The US may lose that, but getting 100 IPC starting turn 4 quickly puts things in their favor IMO. I feel like Japan has to take care of China/UKP first before it can get involved in the USA.

Pro Allied Neutralsposted in Global War
Another question that we’re not sure on…
So we do ‘Dick’ moves where, we move a Destroyer into a Sea Zone containing enemy ships before we’re at war. So on that players turn, they have to engage the single ship and are unable to move their ships elsewhere. This is legal, correct? (Friendly neighboring land zone/island makes the move possible).
Also - the Med. Can the UKE on Turn 1 take Greek Islands/Greece? Or even Yugoslavia? using transport + inf
Also - France has fallen on Germany 1 - does that automatically make Italy at war with the Allies on their first turn? Or can the Italians choose not to go to war with the UK until later, though the UK can DOW them on UK Turn 2?

Optional Rules Questionposted in Global War
Specifically the Optional Airbase Rule.
This part:
Air base cost is 3 per unit and no longer have a movement mod of a +1.
Does this mean Airbases now cost 3-IPC per airbase?

Strategy?posted in Global War
Global War 1939 - I know this isn’t as popular as the Axis/Allies game etc but me and my friends prefer this to the Axis&Allies Global 1939 Map/Scenario.
Of course, we haven’t had much chance to play it out, but where as A/A seems to be over within 3 - 4 turns, GW 1939 has a 10 - 15 turn goal before a winner can be declared.
So, given that this isn’t a very active part of this forum, I can hopefully stir up some discussion! Specifically, strategy!
GERMANY - The Blitzkrieg on Turn 1 is very important. You must take Paris on Phase 2 otherwise Germany is toast. The UK Europe player could move all of their fighters to Paris, and all remaining French Troops in France could also move to Paris, making it a Fortress-Paris that would be very hard and costly for the German Player to take! This has now become a standard move when we play. The build-order often varies from player to player - having a dozen subs remaining is quite scary, but bad rolls on Neutral Ships can turn the tide in favor of the UK navy at that stage. There is still debate on the order/method of taking Denmark and Norway during Germanys turn - one or two players choose to do so on Germany T2. Given the Blitzkrieg ability, the Axis Minors are all activated by Germany and all German Units on the Polish Borders attack Western Poland on Phase 1, Warsaw on Phase 2 (so the forces aren’t split). I am devising a new method for the Naval Attacks though, as leaving the French Fleet completely intact can be costly in the long run.
USA - Now, this is really the one I want to hear thoughts on. With a starting IC of 20, I have previously spent it on 6-research dice, which I can name later, to give the edge to the USA once they go to war with Japan. However, a friend of mine suggested building a Minor Industry on USA Turn 1 in the Phillipines. I thought there was a rule against it but have not be able to locate one. Having a Minor Industry there is a major threat to the Japanese and potentially forces an earlier DOW on USA by Japan. Building Inf, Aircraft, and Ships directly to the Phillipines makes it a lot harder to take. Your thoughts on this? To me, it seems like Minor Industry in the Phillipines = End of Japan

RE: Turn Order Debate/Confusion.posted in Global War
So you play it that the French Foreign Legion rolls attacks with the UKEurope side…IE, both sides move troops into Tunisia to attack the Italians, rolling combat at the same time (not individually). And you do the same with ANZAC in the Pacific? IE Naval Engagements, attacking the Japanese at the same time?

Turn Order Debate/Confusion.posted in Global War
A little confusion and debate on Turn Order.
The Situation: Paris is alive after (crazy) German Strategy.
France is controlled by the UK player.
Do they attack as the same time as the UK player? IE: French + UK Europe Fleets ATTACK the German Navy at the same time?Or do they have to do it separately? I would assume the same role applies to the French Foreign Legion in North Africa being able to combine attacks with the British?
What about Anzac? Or do they go on their own turn?
We play that the Minor Axis attack WITH Germany, so would that apply to #4 as well? From the Rules:
1. Germany, Minor Axis, Vichy France
2. Japan
3. Russia & Communist China
4. U.K./Commonwealth, Dutch, France, Free French
5. U.S. and Nationalist China
6. Italy -
RE: Come on let gametableonline play the A&A games!!!posted in Software
Tabletop Simulator has a lot of different boardgames and variants on it these days. You can virtually recreate any boardgame on it. So it has the boardgame feel of rolling dice and moving physical models around, though in congested areas like Europe this can get a bit tricky and you often select more than what you’re looking for.

No Subs in the Atlanticposted in Global War
Me and my friends are debating what the ‘Atlantic’ entails in this game, for the UK National Objective.
The Objective says ‘No Subs in the Atlantic, excluding SZ’s’ and then lists three sea zones that are on the pacific side of South America.
Our question is - the Baltic Sea. IE. The Sea Zones east of Denmark, surrounded by Scandinavia and Germany. Are they considered the Atlantic?

@Charles:
Or does Britain have to retreat or face the sub getting the defenseless carrier?
This.
Ignoring subs is in the movement phase only, not in the conduct combat phase. This battle is unwinnable because you have nothing that can hit the submarine. You could sink the other Axis ships as you said, but then you must retreat the carrier or lose it senselesslyIf the British had a Cruiser remaining, though, they would be able to attack the sub correct? Unless the sub chose to submerge and avoid combat?

RE: Losing France Capitol on First Turn.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
My first time playing Germany, I took France on Germany 1 but did not attack Normandy until Germany 2. Less losses this way (complete overkill on both attacks vs France) and I let Italy take Southern France. That bonus income to Germany for taking France Capital (worth) gives you more building options on Germany 2.

First Moves…posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have started two games of about 5 players each now in G40. There are some players who have some experience but most players, like me, have none. From this forum and YG’s videos, I feel like I have a pretty basic understanding of ‘the first moves’ countries are ‘supposed’ to make. But how did this come to be? Germany attacking UK navy, UK doing the Taranto raid, Japan hitting the money islands, etc.
Couldn’t there, theoretically, be better opening moves? The German Subs/Airforce, on bad rolls, could take a beating while attempting to destroy the British Navy. Does anyone even do Sea-Lion?
In the games I am playing right now, the UK player seems to like doing a naval invasion of Libya on Turn 1, with aid from Malta/Gibraltar fighters, while using their Med. Navy to attack the Italian Destroyer/Transport. I thought this was an interesting and powerful move - but Italy managed to destroy the landing force (allowing the French to move in on their turn).
However, the Italian player countered using its entire navy + airforce to destroy the British Navy in the Med with no loses (some great rolling by Italian player). The french fleet + british cruiser from Gibraltar are still in play, but the Brits are now without their Carrier. They attacked Egypt and brought it down to a Fighter, a Tank, and Inf. Italians were able to land 3 Inf + Arty to Tobruk on their NC Move phase, so with their airforce should be able to wipe out all forces in Egypt on T2. The UK Player is unaware of the Taranto Raid move (and scrambled fighters during G1 naval battles).
So - how did the ‘standard’ openings become standard? Or do you not use them at all and do your own thing, depending on which country you play as?

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
More of a personal question this time…
Does it make any sense for UK/ANZAC to DOW Japan on UK 1? I assume they’re allowed to it, but that prevents the US from entering the war (physically) until US 4. And the UK doesn’t have much of an attack on UK 1 so it seems rather silly (yet my friend did this for some reason).

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
This should hopefully be my last round of questions. Played a few turns in a few different games over the weekend so have a few final questions.
1. Can attacking aircraft land in a newly conquered territory/the territory they are attacking if it is conquered?
2. If the last round of combat ends with both defender and attacker dead - IE no units left - I assume the defender retains control of the territory?
3. In the case of Germany attacking Yugoslavia from Southern Germany, they can ‘retreat’ all units into (say) Romania if one unit from Romania attacks. If you get extremely lucky with your dice roll and wipe out all the defenders, can you still retreat (and leave Yugoslavia as a pro-allies neutral with no army) or do you have to move all attacking armies into the province? IE can you leave the province empty so that Italy can move in and take control (and retreat your armies to Romania) or do you have to occupy it with all forces?
4. Neutrals - I am still a little confused on neutrals.
IF Germany moves from Norway into Finland, no combat takes place as Finland is pro-axis, so the Finnish troops turn into German troops, correct?
CAN Russia, while not at war, move into Pro-Allies Neutrals (like Persia)? Or do they have to wait until they are at war to do so?
NEUTRAL-neutrals, like Sweden, cause all the other neutral-neutrals to turn pro-allies (if the Axis attack) or pro-axis (if the Allies attack). The Axis (or Allies, depending on the case) can then just move troops into those neutral-neutrals to gain their units, correct?

TS: A&A G40 2nd Ed.posted in Player Locator
I don’t know if anyone here has STEAM, but if you do, and you have Tabletop Simulator, there are a bunch of Axis&Allies games in the workshop. The most complete looking one is the G40 one - I would love to be able to play online with some one there.

Slowing Down AI?posted in TripleA Support
Hey - just got the software and started a game. As some one new to A&A, it would be great if I could see the AI moves. I noticed that they go almost too fast to notice what the AI is even doing. Is there a way to slow down the AI turns or ‘review them’ once its your turn, so you can see what moves/attacks the AI carried out?

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
My understanding is that if your invasion fleet has to engage in naval combat first, before it can offload troops, then the land-combat phase does not get the benefit of the shore-bombardment. Technically the transport would be offloading while the Cruisers, etc engage in combat with enemy naval forces.

No rule book, but am looking at ones online. Not quite sure where I found that rule about Japans first turn offensive.
Rules seem simple on paper, but when put them into effect…
For instance, as Japan, if I attack Amur from the land but also from an Amphibious Assault, do the shore bombardment rules take affect if I have the correct ships in position? If they hit, like the Sub Surprise Attack, the defenders hit get immediately eliminated, and then the ground combat, combing both land-attacking and amphib-troops would commence?

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Now that I am home and looking at the board, I have another question.
Gibraltar straddles two sea zones (91 and 92). It is defended by a fighter. If the Italians Amphib- Assault it, since there is no airbase, the fighter can not Scramble, correct? It would go to landcombat, Inf + Art (Italians) vs 1 UK Fighter, plus any shore bombardment by Italian ships.
The Seaport of Gibraltar seems to be in Sea Zone 91. Is there one in #92 as well, given how small Gibraltar is? Or is it like Cairo, extending the Naval Base into both #98 and #81.
Since there is no airbase in Malta, can the UK fighter in Malta scramble? Or does there need to be a physical airbase in order to do so?
Also, can submarines move through a hostile Strait like Denmark or Gibraltar?

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Ah okay - I was reading the Europe and Pacific rules to get Global rules (I believe each rulebook - the PDF online ones - has a section at the end called 'Additional Rules for Global). I don’t think it says to ignore any rules, like the J1 attack with its enemies defending only on 1’s. So, for all intents and purposes in Global, all attack/defense is normal.
I read peoples strategies or posts and they mention how ‘easy’ it is to destroy the Russian Troops on Turn 1 of Japan (especially if they move them all into same province). With the ‘defender defends on a ‘one’ during Japans first turn’ I can understand that…otherwise it looks like Japan would be outnumbered by the Russian Defenders - am I missing something here?
