    • RE: Which is the best sea unit?

The whole point of a fleet is to allow you to move land (and air) units around, or to stop the enemy doing so. So I am going to vote for transports (and carriers)!

@Colt45554 What! That is the second time those nasty Russians have attacked my superior liberating forces in Finland and slaughtered me. 40% odds only, but again won by a country mile. :anguished: +32 TUV! :scream:

      There are now 8 of us: @redrum, @Entek , @Witt , @aequitas-et-veritas , @Degrasse , @Elrood , me & @FMErwinRommel .

@FMErwinRommel is new to this groups but has posted above asking to join in. Is every happen to welcome another player to our fold?

1914 has a lot of Powers, one possible allocation being:

      Centrals:

      • Germany
      • Austria
      • Turkey & Communists

      Entente:

      • Britain
      • France & Serbia
      • USA
      • Arabia & Italy
      • Russia

So shall we roll dice and choose our powers according to that split?

The next Battle of Britain will be held on the 1st October 2023. Yes, I know that’s not summer, but diaries preclude an earlier date. Apologies to regular attendees. I anticipate the autumn event being held in early November and the winter one in January / February.

    • RE: NML 1914 Team Game 12

Hi Guys. I have been away for a few days, but see there are messages in my inbox from my allies suggesting we concede, so I believe you are safe to assume we are doing so.

I would like to play in the next game.

I suggest we give France Propaganda at the start of the game.

    • RE: Battle of Britain - 19th April 2026

@The-Captain Thanks! It’s a long trip, although if you hire a car, driving from Manchester Airport to the venue is 1 hr 20 mins. But it’s still not really practical unless you have other reasons to be in the UK.

When I looked at popping over to yours, that was the conclusion I reached too.

However, if you are ever in a position to join us, then you would, of course, be welcome.

    • RE: What are you reading

A Perfidious Distortion of History by Jurgen Tampke

Found this a very interesting read. It attempts to dismantle the often accepted view that the Versailles peace treaty was so damaging that it lead directly to WW2. I did not find every argument advanced by Mr Tampke convincing, but there is a lot of worthwhile argument and analysis, covering the causes of WW1, the subsequent peace and so the causes of WW2. The general conclusion is that Versailles - being so very much less onerous than treaties imposed by Germany on its defeated enemies - did not deal with the underlying causes of European conflagration, allowing those to come to the fore again.

For anyone interested, here is The Times review of this book:
