    • RE: đź‘‹ Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)

      Hi everyone!
So glad I found this site last week! I started playing Axis and Allies with the original Pacific from 2001. Loved the game since I first played but really got interested when g40 came out. Recently I’ve been playing bm3 on tripleA with my roommate which has been a blast. Our only house rule so far has been that attacking true neutrals is illegal because it seems unbalanced to us if for example the US owned Spain.

Currently my roommate and I have a very strange game going where he’s (axis) taken Calcutta, Moscow, and all of China while I (allies) have taken all of Africa and Western Europe (W. Ger, Norway, Denmark, N. Italy, S. Italy, and all of France). We’re 16 turns in and I’ve got about 1500 TUV to his 1000 and I’m ahead in production by about 30 but he doesn’t want to concede.

I’m trying to improve my gameplay and strategy and have greatly enjoyed reading these forums, especially the “Allied Playbook” essays and the warfare prinicples by AndrewAAGamer. I’d appreciate if anyone could link me any other “must read” articles!

Would love to play face to face in the Seattle area!

    • RE: G40 Balance Mod - Rules and Download

Hi, I’m new to the site so apologies if this post is in the wrong place.

I play on TripleA and have been enjoying balanced mod 3. When I discovered this website recently, I noticed people are playing balanced mod 4. However, when I try to find balanced mod 4 on the “download maps” page of TripleA, it isn’t there- I can only see balanced mod 3. Can someone tell me where to find balance mod 4? Also, does anyone know what changed from 3 to 4? I have tried searching but I cannot find any information on what changed.

      Thanks

    • RE: What is your biggest comeback in Global 40?

      @dazedwit
One time I was playing my roommate, who was playing the Axis. At the end of his turn, he had two giant German stacks next to Moscow. If I did nothing but buy and place units with Russia, he would have a 90% win on Moscow on his next turn.
I strafed one of his stacks with a huge stack of infantry and got super lucky dice. Then with UK I did a nearly suicidal run into his barely protected German air force.
On his next turn, he had only a 25% chance on Moscow. The game went on for a long time after that, but his troops never recovered, and his morale was crushed entirely.

    • RE: Bid for both Scenarios

@AndrewAAGamer This behind the curtain stuff is really interesting to read, thanks for typing out your thoughts. My friends and I who play together appreciate how much care was put into this game, and I completely agree that it is the most balanced A&A game.

One other interesting thing about North Africa is that since units have different abilities like targeted attack (as well as the supply cost of each round of rolling and the ability of defenders to retreat), there is no battle calculator available (yet). While I use a calculator frequently on every other version, I’ve enjoyed not knowing my exact % win on large battles as it adds another layer of tension to the game. It adds some unpredictability for both sides to deal with, which I find to be very fun.

    • PG's Simple Nation-Specific Units for 1942.3

      Hi everyone,

I have been enjoying using these unique units for 1942 Second Edition Tournament Rules.

      Russia:
Cavalry c3/a2/d1/m2, can Blitz. Max 5 on the board at any time.
Purpose: Allows Russia some more attack power. Sometimes it is really difficult to buy tanks with the USSR’s limited income but you need still need the ability to move 2. Since they defend at 1, they won’t make the final battle for Moscow any more difficult for Germany. This unit adds some interesting attack possibilities especially if Russia has a decent air force.
HBG has some pretty sweet cavalry sculpts and they have colors that match nicely with the OOB sculpts.

      Germany:
Maus Tank c8/a3/d3/m2, 2HP, can Blitz. Max 5 on the board at any time. Can only be built after Round 4. Repairs for free if it starts its turn on a friendly IC.
Purpose: Gives Germany another hard hitting unit. This one is mostly for fun and I don’t think the stats are very overpowered since I’ve put a limit of 5 on the board at any time. I also wanted to give Germany a bonus since I gave Russia Cavalry.
HBG has a Maus tank sculpt I use. I think Germany only built like 4 of these tanks irl but they’re fun to have in the game. If you prefer you can call them heavy tanks and use a sculpt of a tank that was actually produced in earnest.

      US:
Marines c3/a1/d2/m1. Attacks at 2 on amphibious assaults (not supportable by artillery on amphibious assaults) Max 5 on the board at any time.
Purpose: Represent the US Marine Corps and allow Island Hopping to be a bit easier for the US player.
I used HBG’s dark green Marines for these units.

To balance these units, I also play with the “Tokyo Express” rule which gives Japanese Destroyers the ability to transport 1 Infantry. I haven’t figured out a good UK bonus which would balance well with these small tweaks.

My group also really enjoys the “free factory” House Rule, which gives each player (besides Russia, we decided the Russian extra factory does nothing but help the Axis) a free IC before the game begins with the condition that it must be placed on a territory worth exactly 1 IPC. Typically, Germany puts theirs in Libya, UK chooses either Persia or Belgian Congo, Japan places theirs on Malaya, and the US chooses Sinkiang (sometimes West Indies if the US player is wary of Japan producing on the free factory). We enjoy this rule because it keeps Africa interesting for quite a while. Sometimes the US will get to place a fighter or two in China.

As another house rule, we often give each player one tech token at the start of the game as well. Russia is typically excluded because the Axis players in the group contend that a) Russia had a dearth of scientists at the time due to purges, and b) they would rather each side only get two tech tokens, and I tend to agree with them.

@crockett36 Thanks Crockett! Will do. Creating a real sense of doom and dread by surrounding Europe and cutting off Axis options is probably my favorite part of playing as the Allies.

@cmmiles I think it’s fantastic! Stack limits and supply really creates a whole new way of thinking. You can’t simply stack 25 infantry, instead you must be creative and figure out the best unit combinations for any given situation.
I also think the fight for control over the Med/ convoy raid system is really cool. It’s all on a knife’s edge for the first few rounds in my experience- very well balanced.

    • RE: New Game - World War II on the Western Front!

@jim010 Game looks great! I am curious about a few things. How long does a typical game take to complete? What is the impact of terrain and weather? Can weather ruin your Mulberry harbor like what happened in history? Is supply moved by trucks like in North Africa? (I’ve never played Bulge). Are any units necessary to play that aren’t in g1940? I notice what looks like two types of German tanks - perhaps they’re light and heavy tanks?
      Thanks!

@kyledavis97 Europe and Pacific 1940 are great. I haven’t played 1914 in like 10 years but it’s fun haha. We normally play 1942 because we can usually finish in a day, but we should definitely try 1940 sometime. Do you have discord?

@kyledavis97 Hey Kyle, I live in Seattle and I love playing in person games. Myself and three others get together every few weeks for a game in Sammamish. What versions of A&A do you prefer? And is the eastside too far to travel? We would definitely be down to add another to our group

@bratcher You must right click the transport, then right click the units you want to load, then right click the sea zone you want the transports to move to, then right click the territory you want to unload units into. Hope it works for you.

    • RE: Meet your new Axis & Allies Game, now with ... fantastic factions of finned fighters?

@thethedew I don’t own the game, but I think the main point of it is that it is not WW2 based. This way the game has appeal to people who aren’t that interested in WW2.

Let us know what you think after you’ve played a couple of games.

Your faction must control Turkey at the start of your turn to allow passage through the Turkish Straits.

It would make no sense whatsoever for Turkey be attacked (but not conquered) by Italy, and decide to reward that behavior by opening the straits to Germany.
