      An additional comment:
      you can already see what I mentioned in your game - the 7 transports in the channel. 3 are already there, 2 additional next turn and 2 more the turn after. I can transfer 14 units to France, while Germany can only build 8 in Paris per round. So Germany has to plan early where to get more units from. Infantry from Franfurt need 3 turns to reach the action, so they have to start moving early.

      A comment on the British strategy:

      I think is a common standard move. The main difference between usual openings is, what UK buys

      1. 2 transports in the channel for fast land reinforcements in France
      2. Carrier in the channel because Germany build navy (I would call this a pure answer move)
      3. Carrier in Egypt to put pressure on Italy

      So far I can see little pressure, so I took the transports, as I can still buy the carriers next turn without getting into problems. But of course this is already a slight decision for UK concentrating on Germany.

      Concerning Italy - I have to look it up, but I think I normally buy 1 carrier and 2 transports.
      My main targets are preparing Greece and Morocco in I2 … and of course taking Tunis.

      Normally there is little to comment on France. In France you prepare to either defend Paris or to retreat. I can still choose between both options. Definding depends on the German moves of course.

      Because you dont threaten Morocco at the moment, there is already a decision for US - going south. This is a nice chance to decide the battle about the Strait of Gibraltar early. But I will discuss it in more detail later.

      sry, we can do the bid placement anyway you want it. In AA I always was under the impression that you can place your bid units anywhere, as long as there are units already.

      No, the bid placement is ok. I think you overestimate the use of the additional infantry in Finnland. I would have used it differently. Maybe a transport for Italy. So dont worry too much about the placement.

      About dice: it’s a nice difference, though Veqryn is of course right. But I see this as our first game, so you can get a first impression of what I am doing. Next we can change to ll.

      Great.

      Of course Finnland will hold much better now. Normally though placing bids is one unit per area in NWO. But it’s ok.

      Russia has 2 main possibilities:

      • going for Finnland
      • stopping the German advance in the south
        And if Germany goes all Baltic Sea of course defending Leningrad.

      So far I keep both ways open for me, but next turn I probably have to make a decision.

      Btw - I never played dice on NWO. That will be interesting for me, but it will be no excuse.

      @Ajmdemen:

      I don’t really think it is unbalanced, as Carthage’s naval initiative counts for a lot.

      So Carthage was my main mistake? I am still trying to find the strategy I have to change in the next game.

      Rome can hold for a long time by building fortresses, while the East seems to fall quite soon. Salamis also looks quite critical to me. But even if I had taken it, I am not sure, that Seleucia could hold nearly as long as Rome.

      I didn’t spot any serious mistakes (apart from the Athens rnd 1 mayhaps).

      But in that case the map is seriously unbalanced. A difference of 10 to 20% of income and the only one major mistake was not to punish bad dicing luck and one small mistake leads to that conclusion for me.

      Of course I can see a few mistakes on my side

      • Sicilia could be taken one turn earlier (or least Greece could be denied to retake Syracuse one turn earlier) - not much difference.
      • Seleucia has to force the fall of Salamis / Cyprus - nice difference.

      I just try to understand this map.

      @Ajmdemen:

      The game is set up so that Romans are on the defensive in the west and seleucs in the east. Seleucia changing hands alone is a swing of 20 in production, Carthage side doesn’t have as easy gains early on and for that reason might be bit more challenging to play, but i still consider the map quite balanced, though I can’t claim to know all the optimal moves…

      But the main question remains: did I make any serious mistakes that put me at such disadvantage? There is still an income gap of about 20. Or is it normal?
