Those look pretty nice. I just bought some peices from war age of imperialism for my game im making though already. They were selling a set for a nation for $3. Not the right period but they will do. Now all i have to do is get then on thisboard for the my first playthrough for my game tomorrow.

Sorry my picture quality is horrible.

Well turns out that my friend let me use his  photoshop. I redid it and now i have a nice quality complete map all complete with names, money values and sea borders… I dont think it would be wise to post it since its huge but its pretty similar to whats above.

Now what i want to do is print it off. I have another friend who owns a company that prints banners and advertisment stuff. Wondering what would be the best material to print my image out on. The file size is about 6 feet long by about 4 feet so it would be doable.

Are there any games with nice minatures from the 18th century? Would like an infantry calvary and artillary model. The nicest peices if found were from napoleon in europe but thats the wrong period.

Those two countries are Polish Commonwealth and Austria. Austria just won a war with spain and gained naples, and belgium (flanders)

      In total, playable countries are:
      Spain
      France
      Great Britain
      Ottoman Empire
      Austria
      Polish Commonwealth
      Russia
      And possibly Prussia

At the time germany was seperated into many princes under the holy roman empire. Technically the Austrians were emperor over them but it wasnt a very centralised rule.  They were pretty much independent, so i chose the ones that were pretty powerful, and gave them the land. Im trying to make rules that allow you to influence the minors in the game to perform actions for you such as move their armies to attack adjacent provinces. You can also just attack the minors and take the provinces for your own aswell.

Ive been drawing it with mostly gimp and paint.net. I really wish i could use photoshop since ive used it before, but its very expensive.

Ive been trying to save it in a larger resolution but it just doesnt give satisfying results in gimp.

Hey, i trying to create a map for a new board game that I’m making for myself. Its not the most professional made, with no naval borders drawn up, borders not complete and many details missing so its pretty roughdraft. If people could give advice, on how to improve the map borders or how to improve the “picture” so that its not pixellated when i print it, that would be very appreciative.

The game will be similar to the rules of axis and allies but set loosely in about 1720’s. There are no set alliances and only one nation can win the game by capturing 3 capitals.

    • RE: India

Maybe pentalize the british then? How about an increase in the cost for units to be put in india. For every land troop you put in india, you have to pay 2 more ipcs for each infantry and 3 more for artillary. 4 More for any other unit that is bought there That way the British will be more inclined to pay for its units in britain, and if it wants to recruit in india, itll be more taxing on the economy. That way there isnt a cap limit, and can be improved by making gains by campaigning.Infantry will be the norm since artillary will be horribly expensive, industrial items like that should be rarer. If people feel the british are being to penalized too much, you could always reduce the rolls for the ottoman units by one to make the feel of the front better.

As well as these, also make Germany much stronger, or France weeker. That way we have a british player who can win or lose the game for the allies based on how they manage their recources.

    • RE: India

I would rather weaken france and force the british to spend there rather then inda. Either less french troops, smaller navy or something. Maybe both and increase the german navy. Not enough to plow over the uk, but will at least be a threat, and the uk will think twice about attacking it.

That way the uk will only think about india if the ottomans are knocking on the door. Just limit it to one art to 3 infantry ratio and  when that time comes, the uk will have the ability divert the recources for the defence.

I use older risk peices for cav. They dont fit the best but its the closest i got.

    • RE: Cavalry Unit

The reason i dont want cavalry to fight as well as infantry because on the western front, they were never as effective as infantry. Also alot of the defences used in battles were either prebuilt, or they were built fast enough before the enemy arrived. Hence why calvary should not be affective even on the opening battle.

The reason why calvary is so weak on the western front is because they were. The western powers did not keep recruiting more and more calvary during the war because their cost greatly outweighed their value. This is why calvary will be starting units in the game but phased out as they die. They should disappear on the westernfront like they did historically.

I split the areas where calvary could be affective because only in the easternfront, middleeast and africa could they be a useful unit. Maybe just have the cav out number the infantry to get combat bonuses, and upgrade 2 artillary foreach unit available. This way Russia and Austria wont have to buy as many planes as calvary could do the job. As calvary start dying out and they cant produce enough cav to cover the arty for an effective cost, they will have to buy planes. Itll be a gradual progress of building an airforce over the war and i think it would represent it historically.

In the middle east and africa, calvary could attack at a 3 and defend on a 2 all the time and give bonuses to artillary like the eastern front.

    • RE: Cavalry Unit

Calvary was rendered mostly useless on the westernfront due to barbwire, machine guns, and fast firing rifles, but it had battles where i could have made a difference.

When the campaigning season of 1915 opened, western allies expected to launch assaults that would break the the germans.

Attacks would begin with heavy artillary bombardment by field and seige guns. The infantry would go foward with bayonets and clear the trenches with calvary ready to charge through the breakthrough  to dirupt the rear and reinforcments. Massed infantry columns would surge through and finish them off.

At Neuve Chapelle, this plan almost worked. The artillery smashed the front line, and the infantry got through will lightly held trenches. By the afternoon, they had advanced past the german defences into the open countryside. Runners were sent to get the cav.

However the runners took forever and the cav commanders waited even longer for confirmed orders. The germans sent in reinforcments and quickly dug new trenches before the calvary could get across the battle field. When the artillary was called to strike again, they ran out of ammunition and the attack stalled. Over the next infantry assaults, they suffered heavy casualtiesand called off the attack. If the cav had gotten the communication, it would have made a difference.

In the eastern front however barbed wire and machine guns were more thinly spread in the east allowing cav to be very effective. Cav could raid, scout and be used for reconnaissance which became impossible to do on the westernfront due to the confined battle areas… Even on the battlefield,  cav could be effective when used in large numbers. Flanking was also more viable due to the wide open spaces of the front.

      Heres what i propose.

      Cavalry cost 4 to produce

Calvary attack on a 1 and defend on a 1 in France, Italy, and German provinces that dont border russia and austria. They provide no bonuses like on the easternfront and will be phased out it like in real life.

However on the easternfront( anywhere in Russia Austria Balkans.), Cav can upgrade the arty like planes do. Both combatent nations can get there arty upgraded in the battle. Planes will still provide their bonuses like usual with or with out cav. If cavalry numbers twice what the infantry are, they attack on a 3 and defend on a 2. This will represented that cavalry on the eastern front were dangerous at many occasions, and you needed a good amount of infantry to cover the flanks.

I dont know if cavalry were extensivily used in the middle east, india, or africa so im not sure what the rules should be there. Feel free to give advice on what else could be added.

    • RE: Eastern Front Broken - $5 German tanks too powerful, income disparity a problem

When we have been playing, mongolia has fallen with alittle help with the comminist chinese, the casualties usually didnt amount to anything but that was probably luck.

Usually germany had sent its planes to to take on the british navy, take france, attack poland, on turn 1 which mostly left planes farther away from finland. Plus if germany went to war with the soviets turn 2, it will allow that tank to reach iran and collect the income and recieve the units iran gives. Plus the soviets can put there economy in gear and start putting out the units. The british can also send planes and drop a commando here and there to help with finland and norway. I dont know how it worked, during our  recent playthrough, but Germany has just gotten over eastern poland for the second time(only buying tanks), and itll have a hard time beating the soviets now starting turn 5.

    • RE: Eastern Front Broken - $5 German tanks too powerful, income disparity a problem

Russia can supplement its income by taking iran, iraq, and mogolia. Russia should also have taken finland, and norway depending on how much pressure germany put up north. Britian can send planes into leningrad  aswell, and bomb the German factories. Keep up the bombing and you should eventually even out the income that germany can spend against russia. Italy will need Greece and Yugoslavia to try to win africa, so if germany takes them, the allies will probably win africa with ease. This allows troops to travel through the south as well. Also once the the german navy and italian navy is down The allies can push pressure in many places. It may seem futile at first but this can take lots of pressure off of russia.

Siam shouldn’t produce income. They make one infantry per turn and thats it.

For minors, all you have to do is take the capital to take the income.
