    • RE: BBR 6.7

      @GAME-GURU said in BBR 6.7:

      IMO, the beauty of classic and the nostalgia which got many of us into this hobby was that a game could be completed in a day…BBR is an 8 rd varient, timed for 6 hours per side in tournament play…among many other tweaks that enhance gameplay, the genius of bbr lies in a railing system that greatly speeds up land movement, blockades so one dd cannot block entire fleets, and a victory point system that rewards nontraditional play.

      It stays close to source material so the leap from g40 to bbrr is not very large…one rd and you’ll have 90% of the ruleset.

      I’ve taken looks at other varients… needless complexity for the sake of historical accuracy or multi-day games…not interested, especially with a group of guys with busy lives.

      Well said, and my thoughts exactly…that’s why for me, BBR will always reign supreme among G40 variants.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

      @The-Captain Yes, interesting that these rules may become “official” at some point. Personally, I like BBR for its simplicity and not overly complex.

      1. You can actually finish the game in one sitting.
      2. Rules are minorly adjusted or tweaked to maximize dynamic play.
      3. Tech and objectives are slightly adjusted to open the board for more strategy to a new level.
      4. Play and action are so much faster and impactful in this version.
        In a nutshell, its just more fun!
        …and as they say…
        “Once you BBR…you never go back!”
        So true!

      I would play, but I just got into BBR (BloodBath Rules) Ruleset for G40. Pretty popular these days…with tournaments in 4 cities now. Probably the best version of the game I’ve seen yet…and I’m not one for house rules or variants either. You should check it out…You can search quick rule tutorials on Youtube.

      Looks like you are missing Japan 1 National Objective card in MediaFire download. Can you submit that?

    • BBR 6.7

      Hi everyone,

      Just wondering if anybody has played BBR with G40. I’m not big on “Variants” of any game. However, with G40 being way too long (thus TripleA and G42 tourny versions to play in one sitting) I was somewhat interested in this. I downloaded the rules, and wow! This is amazing! Can’t wait to play! Basically G40 with slight moderations and improved victory conditions. It looks like it’s really gaining steam with a lot of people too. HBG’s 1936 Global War and other of the like seems too complicated- like G40 on steroids. That’s NOT what I’m looking for. IMHO, BBR takes a good game in G40 (minus the long victory conditions) and high bids and makes it great. I’m interested to hear if…

      1. Anyone plays it here, can you play it on Triple A?
      2. For those who have played several games? What to you think of my early assessment so far?
      3. For the critics, what are the cons in your opinion that makes you play other options.?(I’m assuming if you want something more involved, that you look for another variant game).

    • RE: Online bid question

      @squirecam All in all, dice makes the game fun for me. Even online, I rarely use the calculator. When you play AA players have to accept that there are scores of individual battles in a game, so therefor by stats…

      1. Most battles will play out to their odds to a certain error.
      2. You will get dice whipped- the question is when and where.
      3. You will get real lucky- the question is when and where.

      The last two points are outliers that will happen in any game. The fun and tactical part of AA is that since you don’t know when it is gonna happen or where, that tests players tactical thinking as they have to swivel and pivot their strategies to a new sets of circumstances. Some may say the dice in an archaic game mechanic way even represent the “fog of war”.

      Btw, just wondering what the bid was for FTF more than online as these days I enjoy the company of people in gaming. And yes Smorey’s tourneys and online ones are really 2 very different games. Having been a part of both, I can truly say that the online players have a vast amount of experience, being able to play 10-20x more games than any FTF tournament players. However, FTF players have the advantage of more rigid parameters in their tournament experience (shorter time clock, no calc and a stripped down tourney setup).

      Both are great in their own right, but you definitely have to switch gears a bit when going from one to the other.

    • RE: Online bid question

      @Stucifer that seems about what I remember. I looked at several games and it seems like in G40 a lot of people add an infantry in Yunnan, 1 inf in Egypt, 1 sub in the Med off Egypt and 1 sub outside Gibraltar. If that is the case in almost all bids, they should just be added to the standard setup IMHO…

      1 inf >Yunnan
      1 inf > Egypt
      1 SS > 98
      1 SS > 91

      What is the current or typical bid range for G40 2nd edition among online players?

      Also, same question for G42 (GenCon LHTR) version.

      I’m back after a 10 year hiatus. Played online Triple A and PBF for years before then. I played G40 mostly but will play most anything else. We also have a 5-6 others that play. If interested in FTF games, you can msg me. We meet at a nice local game shop.

    • I'M BACK!!!

      After a 10 year hiatus, I’m back! Since then…

      Life- 3 to 6 kids
      Got into other games ex. TI4, Memoir 44, WOTR, Root, TMars etc.
      Renegade has revived this brand! So good!
      Got 2 young boys (8 and 5) getting to that boardgaming age. Time to shake off the dust on this old favorite.

      Used to PBF and Triple A here for several years, Con tourneys and the like. Probably won’t go that far anymore, but looking forward to reinvesting in the AA line and playing with my boys and a couple friends again a few times a year. Curious to dig up old strategies I used to use (KGF, KJF, Sealion and other variants) for AA50, G40. Looking forward to the tactical games as well. Will they revive AA minis and War at Sea also? That would be cool.

      So instead of a grand AA Collectors Edition or maybe an action card expansion or something, they come up with this crap.  My God, this game is terrible.  Can’t change my mind all you homers- this version is STUUUUUUUUUUPID. :x :x :x

      @Krieghund:

      @djensen:

      The upside is that a younger generation might see this game and become interested in the regular Axis & Allies game as well as WWII history.

      Precisely.  This is the reason that Larry created A&A in the first place.

      This may be controversial, but anything that gets new players interested is a good thing.

      Company line…c’mon guys, please give me a break.

      @Dajokr:

      This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen or heard. Disrespectful to the memory of those who fought and mentally lazy game design.

      First A&A game I wont own.

      As a long time AA fan, 110% agree.
