      There are four kinds of pilots : Ace, veteran, Average and Poor. So I don’t think there will be rare ,unc and common planes. I don’t see any special markings on the cards about that. And all the Rookies are Poor pilots by the way, and the I-16 ’ Abu '.

    • RE: French Set…need help to finalize set.

      My suggestions for French tanks :

      Hotchkiss H35 / H39 or  Renault R35 / R40 => 37mm guns -> light tank .  H35 and R35 -> 1939 ;  H39 and R40 -> 1940 ( May )

      Somua S35 => 47 mm gun -> medium tank, 1940

      Char B1 bis => 47 mm  turret gun and 75 mm hull gun -> heavy tank, 1940

    • RE: Next Sets from Historical Board Gaming

      @Tall:

      As far as the Russians go, I hope there are plans that include Russian Airborne Paratroopers. I thought Paratroopers were a “standard” part of HBG’s Supplement Sets. I hope they still are. Thanks for your time.

      “Tall Paul”

      Ditto, since the german will have their own Fallschirmjäger. The British must have airborne units too but no sure about the japanese and italian though, puzzled…

    • RE: Heavy transports and special forces

      Hi Tall Paul,

      I like what I read so far and agree with all your suggestions and opinions.

      The heavy transports and airbornes units add a new twist in the game. With the costs involved there won’t be that many of those units around because after the initial battles you will have to build more airbases into captured enemy territories to keep going with airdrops. Same if you want to use the heavy transport planes in ncm, you need to buy more airbases, all those IPCs that we used to buy other units with before.

      Of course, once you buy a few heavy transports and don’t lose them, you don’t have to buy more anymore like tanks,infantries etc.

    • RE: Historical Board Gaming Russian Set

      @knp7765:

      Did Russia use Airborne troops in WW2?  I don’t remember hearing of Soviet paratroop drops.  I understand that we could use them in our games since they tend to stray from history somewhat, like Germany buying an aircraft carrier round 1 – Germany never actually had a functioning aircraft carrier.  I’m just asking because if there were no Soviet Airborne troops in WW2, then Coach may have a hard time making a sculpt for one.

      There were some drops but very few of them. Since I can’t post pictures, from the link, go down the page a bit and there it is :

      @Tall:

      Radar231 and Others,

      @radar231:

      I also think that transport planes should carry up to 2 paratroopers, like sea transports.

      Well, just think about how HUGE an ocean-going Transport is in comparison to a C-47 Transport. They can even transport Tanks. The WW2 Paratroop Transports that we’re discussing here were much smaller in comparison. And having the capacity of carrying TWO Partroopers in every Air Transport is IMHO too powerful and game-changing. If the attacker wants to have an overwhelming force he should have to build and pay for it. The ability to strike at longer range via the air is the capability that the Air Transport/Paratrooper offers.

      "Tall Paul"Â

      Ok. I agree on one paratrooper per plane when doing a drop. Did we have a price tag for the plane ? It should be cheaper that the sea version though, like +/- 5 ipcs, no attack and no defence and destroyed if by itself in the same zone with an enemy figther ?

    • RE: Heavy transports and special forces

      @knp7765:

      I still think allowing only 1 paratrooper per transport plane is too low.  Basically, a paratrooper is an infantry unit.  Why would anyone go out the expense of using the transport plane to just bring 1 more infantry into the battle?  Also, if the territory you are attacking has AA guns, you risk losing that transport plane plus the infantry.  If you are going to go out the expense of a transport plane, you ought to be able to at least deliver 2 infantry to the battle to make it worth the while.

      I have a question about the range.  You mentioned paratroops can be dropped up to 2 spaces behind enemy lines.  Lets make an example:  Say the Allies have France with the airbase in Paris.  The enemy line would be Western Germany and Northern Italy.  Now, ALSO say the Axis have no units behind those lines.  So the Allies could send paratroops over to Greater Southern Germany and/or Slovakia/Hungary and capture those territories with Paratroops?

      Hi,

      I also think that transport planes should carry up to 2 paratroopers, like sea transports. About the range, if the territories have no units in them, then you take them with paratroopers without a fight. Which mean that you have to plan to leave defending units in almost all your territories now. :-o

    • RE: Any allowance for "defective US torpedoes"?

      Hi,

      In Global 1939, with the D12 system, the american subs hit on a 3 or less untill turn 9 then hit on a 4 after. Since I got Global 1939, I don’t play Global 1940 anymore. I know there are still some trimmings to do with G1939 but with all the new units from HBG and FMG, that’s the only way to go for me. Cheers

      Hi Tall Paul,

      That’s how I played the USA, activating Brazil, while playing Global 1940. But with Global 1939, I let the Anzac activates Brazil and most of the territories in south america, more $ to Anzac, + the neutral territory in africa while going towards s-a.  :wink:

    • RE: Global 1939 variant

      Hi Koba,

      Humm, not sure you have the latest rules. The ones I got are 4.1v. And on section 6 for naval units, the battleship are on subsection C and there is no mention of repairs. The rules before 4.1v had them though, repairs and carrier instead of battleship and on 6b.

      Also with the older rules, there was a suggestions page and on it it was mentionned to add a minor industrial complex to all of the Minor Axis country. there was like 7 suggestions on that page.

      Ref to France, it uses to be with #4 U.K. and Minor Allies, then moved to #2 spot with Russia & com. China, and the Free French are with #4 Uk,Dutch.

      I agree with your suggestion of distinction/clarification about France though.

      I don’t think the USA can take over Allied neutral while still itself neutral.

      Fortification are taken out like IC upon occupation, that’s how I played it.

      I will wait and see/read the official replys before going on.

      Hi, there is a file on BGG ref to those cards by Coachofmany and modified to fit Global 1939. Check it out to see if they are close enough to the ones you are looking for.
