Djensen where are you?
Djensen,
It has been about a week since your last preview. I haven’t seen you responding to any post either. Can we expect another preview? I for one would still like to see the AAE40 NOs. Thanks.

RE: UK1 @ SZ 95 scenario question
While all this Sealion discussion is fun to think about…IMHO I don’t think Sealion (G2 or G3) is a real option.
Most of these Sealion strategies go something like this:
1. Germany buys carrier and 2 trns
2. All Germany subs and planes attack U.K. navy
3. Germany army fights without air support in France.
then on G2 buy more trns and navy and attack with all airforce and amphibious on G3.
The result of all this will be the following:
1. Germany loses all its inf and mech and art in France on G12. Germany loses all their subs in Atlantic on G1
3. Germany spends most of its IPCs on navy and invasion force on G1 and G2
4. Germany loses all their airforce on G3
maybe you take U.K. and maybe you don’t…it’s about a 50/50, but it doesn’t really matter because the Americans will take either U.K. or Normaday if not both on US5 and the Soviets have been buying stacks of inf, art, and mech while you bought transports. You have absolutely nothing left defending Europe except your G3 and G4 purchases. Game over on turn 5 or 6…and yes the U.K. still sinks the Italtin fleet in SZ 95, which stymies Italian efforts in the Mediterranean. I think a lot of people are greatly over estimating the prowess of Italy and Germany.

RE: UK1 @ SZ 95 scenario question
G3 Sea lion gives you better odds then 50/50 but it will cost you in the fight with the Russians. Im not sure that the Russian will take Berlin by R5 but it will be a hard fight where you will need luck and the Italians.
I was assuming that a G3 Sealion would use 9 transports to carry over 9 inf and 9 tanks, plus 4 ftr and 3 tac and 1 bmb. The U.K. will have a defense of 19 to 22 inf, 2 to 3 tanks, 3 ftrs, and possibly a tac and AA. That gives the U.K. approximately equal firepower to the Germans, which makes the G3 Sealion a huge 50/50 gamble especially when you figure in most of your attack force dies and you’ve bought nothing in G1 or G2 that helps against the Soviets.

RE: UK1 @ SZ 95 scenario question
How many transports are assuming the Germans will have for their G3 Sealion?
-
RE: UK1 @ SZ 95 scenario question
G3 Sealion still does not have “good” odds in my opinion. It’s about a 50/50 and you lose your whole invasion force of ground units and your airforce airforce. On top of that you probably lose your own capital on R5! I still don’t think Sealion on G2 or G3 is a viable option.

RE: UK1 @ SZ 95 scenario question
Lets say the German builds an AC and 2 TRS and kills your entire fleet in the North Atlantic. He now has his entire fleet in SZ 112. How do you plan to use your AC and DD off Gibraltar to stop the German attack? Do you attack the German fleet with everything you have? It has a less then 20 % that you will kill the transports, the German has capital ships and are positioned next to a naval base. That attack is madness. Do you build fleet and place it in 110? The German can go round that fleet and attack the UK from 109 and he is also strong enough to kill your fleet and invade an England that is hardly defended. The only way to defend against a Sea Lion G2 if the German positioned themselfs in this way is to build all inf in England. In this case the German will most likely invade and either start gearing against the Russians or build a shitload of transports so he can invade in G3. If he does not invade you dont want a carrier and a destroyer within three squares from sz 112 as the German fleet does not have much to do but killing it. Im quite sure its of better used killing the Italian main fleet.
Bringing planes from India makes India weaker but not that much. If 2 planes leave and India gets the extra inf from west india i do not think it will do that much of a diffrence. Those two planes can make a huge contribution in Africa.
If the Germans build a AC and 2 TRNs in SZ 112 then I build 9 inf in UK and transport another inf and tank from Canada over to UK, plus the 2 inf and 3 ftrs that are already there. Considering I have AA that will shoot down 1 maybe even 2 German aircraft…I hope the Germans try a G2 Sealion. I could also land the TAC in U.K. for extra security. I don’t believe a G2 Sealion is viable against a competent UK player.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
What exactly are the political situation between russia and japan. Who can declare war and when?
Each can declare war with the other at any time.
krieg does this mean the ussr can attack japan before turn 4?
1. USSR and Japan start off not at war.
2. They may declare war on each other on any round they choose.
3. Their war doesn’t affect anyone’s else neutrality.

RE: UK India and NOs
No there are different NOs for the Global game.

UK India and NOs
From what I understand the U.K. has to split its income between U.K. London and U.K. India. Assuming the list that Taiki posted from memory is accurate then there does not appear to be any U.K. India specific NOs. My question is this: Can the U.K. split its NO bonus money however it wants to? Can they give it all to India? I would imagine that the ANZAC/Canada NO will be intact for several rounds, so India could be stronger in Global than they are in Pacific.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
I feel by the posts and the information that was released about aae40 and aap40 that aag40 may be the best game ever.
One question, the italian fleet is in this game more powerful than the british fleet, but was not all the way around in 1940?
I had the idea that the british fleet was by far the mos powerful.
U.K vs. Italy
6 destroyers 1 destroyer
5 cruisers 2 cruisers
5 transports 2 transports
3 battleships 1 battleships
1 AC w/ tac bomber 0 AC…granted most of the U.K. fleet will be sunk on G1, but I also bet about 1/2 the Italian fleet will be sunk on UK1. Brits are definitely more scattered with diverse objectives, while the Italians are concentrated with a singular objective.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
I noticed that a lot of the pics posted today appear to be of the opening setup. I also noticed the U.K. carrier has two fighters instead of 1 tactical bomber. So…
1. Are these pics not the opening setup?
2. Did y’all setup wrong?
3. Is the global setup different from Europe setup?
4. Are there misprints on the setup cards like in AAP1940?
Thanks for the previews and pics!!!

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
Emperor_Taiki,
I’d would be extremely interested to know the political situation between USSR and Japan in the global game.
1.Do they start at war?
2.Can they declare war whenever, or are their turn limitations?
3.Does a Russo-Japanese war affect anyone else’s neutrality?
4.Does a Japanese declaration of war on U.K. and U.S.A. automatically bring Germany into the conflict?
Thanks again for all the info thus far!!!

Thanks for all the info!!! Does soon mean tonight?

RE: True Neutrals question
The pro-allies offer 14 infantry and the pro axis offer 11. I wouldn’t assume they will all be occupied every game. I would think Iraq is not a given for the Axis, and the Allies probably won’t make it to Greece or Yugoslavia. (although the axis will probably invade them anyway.)

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
Upon initially reading the first opening question I would have agreed word for word with SAS’s first response, but after a little consideration I’m not so sure anymore. If you remember in AAP1940 Mongolia is a strict neutral and it has 6 differently named territories. I would assume that if I attack Mongolia, then all of Mongolia would be activated against me, so by that logic if Crete is attacked or occupied it would activate Greece too. That’s my opinion. As for colonial empires like Portugal and Mozambique I’m not sure, but probably not.
