      Yeah.  The fighters can scramble to defend, but without a destroyer present they can’t target the sub.

      I’ve been using it for my global games without any problems since Alpha +2, but I’d like to have everybody’s feedback before I declare it “glitch free”.  :-)

      It could facilitate blind games, which are loads of fun but currently very tedious and time-consuming.  (I’ve played one on AAR)

      blind games=basically you can’t see the units in enemy territory, except perhaps in the ones adjacent to your own.  for now it takes 2 separate boards and one non-player person willing to be the moderator to keep the boards synced.

      @Pelanderfunk:

      This may have been addressed before, but my opponent and I are thinking about adding defensive retreats as an option.

      Basically as a defender, you would have the option to retreat your army to an adjacent controlled territory at the beginning of each combat roll. If you choose to retreat, the attacker would still get an extra roll to inflict some damage on the routing forces.

      Obviously this means some heavy adjustments to strategy. You don’t need to be as careful with your advancing armies as long as there’s enough  cannon fodder to cover the attacker’s first roll. It becomes a lot harder to destroy large stacks, unless you have them surrounded.

      My question to you guys: do you think this rule adjustment favors one side more than the other?

      In our house rules games we allow the defenders to retreat if they have a commander unit only after one full round of combat. FMG will have commander units with their new sculpts. I do not think they will favor one side over the other. Of course that depends a lot on what powers the commander has. Without commander units I would say no it will make the game longer.

      @Sime:

      That?s a pretty interesting strategy for that specific scenario.

      Do you think he was aware that Germany could reach his capital before you sent the Italians to America?  In your opinion, was he buying all the talk of you sending the Germans to Egypt?

      I think if I was in your position I would have sent the Italians to Africa instead of attacking America, keeping up the illusion that Axis is heading south.  If he didn?t perceive the German threat, he would be sending his units to intercept the Japanese and hopefully leaving his capital lightly defended.

      It?s a bit riskier this way because if he sees the threat and stocks his capital, the Italian units are no longer in position to invade America and divert attention away from the Japanese, but it?s just another way of looking at the situation.

      Anyway, great write-up, Pelanderfunk. I enjoyed reading it.

      No, he definitely saw it coming. Truthfully, the Italians were a bit of a waste in the US – all they really did was give the US a few more targets. On the other hand, maybe the resources he wasted on those targets could have won the war if he used them differently.

      My opponent tends to let his emotions leak into his strategy. I knew that if I sent even a tiny Italian fleet over, he would destroy it the first chance he got, even at the expense of a more benefitial move.

      I am all for sinking the UK fleet on G1 and build the Aircraft Carrier.  Then mostly I threaten to sink the rebuilt Royal Navy and Americans.  My Germany never wants to spend another dollar in the Atlantic.

      Sometimes them darned Brits do something silly and entice me into taking London even though we would rather kill Russians and capture Russian territories.

      Maybe not killing the British Battleships makes it more likely England will do something silly like build tanks in South Africa UK1.  I would rather not deal with all them UK boats that quickly.

      @Bruda_Iz:

      How about a similar rule but for the allies in Italy…. something like the minute Rome is taken all Italy kicks out Musilini and becomes and Allie?  LOL

      Haha, that’s not a bad idea, actually – it adds some balance to the Vichy rules. You could make it that if Rome is captured, Italy is restored as an Allied country, played by whoever took their capitol.

      @Pelanderfunk:

      The Soviets get a 5 IPC bonus for being at war. In all of the global games I’ve played so far, the Soviet player has simply “declared war” on Japan on R1, regardless of whether or not they had plans to attack.

      Is there any reason that the Soviets wouldn’t declare war on Japan as soon as they can? Is there any reason that being “at war” is a requirement of this NO if the Soviets can always be at war?

      This has been addressed in the FAQ thread.  The Soviets have to be at war with either Germany or Italy in order to receive the 5 IPC bonus.  Of course, it would have been nice for the rulebook to say this directly.

      @Pelanderfunk:

      I don’t know what the official name is, but I looked around the internet for a long time before I broke down and made my own.  You can get “croupier sticks”, which are what the croupier uses to collect the dice in craps, but it doesn’t really have that “war room” feel to it.

      I just bought some wooden dowels and balsa strips from a craft store, then I cut the strips into rectangles and wood-glued them to the ends of the dowels.

      Yeah I was thinking of doing the same.

      IMO Germany has to do some things early game to have any chance at all.
      1. Take out France turn 1(or have Italy finish it off)
      1. Kill the UK fleet turn 1 and build transports to get ready for SeaLion
      2. Take London or failing that cripple the UK(with subs sitting off their coast) to the point that it becomes pretty useless.
      3. Have a large enough fleet to force Amercia to spend time building esort fleets instead of just rushing transports into Africa or Europe.
      4. Build a stack of tanks for the attack into Russia. Because if Germany doesn’t attack Russia will.

      The fighters can scramble.  However, since there is no defending destroyer, they can’t hit the sub.  As a result, the transport will be sunk anyway.

      You can only build them on your own territories (that you have controlled since the beginning of your turn).

      Yea I made a banking program for my ti-83 graphing calc. All I need to do is enter the numbers for spent Ipcs and collected ipcs. It will even keep track of the total ipcs spent and recieved. If I had a USB to calc cable I would post here but I don’t.
