moscow Stack, a comon russian strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I was Germany last game and attacked round 4 with overwhelming forces, the russian player bought many infantry and just stacked moscow with 50 infantry. Japan was behind with 10 units but no reinfoircement, i was not in situation to attack 50 infantry at least for now but western allies were in position to land in france. So my question is, how to defeat a moscow stack while defending against USA and Brits? Isd this russian strategy a comon one in your games?
I thought to attack earlier or to buy more tanks. I did have about 28 mech and infantry, 3 mech with artillery, 12 tanks and some stukas/bombers.
Forget Moscow. Take Leningrad and Stalingrad, Paris, Cairo, Calcutta, Honolulu, Sydney and what not. You don’t need Moscow to win.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Yep. In fact, Finnish military aircraft are STILL marked this way.
Not really. Aircraft of the Finnish Air Force use a white and blue roundel. But the official flag of the Air Force has the Swastika.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
True about the Finnish version of twisted cross. They had used their version for quite a while.I think it was the personnal family emblem of one of Finlands early supporters(Rosen?).
It was also used by native Americans, among others.Correct. The Finnish Swastika had nothing to do with Germany. It was the family emblem of the guy who provided the first planes to the Finnish Air Force.

Hell, everything about the jerries in WW2 is iconic. The Tiger 1, the Flak 88, the Stuka, the very recognisable helmets of the german soldiers, the Panzer IV, the He 111 and Ju 88 bombers, the Bismarck, and so on…
God I love the german units :-D
Yeah, you have a point there. Most German equipment was very unique and probably easily recognizable from any other country’s forces.
By the way, have you ever seen footage of Chinese troops preparing defenses and getting ready for the Japanese? In some of them, they are wearing German helmets. I read somewhere that back before Japan was a member of the Axis with Germany, perhaps before Japan even attacked China, there were actually German military advisors in China for a short while and one of the things the Chinese got was the adaptation of the German helmets for their own troops. It just looks weird seeing all these Chinese soldiers forming up wearing German helmets. Some of the Finnish troops used German helmets as well. But then the Finns used a lot of German equipment. And they were allies to.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Well, it’s a good thing that FMG decided to do both colors so as to appease both the elite separatists like yourself AND all of us infidels who dare to mix them. One thing though, since WOTC has come out with the Stuka, I am assuming that FMG will use a different plane as a tac bomber, perhaps the Me 110. If you are going to dispose of your WOTC pieces, then you are simply doing without the Stuka? One thing that has prevailed in these discussions is using models that were “iconic”. Well, the Stuka is about as Iconic as you can get for WW2 German aircraft. Most anyone who is familiar with WW2 knows the Stuka. Heck, WOTC even used them as fighters in the Revised edition because that plane is so well known. Frankly, I think doing without it is plain silly.
