germany will build up its forces along the border until turn 4, when it will attack. the russians will mass most of their armies in leningrad, belarus and w ukraine. they will leave minimal units on the border in order to have maximum reserves in the rear. the german goal will be to take w ukraine and hold it. they will do this by using italian units to declare war on russia on I3,attack the border units and eliminate them, opening a path for the germans. on G4, the germans, using mech, armor and air, will attack and destroy the russian army exposed in w ukraine. after capturing w ukraine, it will begin to fortify this area with units it produces from its new factory in romania with the aim of using it as a base to assault and take the more valuable southern territories of russia. only a few russian units will be able to counterattack from belarus on R4, so russia wont be able to counter immediately. using the marshes to protect its northern flank while having a small force in e poland to prevent attacks from the rear, germany will force the russians to react to this threat head on. russia will mass armies on the belarus-smolensk-bryansk-rostov line and will launch counter-attacks to reclaim any territory captured. germany will concentrate on the south, but will have a small force to check any attack from the baltic states or belarus. the germans will begin to capture all of the territories worth two, to break the russian economy or at least draw out russian reserves to fight and not allowing them to stack up in moscow. germany cannot fight all over russia so it must pick a route either north or south of the marshes. the south is more valuable and so russia will fight harder to protect it. germany has more chances to succeed if it forces the russians to fight rather than retreat and stack up units.

@Sire:
Instead of waiting for a German attack, why not send troops to bother Japan? The mechs and tanks can be send to China and the three Russian planes can be used to support the 18 infantry stack on the Far East.
My friend and have been playing a game for two days and this strategy helped me a lot to keep India alive. This way, UK and China can deliver some solid blows to Japan and help the US player positionn himself in the Pacific.
this will work in Global but this is Europe…Sire

RE: Tanks too expensiveposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
i understand the mech infantry/tank explanation but i dont like the price hike….russia should get 5 ipc tanks once at war
-
RE: Tanks too expensiveposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
it is strange…nothing costs 5 IPCs
Nothing costs 1, 2, 9, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, or 19 ipcs either.
or 21, 22, 3,001, 15,390, 4300, 113, 1/2….

Konigstiger
Stalingrad. Divide the map up into two halves: one half city of Stalingrad, other half of the map the area from which operation Uranus was launched. The more troops the Germans lead into Stalingrad the bigger the chance they won’t be able to hold the perimetre. Some die rolls might be nice for the Russians so the Germans don’t know exactly how many Russian units are lining up for the attack. Id Stalingrad itself is taken, Germans win.
Excellent idea,sir !!!

RE: AAG40 balance Pollposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
UN SPacey said
And as I said, victory is almost guaranteed
Spacey has the right thinking. Given enough time, there will be games where G1 attack fails due to really bad dice rolls (boxcars and 5-fever) for G and all bullseyes and deuces for France. A lethal first two rounds that tilt the balance to France. Germany will come out and roll a quick 5-5-5-5-5 (say it fast so it sounds like a machine gun) for two rounds while France uses those “special” dice and voila, victoire…Vive le France!! It will happen
on side note…my brother has one weird die that I call “Cyclops”. Its an ugly whitish-yellow die with a giant dot for the 1…now i dont want to call him a cheater plus i dont think he would go out of his way to rig a die but this dammed thing rolls 1 after 1 after 1. when he pulls it out we both laugh and then he rolls a dammed 1 and i fume.its really amazing. im sure there is a scientific explanation, like lead painted dots for the 6 ( which is opposite the 1 on the die).
edit to use digits instead of spelling numbers

RE: How to counter J3 India Crush?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
India Crush doesnt mean game is over. i got “crushed” and still won as the allies. Korea is the weak link for Nippon. some may disagree with that but in time you will see, young ones. 8-)

any new game should be Kursk. it should have a hero general for each side–zhukov vs manstein or hoth. get some heavy tanks, assault guns and katyushas going. make arty deadlier. have snipers, AT rifles, engineers, mines, grenadiers, flamethrowers, HQs, armored trains, anti tanks guns, pillboxes, strongpoints, tank traps, trenches, barbed wire, booby traps, supply trucks. have ground attack planes. have spies and partisans. there would be cards to decide things like the weather, ammo and fuel. the germans have a two strong but smaller forces while the russians have mass and a reserve army. do it, dammit. do it now.
