    • Activating Minors

‘Activation’ is done on the Combat Moves phase…in this example, I am talking about the UK moving units into Yugoslavia / / Greece.

I just want to make sure, but you can not move activated units until the next turn, correct?

IE. Combat Moves UK moves into Greece. Non Combat phase, you are not allowed to move the Greek Units. The same would also apply to Germany Activating Finland, correct?

    • RE: Quickie on SBR

So the AA Gun gets multiple shots?

1 - After the Fighters get their shots in, the AA Fires at each aircraft.
2 - AA Gun shoots at whichever planes target it?

    • Quickie on SBR

Just a quickie on SBR, since the rules aren’t 100% clear on it.

Lets say there is an SBR attack on Berlin.

Berlin has an AA Gun, a Major Factory, an Airfield, and 5 Fighters.

3 Fights are scrambled against the SBR. 4 Bombers are aiming for the Major Factory.

Does the AA Gun take part - IE gets a shot at each Bomber - or only after the Intercept IF the AA Gun is also being targeted?

    • Transport Movement

Is it legal, in NCM, to move a Mech 2 Territories to get on a Transport, and then disembark?

Infantry obviously only move 1, so have to be bordered a Transport to embark/disembark during NCM so I am wondering if Mech/Armor, with their 2 moves, can use it to get on the transport and then be transported?

    • RE: Strict Neutrals

The Version 6* had it as +25, while 7.2 has it at +2….which I assumed was in error, based on all the other grammatical errors I’ve noticed.

My understanding was that the Japanese sneak attack was a +35 income + 3 battles where the defender does not roll for the first round (and US ships at a -2 for each round of combat after the first)…not a 2-phase thing like the German Blitzkrieg on T-1.

    • RE: Strict Neutrals

I looked at previous versions of the rules to come up with the +25, which makes much more sense than +2…if Australia and NZ are being invaded, the US would want to become more involved.

    • RE: Strict Neutrals

I’m playing the Global War 1939 Edition, so the 1936 Edition Rules don’t apply.

    • RE: Strict Neutrals

Thats what I thought but is not mentioned at all in the rulebook.

I use the 7.2 Rulebook from the HBG website and find it to be severely lacking. Lots of errors in it (+2 to USA when Japan attacks Australia/NZ Homeland, when it should say +25 USA, among other errors) and its not nearly descriptive enough with other rules (like the strict neutrals) leaving them open to interpretation.

    • Strict Neutrals

Another one…as there doesn’t seem to be any specific rules in the Rulebook.

      1. Is only the USA restricted in where it can move Naval Ships (original territories/sea zones) while not at war, or does this apply too all countries that are not at war? (Russia, UKE in the MED)
      2. Is the UK/Commonwealth allowed to attack Strict Neutrals (IE. Saudi Arabia, South America, Portugal/Belgium Territories in Africa) at all or are they allowed to? It seems like a lot of free, easy money for the UK while the Axis doing the same get punished (liberating Argentina etc).

    • RE: Suicide Attack or Legal?

Not in this instance. This is J3 turn.

This: Aircraft must save enough movement points to return to a Friendly land zone or carrier during non-combat movement.

It is being interpreted that during combat, one of the Naval Aircraft will die, which then frees up a spot on the aircraft for the 5th, land based aircraft, to land on it…

My counter is that if no aircraft are lost, then the 5th aircraft would have no where to land, thus making it a suicide (and not a stranded aircraft).

    • RE: Suicide Attack or Legal?

Thats what the debate was about.

The player making the move is assuming that he will lose one of the 5 planes in the attack, which allows the land-based aircraft to land.

I was making the opposite argument - if none of the planes die, then only 4 of the 5 can land, which makes it a suicide attack and thus not legal.

I can’t seem to find an answer on the HBG site - I have the rulebook et al, and its not very clear.

The sea zone in question can only have the 2 Carriers that launched the Naval Fighters/Bombers in it at the end of the turn. There is no land mass in or next to the sea zone. So from my understanding, the land based aircraft uses 4 of its 5 movements to join the battle. The 5th movement ends it in a sea zone with no friendly carrier, so it would be an illegal move. The 4 Naval Aircraft use 3 of their 5, but the remaining 2 ends them in the sea if the carriers do not come along. Since Carriers are limited to 2 aircraft each, then only 4 of the 5 aircraft have a safe place to land so the 5th (landbased) aircraft can not partake.

That is my understanding but we were split on this.

    • Suicide Attack or Legal?

2 aircraft carrier + 4 naval planes attack a sea zone at max range.

A fighter from an Air Base can not return to land, so can it take part in the combat and land on an Aircraft carrier if one of the Naval Planes is destroyed? Or not, because at beginning of move it technically has no where to land. We are divided on this being legal or not.

    • RE: GW 1939: Finland

I get the impression the Axis-Minors are more cannon-fodder or Partisan-prevention (with the exception of the Romanian tank) then an attacking force.

    • RE: GW 1939: Finland

You know, I think I did not read the rules properly, and assumed that the Axis Minors needed Factories to begin producing units. This changes everything  :-o

I will see how my group responds to this tomorrow night when we meet for our Thursday Night game.

    • RE: Steam Simulator

Play by forum looks more like a PBEM game…several hours before the opponent does their move, and looks to typically be 1 v 1.

On Steam, I get to make new friends…I get to talk to them over the 2 - 4 hour session we play the game. We often try and get 4 - 5 for a game as well. We can discuss strategies or moves players made during the week before our next session. And the visuals are much nicer as well, when we are playing. Its also easy to experiment with scenarios, or ‘delete’ the pacific/atlantic side to show players one theatre over the other.

I also mostly play the Global War 1939 game as well, which I believe is not on TripleA - so there is that ^-^

    • RE: GW 1939: Finland

My understanding is that  Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria can all have Minor Factories built on them - either by the Germans or once they have collected enough. But for each of them, their territory is worth at least 2, which meets the requirement.

So Germany is allowed to build a factory in Finland (or Finland can build it once it has enough income?).

    • GW 1939: Finland

So Finland collects 3 Income and also gives 3 Income to Germany once Germany activates it.

However, you are only allowed to build Industrial Factories on areas that meet the requirement.

All of Finland has a Value of 1. So Finland cannot produce a Factory, thus stockpiling its money every turn (smart USSR would let it build it a bit before taking Helsinki).

So why does Finland collect an income if it cannot spend it? To aid USSR once Helsinki is captured?

Correct me if I am wrong or am missing something!

    • RE: Steam Simulator

I get to play with other people - usually on voice chat with them via Discord. Discuss strategies and also teach new players how to play (though I am no expert) which exposes more people to the game. Plus the visuals are much better.

    • RE: Steam Simulator

I can give the best answer, as I helped Fritz and Schroeder set that up (well, the layout at least).

So, its a boardgame simulator (Tabletop Simulator). The ‘game’ is saved at the start of Germany Turn 1. So you don’t need to spend 2 hours setting up the board.

The Dice Towers and ‘counters’ are were you do all your rolls, using the ‘counters’ to keep track of how many hits you’ve made. Pretty simple to use. Dice are colored red for attacker, blue for defender, along with their corresponding towers for the rolling.

Units are in ‘infinite’ bags, so you just drag them out as you need them, or do the Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V on a unit to duplicate it on the board.

      Gray chips = 1
      Green = 3
      Red = 5

You can also shrink and enlarge the unit models at will, so easier to fit them in Europe when things start to get crowded.

The Host sets the options, so you don’t have to worry about some troll flipping the table (which is locked in place so it can’t be moved). Very rarely have I seen units knocked over and its usually when dropping them down on the combat table.

Easy to save after each session and everyone can save the game - so you can look over the board on your free time before playing again.

Income Tracker Chips for each country are how you keep track of income, along with using the notepad to write down how much each country has.

Feel free to add me on Steam (same name) and I can either broadcast it to show you, or go over in better detail and answer questions.

For some one like me who lives in area where boardgame clubs don’t exist, its the only method I have of playing boardgames like this.
