      @schim69
      Hi Paul,

If you want you can send me a DM with your contact information so I can add you to our A&A whatsapp group witch currently has 31 members :)

We are in the process of planning the next event in the south of the Netherlands (near Den Bosch). Most likely the next date will be the 21st of September. I will post a new thread on this forum once the date is final.

      Hi all,

The group has grown quite quickly over the past few weeks. We have people from all over the Netherlands, so finding people in your general area should be easy. Every once in a while we try to organise a bigger event where we have multiple tables.
Next session will be June 29th in Lelystad.

Currently we probably will have 3 tables playing A&A global

The question for the rule sets is still open.
At least one table with OOB rules and potentially one table playing Siredblood’s Bloodbad Rules.

    • RE: Stopping the J3 Calcutta crush

The main reason would be to delay the Japanese attack for a turn or have them suffer heavy losses when attacking or potentially leaving the burma road open.
It forces Japan to make choices on where it wants to go and at what cost

Bringing the tac is an option but the loss of both planes may seriously undermine russias defense capability

Additionally you can declare war on Japan in R1 and fly 1 fighter from Moscow to Yunnan. This means the opening in J1 there will be a lot more hairy. The fighter can retreat to Calcutta or Russia in R2 having served the purpose of slowing the Japanese opening.
Fun way to throw Japanese players of balance first time you play this.

    • RE: Pearl Harbour Attack

      Back on topic
I agree with most of the comments here but love the idea and look forward to try this cripple the us early and end them in panic mode as there is no fleet left.

@Afrikakorps said in Pearl Harbour Attack:

I hope (and assume) my pearl harbour attack with german sub in atlantic and philippines invasion will influence the USA to be more defensive in the first two turns, building up his fleet (having lost 3/4 of his fleets in J1). This gives me breathing space to manoeuvre my fleet and have unprotected transports build in S6.

One crucial thing to note US can still attack your unprotected transports. 1 fighter from hawaii flies to SZ6 and lands on the carrier from SZ10 in SZ7 while the fighter that was on the carrier lands in Hawaii.
No thread of a landing as the transports are gone so no need to panic and just slow build up while japan loses a build and since they don’t take Hawaii miss the naval range to be effective.
This has almost cost me a game once. It was due to the forgiving nature of my opponents that they let me correct the mistake after having spotted my error after combat had been conducted.

    • RE: Thoughts on where to go from here!

As Germany/Italy I would put a blocker in SZ104 and SZ109 postponing the American landing by at least 1 turn.

Additionally any units that are on either normandy, holland and southern france will never be able to counter an invasion as you are spreading yourself thin. I would put a force in France that is able to clear any invasion on the beaches of all the different territories. Therefor try and invest in a number of artillery there.
This tactic works when you can support the counter with enough airforce. Therefor I would try and ensure I have more airforce. Strat Bombers can reach Moscow from Western Germany while you also threaten a bombing run on the fleet in front of Gibraltar.

As for Japan, it looks like the US put itself out of position unless they’ve build a naval base on Wake? They can’t reach Japan in one turn nor can they go to Queensland. There is no new build so you will have the upper hand for 2 turns. Build 2-3 more transports + fill your current ones and take them to the phillipines. Regroup your fleet and you have a force that next turn could go to the carolines (and take Sydney, go back to Japan if the US fleet moves in) or go west and take malaya and press onwards towards Calcutta (although you seem to be moving in there with most of your ground force anyway, so that may not be a necessity)

    • RE: Tjoek's Global 1940 setup charts: Updated Jan 31st

I’m loving this design (as you know) and will put these on my boxes (inside of the lid will be reserved for the global 1942 setup.

I’m not a big fan of the reference cards as it will be quite a large stack that in my opinion doesn’t help much in terms of setup time. Although it may be useful for new players.

@robert-t I feel your pain. Living in Europe makes shipping HBG pieces next to impossible. Bought my second 1940 Europe 2nd edition set second hand just to increase a number of pieces in the different armies. (2 battleships for Russia is just way to low…)

    • RE: Germany Turn1, what SZs do you feel must be attack?

The standard opening would be to attack 106, 110 and 111.

I personally like to take the gamble on the cruiser in SZ91 with 1 sub (and thus making SZ106 also more of a gamble or take 2 subs and leave SZ106 untouched). A hit in SZ91 means the UK has to commit more planes or take a gamble on the Italian fleet in SZ96. This helps Italy a great deal.

If Germany invests in a small fleet or bombers, it means you can leave SZ111 untouched as this fleet is unable to escape since it does not start from a harbor. So more adventures players may leave that fleet for G2.
Leaving SZ111 means you can invest in either clearing SZ93 or SZ109 by force (as the UK has a 4 plane scramble in that last SZ). In my last 2 games I’ve tried to go for a strong German presence in the med by taking southern france and clearing SZ93 during G1. This has had very different results.

In the first game Italy grew to +40 IPCs and ended up taking over all the oil and the whole of the Med. My buys as Germany however were not yet optimized for this strategy so I wasn’t able to take full advantage of the opening.
During the 2nd game the results were disastrous. Due to an overstretch that we hadn’t foreseen and some very unlucky dice roles (never blame the dice for your own incompetence but still…) the UK was left with both it’s 110 and 111 fleet, which meant Germany was forced to commit all of it’s airforce in G2 to try and clear the fleet. Effectively crippling it form the start.

So my conclusion for an opening on SZ93 is that I’m currently not yet sure if it is completely worth it. I’ll probably give it another try or 2 in the next few games to see the effects.

@taamvan said in Germany Turn1, what SZs do you feel must be attack?:

There is 1 fighter and 1 tac that cannot reach these battles, the fighter goes to Rome, the Bomber to Paris.

The fighter can also reach Tobruk, which helps defend the Italian pieces here against a UK opening to try and cripple the Italians in Africa even before their first round. If the fighter is there and they still attack, it usually means Egypt falls relatively quickly.

The bomber then goes to Rome to have a 3 plane scramble, forcing the UK to commit more fighters from London to clear the SZ97 fleet.

    • BBC4 podcast - the ratline

For those of you who travel often, there is a really good podcast by the BBC.

“A story of love, denial and a curious death. Philippe Sands investigates the mysterious disappearance of senior Nazi, Otto Wachter, and journeys right to the heart of the Ratline.”

Very good report of the impact of having a senior Nazi father/husband on the Wachter family both during and after the war. I liked how they have been able to remain objective throughout the entire investigation.

@djensen many thanks for all the hard work.

I’ve noticed one minor bug. When logging in, the forum will not load the darkly skin but will keep the default until I go to settings and reset the skin there.

The problem does not occur for me while the auto-login is still working (so when returning to the forum the skin remains to the one I’ve set)

Awesome, I’m looking for a way to create 3d versions of the air & navalbase together with @Tjoek. These are definitely along the lines of what we were thinking as well.

For the recruitment center, what about using a 3d model of an army tent? Something like used in RPG games for barracks

Wow! I’m impressed by these lists!

So far I only come to:
      Classic
      Spring 1942
1942 2nd edition (map & rulebook only, using spring units)
      Europe 1940 2nd edition
      Pacific 1940 2nd edition
