    • Need help choosing a glass top for my table.

      My table is nearing completion.  I map area is 3’x5’ and i would like to cover it with a piece of glass or plexiglass.  The thinnest I could find glass in is 1/4 inch without spending more than $200.  I’m afraid it will make the game pieces to appear hovering over the map but I like the scratch resistance that glass provides.  Any shared thoughts or experiences with this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    • Building table, suggestions for piece trays?

      Feels good to be thinking about AA again.  I had a lot going on the last 4 months with a new job and house but now I am going to start building the custom table I have been dreaming about.  It’s going to be a cross between YG and DK’s tables.  I have DK’s map printed on Vinyl (3’x5’) but I like YG concept of having pieces right in the table.  I’m hoping to keep my table around 6-7 foot long.  Any suggestions on trays to sort the pieces in or other methods to incorporate the pieces into the table?

    • RE: DK's Hybrid Axis and Allies Map and Rules

      Just got my your enlarged map today.  Getting my first map was scary at first because of the $90 price tag but once I had it in my hands it was well worth it.  Got it done from a store just down the street.  Got in on vinyl and they did a great job.  I was worried it was going to come back to me with stitching and grommets even though I said to not do them.  Can’t wait to get another one done.  Think I will go with Imperious’ Anniversary or 1942 map.  Thanks Imperious for making this possible for everyone here.  Don’t know what I would need a computer for if it wasn’t for Axis&Allies.org  :-D

      Well jet fighters and heavy bombers are in that category and they were my favorites even when I played the original.  Even though in your rule heavy bombers roll with 2 dice that’s still pretty devastating.  And then there’s heavy tanks.  Attack at 4, defend at 4, and for only 6 ipc each that’s one heck of a value.  I rolled rockets when using the USA which might be ok if playing as Germany, UK, or Russia.  Took to long to mobilize to make it effective.

      Just played Saturday with your technology rules using 1942 2nd ed.  Have your map ordered but wasn’t done in time.  Have to say I like the way it played out but the Rockets seemed underpowered compared to the other late war techs on the chart (which I received for my roll).  Game went 15 rounds and we played 9 victory cities to win.  Japan got the A-bomb first and layed waste to Russian occupied Europe with 5 long range bombers out of India.  Even though Germany was defeated I was in a race to acquire the A-bomb too which I failed to do.  Thanks to your copy card rule I wisely used it for America to obtain paratroopers.  With a little pre-planning I quickly put it into effect and captured my 9th VC before Japan could set foot on radioactive soil.  I also used the radiation and bomb roundels from HBG which looked great.

      DK do you got any R&D cards for your house rules?  If not I think that might be on my project list.

      DK, I apologize if I overlooked it but I cannot find your victory conditions in your house rules.  I assume you must play total domination or surrender.  I count 17 victory cities not including capitals on your map.  I always used to play total domination but in the past year have started using victory city conditions to help speed the game up and add depth to the strategy of the game.  If you use victory cities for victory conditions what do you set the goals at for the Axis and the Allies?  and how does it play out for you most of the time?

      Thank you!!  Unfortunately the print shop said they wouldn’t have it done in time for my game this Saturday.  I printed out your nation reference cards and the print shop is laminating them for me along with six of your battle boards.  I also painted all my ships last night to match your color code system.  I think it will help my friends out a lot.  While I was painting them I painted one IC for each capital with the respective nations flag on the sides.  I see now how people get addicted to painting their pieces, I want to start painting everything now.  The detail work is not as hard as I would have thought it would be.  How do your represent your flag ships?  I thought about just fully painting one battleship for each country for now or nailing a pin into it and attaching a flag.

      DK, I’m on my way to get your map printed at a local print shop I found for $90.  Can’t wait to bring it home.  I was wondering if you have a file or listing for the setup of the map.  I saw your pdf setup map but can’t get it to print to where the small words are readable.  Thanks again for posting the map.

      just outstanding!  great idea for the kamikaze tokens.  I use an American fighter from the original AA as my flying tigers unit China starts the game with.  So when can we expect those national objective cards to be uploaded?...nudge…nudge

      @Narvik:

      @pfc_pander:

      Just saw Fury also.  I give it a 8 out of 10.  I wonder if we killed as many Nazi’s in during the war by hip firing as they did in the movie.  Great tank battle though.

      The statistics of casualties from WWII says that 60 % were killed or wounded by artillery shells. 10 % by Tanks, and 10 % by aircrafts. 20 % were killed by infantry weapons, but I don’t remember the exact numbers. Machinegun fire killed more men than minefields. Hip firing with sub-machine guns was a typical close combat weapon to use in towns and cities. The same with hand grenades, bayonets, fieldspade and battle axe. Sniper rifles took some % too. I figure less than 5 % were killed by hip firing in the real war, but in Hollywood movies maybe 80 %. Looks cool though…… Kids love it

      I get hip firing with submachine guns or automatic weapons at close range and maybe even at mid/long range.  Hip firing a semi auto rifle (M1 in this case) I don’t get.  Looks dumb in movies when they do it.  At least no one was pulling grenade pins with their teeth.

      DK….after reading through your rules I like some of the customizations you added.  Looking at the R&D it seems like it is a nice way to prevent a game from running to long.  How has the R&D played out for you in some of your games and has it helped with putting a cap on the time?  It seems to me that if one nation buys a handful of research token for the A bomb it would make the opponent feel pressured to do the same.  fyi-just saw the movie Fury pretty good, 8/10.

      Hmm…maybe I frame and hang that in my game room.  Well said!  I always send links to the rules of whatever version I’m hosting but I don’t think my friends even glance at it.  I always start the evening giving a run down of the rules.

      Got my 3 Allies and 3 Axis flags ordered today.  Had to order from ebay and another site.  Didn’t pay much shipping though.  Only about $35 for all of them.  Room definitely won’t be done anytime soon but I plan on have a game in about 2 weeks while I’m on vacation.  Just trying to doctor it up a enough so it doesn’t look plain.  Figured flags would make the biggest impact quickly for my dollar.  Your table must be huge to house your map and still have room around the edges.  I will definitely have to make a custom top to put over my table.

    • RE: DK's Hybrid Axis and Allies Map and Rules

      Looking at your map I only see the three convoy raiding zone in the Atlantic.  I do not see any anything in the pacific or convoy zones against the Axis.  Is this correct? or did the file leave omit them.  I have not played a game of Europe or Pacific yet even though I owned them from day one so I may not fully understand the convoy zones.  I just thought you were able to cause IPC loss against the axis in Global40.

      I’m going to order some artillery units for China (Burma Road).  Any suggestions on where to get them.  I see HBG sells by color but not sure which color is closest.

      Sorry for the confusion.  Yes I was talking about real flags.  I do appreciate the responses and the decal flags are nice for ideas.  I am also in the process of creating miniature flags for my board instead of using roundels.
