USA play for Advanced players (help)
Hey guys. I am a very experienced A&A player and have played a great deal of revised and global against high level competition. But for the life of me i can’t nail down a reliable strategy with USA in global. My UK and Russia are strong and I feel I could win some games with the Allies if I can even just be average with USA. The biggest problem I have is I am schooled originally in revised which the golden rule in revised with USA is choose either Pacific or Atlantic and put 100% of your muscle in that theater. That doesn’t work in global and I’m having difficulty generating an effective and balanced attack. Here is what I normally do with USA:
80% Pac/20% Europe
1. Rounds 1-2 secure Hawaii and New South Wales so Japan can not grab them.
2. Rounds 2-3 Once at war in Europe I try and get a carrier in SZ 92 supported by a UK air base in Gibraltar in order to deny Italy’s Med bonus.
3. Rounds 4-5 I sink what remains of the Italian fleet and get my subs into position in SZ 97 to convoy Italy.
4. Rounds 6+ begin trading Java/Borneo/Celebes/Sumatra with Japan in attempt to save India. (2 things happen here. Either Japan wins the Island exchange or I have to dump so many resources to taking the islands that Germany and Italy break lose in Europe.)I find that I lose whichever theater I don’t focus on with the USA. If I go Pac heavy I lose Moscow or Egypt. If I go Europe heavy I lose India and Japan gets lose in the Pacific. Does anyone have any tips that might help with USA?

Adjustable bid
Me and my buddy Adam514 play global very frequently and the more we play the more the Axis advantage become apparent. We take turns playing each power and the bid is adjusted +1 or -1 depending on who won the last game. If the Axis win, the allied bid goes +1 for the next game. If the Allies win then the Allies receive -1 next game. We play low luck and started the bid at 13 and it has reached 21 with the last Axis victory over a 20 allied bid. Here are the results so far:
Adam514 Axis victory (13 bid)
Pherman1215 Axis victory (14 bid)
Adam514 Axis Victory (15 bid)
Pherman1215 Axis victory (16 bid)
Adam514 Axis victory (17 bid)
Pherman1215 Axis victory (18 bid)
Adam514 Axis victory (19 bid)
Adam514 Allied victory (20 bid)
Adam514 Axis victory (19 bid)
Adam514 Allied victory (20 bid)
Pherman1215 Axis victory (19 bid)
Adam514 Allied victory (20 bid)
Adam514 Axis victory (19 bid)
Pherman1215 Axis victory (20 bid)3 Allied wins in the 15 games played so far. A few of the games were 15+ rounds, but the majority of them weren’t really that close. Axis were walking over the allies pretty hard. 2 of the 3 Allied wins were games where the Axis player made a pretty big mistake that let the Allies gain the upper hand and the mistakes could have been avoided. Our most common bid is 3 Anzac (inf NG), 6 UK (sub SZ 98), 4 UK (art in Alexandria), 6 UK (Tank in Egypt). But we have tried many other bid variants and none of them seem to really get the Allies in the game effectively.

You’re welcome. I hope it helps!

RE: The Mediterranean Sea
Bid art in Alex, tank in Egypt and kill Tobruk on UK1! If you don’t do this the Axis can stack Alex with Italians+ German air and deny your bonus for many turns. I hit the DD and Tranny off Malta with the standard cruiser +gib fighter and then I tuck my fleet to the backside of the canal (SZ 81 I think). Here my carrier allows a tac and a fighter from India to land on it. I leave the Italian BB alive in SZ 97 because it will not be able to stand up to the UK fleet I shove into SZ 98 on UK. On UK I will link up with a cruier/dd from india, air base Egypt and put my entire fleet back into the med. fighters from UK will land in Algeria where 3 French fighters will give them a safe landing spot and it’s check mate for the Italians. Only way to save the italian fleet is a German air base in Yugoslavia, which is 5 infantry Russia will never have to deal with and will only delay the inevitable. It put India in a tough position early, but that is already the case and those units will contribute greatly to putting Italy into it’s box by turn 3 or 4 at the latest.

RE: Need some strategies help on this map.
Yes, defending Russia is THE most important issue for the Allies in this game. Here is a guide to what you need to do to protect Moscow.
Russia: You should buy max bodies every turn. This means all infantry all the time (Assuming full Barbarossa). 37 PU’s should become 11 inf and an art or mech. The most common move Germany will do is ball up a large stack, attack on G3 and march straight towards Moscow. You need to be in place in Bryanks and then Moscow to confront this stack. YOU CAN NOT WASTE INFANTRY TRYING TO GUARD NOVGOROD, they will not make it home for the Moscow fight in time if you leave them behind even for a turn. The 2nd major thign you need to do is secure income that will insulate your production when Germany tries to seige you after you block the G6-8 hit. This is done by sending you starting fast units (2 mech and 2 tanks) to hit Iraq, preferably on R3. If it is full Barbarossa you need to stack the **** out of Moscow and wait for your Allies to equalize the game. If Germany attempts to move his stack to another area, then you can step out with your stack and make some noise.
UK: Your opening bid will be important for shutting Italy down early and this Allows you to shift from Africa/Med to helping Russia by turn 3-5. I Recommend bidding 13 and putting an art in Alexandria, a tank in Egypt and an Infantry in Anglo-Egypt Sudan and killing Tobruk on UK1. Don’t commit your tranny to the Tobruk fight, as you will need it to grabe Persia and turn 1. It is very important that UK land in Persia on turn 1 for two reasons. First, it puts you infantry in range in order to open NW Persia so the Russian fast (the 2 tanks and Mechs) can move threw and capture Iraq on R3. Secondly, you will want to place a British factory in Persia by turn 2-3. This factory will be used to fly planes to Moscow and also produce infantry so Germany can’t just waltz into Persia and Iraq and collect their oil money. I find it important to wrap up thing in the Med and Africa by turn 3-4 at the latest, because by turn 5-6 you need to be sending help to Russia ASAP. After Moscow is safe it still doesn’t completely fix the problem because Germany will be making 70+ and continuing to produce ground untis that you cannot match easily. The final stage of stopping Germany is taking you victorious med fleet out of the med and linking with the USA fleet which should be sizeable enough to land in Europe by turn 4-6, depending on how much USA is committing to the PAC.
USA: In general, i prefer a 80%-20% split for USA’s resource between the pac and Europe respectively. But this can very depending out which theater you wish to control the most. USA should build a fleet large enough that the combined USA/UK fleet can not be attacked by the German air force. Once this is done, link with the UK fleet in SZ 91 and build trannies and art/inf to land in Europe. From SZ 91 it is just a matter of picking your flavor. You essentially have 3 options. 1. you can take both fleets and land in Norway. Securing Norway is huge because it cuts 8 PU from Germany’s income every turn. 2. You can move the fleets to SZ 110 and begin trading Holland and Normandy with the Axis. Do this lightly at first just to bleed German units away from Russia, but begin to to it harder if you feel Germany is committing enough to respect your threat. 3. This is the least effective option in general IMO, but when you are in SZ 91 you should have a credible threat on Rome. If the Axis don’t proctect Rome with enough units, dive on it with a 1-2 punch from UK/USA, thus plundering an Axis capital. In general though this can be hard to do, and Italy will be shut down pretty hard just by putting 5 subs into SZ 97 and cutting the majority of their income.
Conclusion: Even doing all this sometimes isn’t enough because it can be tough for USA to spend enough resources in Europe to make this happen while containing Japan. And the strategy is contingent on gettign an early knockout on Italy in the med, which usually happens but not every game. But, if you’re able to execute it correctly Moscow should be safe for a considerable time. My buddies I play against are expert Barbarossa players and i rarely lose Moscow before turn 10+ if I do at all. So i hope this helps!

RE: 34 Turn game Allies win?
Hello AK_Grown, that’s exactly my point. Germany was strong enough to pin my combined Allied army in S-Italy by stacking N-Italy. Russia was holding up pretty well until Japan took Inda and then retook my Russian held Iraq and Somaliland from me a cut my IPC. Russia bled to death until Germany took their hit. S-Italy and N-taly stacks grew to well past 100 units for each side until USA’s shuck was halted by dire needs in the pac just a few turns after Moscow fell. The result was Germany hit my S-Italy stack (at that point about 120 units) and got in with 10 tanks remaining (which I countered with my next level transport schuck). I traded N-Italy and S-Italy desperately to deny Euro Axis victory (Germany had Egypt because my Persia stack of about 60 men returned to India to liberate it) until I finally had Japan bottled down enough to turn 100% of USA and UK money toward retaking Egypt. It was a crazy game.

RE: What round 1 battle do you dread most?
China’s counter on Yunnan turn 1. Not even a close 2nd for me. Losing that one is a kick in the nads and you have to go ultra heavy to get reasonable odds. God I hate that fight.

34 Turn game Allies win?
So, I may FINALLY win a game with Allies against an equally skilled opponent and i am a little concerned about how close it was considering all the factors. My bid was 12 with i took an art in Alex and a tank in Egypt and nailed Tobruk turn 1. I picked up Malta and tucked the UK fleet into the backside of the Seuz where it linked with a fighter and a tactical from India. Turn two I shoved the fleet back into the med in SZ 98 and airbased Egypt and linked up with a DD/Cruiser from India. Turn 3 was a double can open (France followed by USA) on two Italian DD’s which let me crush the main Italian fleet with very light casualties. Where it gets crazy is I get a Rome capture (and hold) and turn 4 because S-italy is light from landing 4 on Gibraltar (which i buy moderate sized tranny fleet to counter, instead of my normal 80% pac- 20% Atlantic split with USA) which get stranded when USA liberates it. So, on turn 4 USA captures N-Italy and creates a landing strip for the 10 UK aircraft that are nor in range of Rome. the landing force is merely the two UK trannies from the Atlantic which amazingly survived the 2 sub attack on the opening round. So, i get a bonus tranny/dd from Canada, crush the Italian fleet turn 3 and capture and hold Rome turn 4 and it takes me 34+ turns to get in position to win. And by position to win I mean Germany is making 124 a turn because it has all of Russia and middle east, but it doesn’t matter because Italy is at 0 and Japan is at 25 and Germany has no viable access to an 8th VC. I geuss the moral of the story is the Allies can win a 34 turn slug fest if conditions are perfect.

Ladder games.
I have noticed several people mention a ladder league for global 1940. I was curious where this is taking place and how i get involved. Thanks.

RE: How to save India.
Thanks for the input guys. I my games following this post i have been stacking India itself and using Mechs/air to keep Japan from having a landing site in Shan State. I figure this will make them take it with a exclusively Sea/air landing (which makes it more expensive) or they will have to wait until turn 6+ when they can safely stack Burma.

How to save India.
I have been practicing the Allies a lot lately and i find that i am strong on most points except UK pac. I buy max infantry every turn and I still get rolled by Japan. I would fly the Anzac fighter there but my opponents are very good and place a fleet off kwangsi and another fleet off the Carolines so i would have to spend 4 blockers to protect Java. I even take Persia round one and factory it round two and build speed units to move toward India. Does anyone have any good tips for helping UK pac?

RE: UK Opening Strategy
Taking out SZ 97 is the most crucial move for UK 1. Even if Germany is threatening Sealion all UK has to do is send the strategic bomber + the SZ 98 fleet (assuming a sub bid) and they have a 78% chance against a 3 fighter scramble. The only other viable option is buying an air base and Non combating the SZ 98 fleet over to Gibraltar. This is an inferior move in my opinion. Smashing Italy’s Cruiser, transport and BB on turn 1 is just so good.
