    • RE: Chuck Norris

      For all you Chuck fans. :-D

      http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/

      Some of the facts are pretty good. I see a few that are already listed above.

      A couple of my favorites:

      • The original draft of The Lord of the Rings featured Chuck Norris instead of Frodo Baggins. It was only 5 pages long, as Chuck roundhouse-kicked Sauron’s ass halfway through the first chapter.
      • Chuck Norris ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one.
      • When Chuck Norris says “More cowbell”, he MEANS it.
      • Chuck Norris is the only person who can simultaneously hold and fire FIVE Uzis: One in each hand, one in each foot – and the 5th one he roundhouse-kicks into the air, so that it sprays bullets.

      Too many other to list here, check out the link.

    • RE: Allies lose every game.

      I have played as Russia several times in the 41 set-up with full players on the board version with NOs and have found it difficult but not impossible to win as the Allies. I did things a little differently: For starters I bought mostly all men and a few tanks, no planes or anything else until several turns latter. It is a bit boring of a game as you try to hang on until help finally arrives. As Russia you MUST keep taken back what Germany takes away so as to keep a buffer zone between Moscow and Germany. Kareila is usually a loss until UK comes to help. UK should strike at Findland and Poland (if possible) or Baltic’s if not. That cuts Germany off to the north and Russia can concentrate on the south. Try to keep at Germany and Italy at bay for as long as possible. UK should build a factory in South Africa on T1 and build tanks there every turn and planned the rest for the Europe attacks. This helps cut off the access to Russia through Jordan. I can seem daunting at times and you feel like giving up but I hung in there and turned it around before Russia fell. Once you stop the advance you got it made. Also always attack Germany’s offensive pieces first if they are vulnerable. Make sure you always protect your tanks and use them only when safe, same goes for the planes (if you manage to get some). You change your buys as the game allows and as you progress. 8-)

      @Adlertag:

      Did Germany actually have an Aircraft Carrier Design they planned on building?

      Or is this just a pie in the sky pic from an artist’s concept?

      I do not believe Germany ever had a chance to actually build an AC, that could have changed their odds, good thing for the Allies they never acted on it. :-)

      @Imperious:

      Thank you very much!

      Please post a picture of your map with the pieces set up next time you play. AA42 is also done and posted ( if your into that game)

      You are very welcome!

      I just picked up that new 42 and we are gonna try it next weekend, so I will check out that map of yours as well.

      Once I get thie AA50 map printed, laminated, and set-up, I will take a picture and post it so you can see.

      Your new picture confused me at first, because I was used to your soldier guy.

      Thanks again. 8-)

    • RE: IL's Big Map

      Hi IL,

      I just wanted to let you know I think that is one sweeeet map you made. :-D

      I downloaded both chart and no chart versions and it came up on my Adobe Professional Program with a warning that it may not display correctly, but everything looks good to me. So I printed on our printer at work here on a 11 X 17 ledger size in full color to see and wow it looks good. I assumed this is only for AA50.

      There is a place in Calgary here that prints up to 60" wide paper X as long as you want and they laminate as well. I have a couple of home made maps I done over the years (Pacific and Europe - before they existed, 4’ X 3’) and they laminated all of them for me, so they should make this map look fantastic. It is way better then the three pieces you place together that always move around, and the laminate also protects from drunk player spills, which is great as it can happen.

      You really do spend a lot of time working on this stuff for everyone’s elses pleasure.  :-)

      If I could leave positive feedback for you I would, but not enough posts yet, so someone else please do it for me as IL deserves the praise. 8-)

      @Imperious:

      I would love to see a video of a chimps playing AA…each wearing the various helmets or caps of each nation in full regalia.

      Imagine a chimp japanese admiral or Tojo looking fellow?

      I wish somebody here had access to chimps ( other than WOTC).

      oh well…

      I think you are on to something.  :-D
      Remember those Gremlin movies? I could just imagine chimps acting like that getting out of control and turning the game into a live action version where they start blowing each other up. :evil:
      You should write and direct it and then get the staff from WOTC to star in it. :lol: :lol:

      I own the Pacific, Europe, D-Day, AA50, AA Classic, and will be purchasing the new AAR.
      We tend to play AA50 the most right now as it has more to offer and is still new to us.
      I did not see AA50 on there as a choice to vote on. That one appears to be missing.

      The Big E all the way for the US. The US would have been in trouble had she not survived.

      For Germany - The Bismark was quite a ship and was ahead of its time. Only by a one in a million fluke shot that jammed the rudder where the Brits able to take advantage. I watched a documentary on it and it had anti torpedo capabilitites that where state of the art, very quick speed and major armaments. The only two remaining surviving German sailors admitted that they actually sunk their own ship so it would not fall into the enemies hands.

      @gamerman01:

      I pretty much agree with your conclusions.  That’s why I am starting to prefer the 1942 scenario (I like Allied wins).

      Thank you for the note of agreement.
      I actually kinda of prefer the 42 scenario as well as I like the truer historical feel to it.
      When palying the Allies I like the feeling of being in control and having that winning feeling going on throughout the whole game.
      BUT - I also like playing the Axis as the underdog and feeling like you really have to overcome the odds to kick Allied butt and pullout a victory. 8-)

      Axis and Allies - Star Wars edition!

      Battle of Endor! See an army of 3 ft Teddy Bears armed with sticks and stones defeat an entire corps of crack Imperial Stormtroopers and killer droids for 1 casualty!

      I metioned before that an Axis and Allies post apocalyse would be cool, Star Wars version could be cool if done correctly.  8-)
      I always thought that the Ewoks beating the Stormtroopers in EP3 was ridiculous, but it is good for a laugh.
      EP3 is still a good movie because of the beginning at Jaba’s palace, and because of the final show down between Luke and Vader (and the Emperor) at the end. :-)

      <sigh>Wives - so tempting because they’re always there and you know their schedule.  So close but so far away.</sigh>

      I have tried to get my wife interested, but no way. It is strange because she actually enjoys Risk and she even plays Ultimatum (for those who know which game that is) which has boats, men, cards, and laser space stations. She always makes Ultimatum a real tough game as she knows all my tricks and strategies and likes to stop me from winning, as I win the most.  :lol:
      She would be a good Axis and Allies player if she would only try it. Same goes for my buddies wife, he and I love AA and the wifes sit there and watch for a bit but never want to play. His wife loves board games, she is fanatic, especially Settlers of Catan, but AA scares her, just like my wife, they think it is to complex, when really it isn’t.
      AA is the coolest game ever made. 8-)

    • RE: Russian defense against a Combined German and Italian Offensive

      I have played Russia a couple of times in 41 version with NOs and it is a difficult task keeping the Axis at bay. The trick I used was to buy all men for the first while and did not expose my attack pieces so as to always have a counter attack. Keep a “buffer zone” between German troops and the bulk of your men. Leave one man on the “buffer” coutries. If Germany bombs Karelia do not repair it, save your money and purchase on Cacauscus and Russia. Always have a counter attack force ready to retake key countries. If Karelia falls do not worry about it, as Britain should be able to help you there as Russia concentrates on keeping Cacauscus and not loosing Russia.
      I also bought an IC on India and South Africa with Britain on turn one and purchased to capacity there every turn to help Russia. In my game Italy took all the Med and had all their NOs right away, making 27 IPC on turn 3. But I did manage to hold out and slowly started to get the upper hand, but it was a long comeback, and eventually the Allies did win. :-)

      Come on now, everybody loves Jar-Jar! :-D
      Remember he proposed to the Senate to give the Supreme Chancelor emergency powers. Palpatine needed his puppet to get the ball rolling. :lol:
      He should have been eaten by the Goober fish in EP1.
      Actually it is funny in EP1 when Obewan is talking to Jar-Jar and he is looking at the top of his head instead of his face. Acting in front of a blue screen can be fun at times.
      The uproar over JJ after EP1 was so huge that GL had to rewrite EP2 and 3 to remove a lot of scenes with him.

      I actually really like Flashman’s idea about Luke become the new Emperor, that woudl be a good twist. :evil:

    • RE: Why is 1942 scenario so unpopular???

      I actually found that the Axis have the advantage in 41 and they can win 75% of the time if they do the right things. The Allies win if they prolong the war so as to slowly eat away at the Axis advance and take back abit at a time. The Axis need only capture the victory cities needed and they have it. It is harder for the Allies as they lose to much right off the start and their money drops rapidly. The Axis should be making all their NO’s by turn 3 and raking in the bucks. Also they can eliminate most of the Allies NO’s in short order.
      The 42 set-up is the exact opposite, the Allies win 75% of the time and they have an easier time capturing the victory cities. The Axis have to make serious strides right away or they are on the slow path to ruin. 8-)

    • RE: Choose your Leader

      I see a lot of good answers for leaders from all ages. :-D

      I am surprised however that none of the American members selected Admiral Chester W. Nimitz as #1 for WW2, because after Pearl Habour, he was appointed Commander in Chief of the Pacific over all Allied navy, air and land units and with his naval and air and land strategies, he led the American people to great victories at the Battle of the Coral Seas, the Battle of Midway and during the Solomon Islands campaign. These three great victories started the downward spiral for the Japanese. Because of these he was appointed Fleet Admiral of the US Navy - the highest rank of the Navy. He then had victories at Marianna Islands, Philippine Seas, Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, etc. The list goes on. He was awarded the Gold Star and singed for the US when Japan formally surrendered on Sept 2, 1945.

      Of course he had help, but to be able to bring together all Allied units and co-ordinate air, land and sea, this was probably the first time it had ever been done on such a scale. And to bring down the beast from the east which had overwhelming units and odds, it is a truly amazing if you think about it.

      For all time I think I will pick Colonel Custer  : :lol:

      Seriously though, Alexander the Great or Nepoloean should be considered for the amount of territory they managed to conquer. Although both were short lived. :-P

    • RE: TripleA still up and running! Many players online.

      Oh well, I guess we never ceased to be monkeys after all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a15KgyXBX24

      Hobbes - Great Chimp video link :lol:

      I have the stable version @TripleA and it works, but could not get the unstabble version to download. It seems like it is pretty good as far as a free program is concerned, there are some bugs, and the AI is a dimwit sometimes, but still good fun. Obviously ment to be played against another person through sourceforge which is a lot better. I think it is a little cheesy for Hasbro to start worrying about this now as it has been around for a while and they are not really involved with AA anymore anyway. I think this all started with GTO as mentioned by Romulus. It is a shame as AA fans are some of the most loyal and they will buy every product (almost) AA comes out with.

      There is obviously a demand for an online PC game version and even a stand alone PC game version of AA because of the quicker game play and less time require to finish a game and lets face it, this is the computer age and boardgames in general are almost on the way out. Personnaly I prefer sitting around the table with a bunch of friends playing a “real” AA game, but that can take all day or sometimes several, but at home after diner on a week night, a PC game makes way more sense. Avalon Hill / WOTC / Atari (or Hasbro) should make their own new PC version and simply blow all the others away and that would solve all their issues as AA fans would flock to the newer better game even if they have had enough of the “Chimps”, just because they love the game.

      I actually have a copy of the original Hasbro PC game and I still play it now and then as it is not that bad. But with the new computer advances, etc, they could come up with one PC game that has ALL AA game versions built-in so you could play any of them anytime at home alone (Pacific, Europe, AA50, AAR, Battle of the Bulge, D-Day, Etc.), and they could improve the AI as to be just like facing an experience veteran human player. That would be the cats meow.

      If they made this happen everyone would quickly forget about all the other versions and this would be the new hot topic. 8-)

    • RE: Pacific Power!!!

      @dinosaur:

      I don’t have a board set up.  Can Japan even reach Melbourne on the first turn?  If he makes a move in that direction, the Commonwealth may be in a position to buy infantry only on Melbourne with all the money they are allowed, and sub stall the northern cape to keep the IJN away for a second turn.

      I would like to see a few trial games, but I’m not going to play IJN with it before I see if it can work with some chance exceeding 40%

      Japan cannot actually reach Melborne (I do not think so anyway) on its first turn, but it can move everything around Australia to be ready for turn 2 and 3. I think the idea with the VP points is a smart one if youc an hold on. The India assault and taking out China seems to be a good way to win with VP or by capture  of India, as I won both ways going that route. Never tried Melbourne though so it would be interesting.

    • RE: Pacific Power!!!

      @Aretaku:

      Against a competent player, Japan will never take Australia….or rather, he might take it, but the US will retake it on his turn, preventing Japanese victory.

      Japan has to overextend too much, and place too many of it’s irreplacable naval assets at risk to American attack, to hope for victory by attacking Australia.

      You are probably right, but what I was thinking is going all out Australia on the first turn and sacrificing what ever is required to capture it and use all your ships to try and block USA from retaken that turn so as to allow Japan to hold until the beginning of his next turn and win. It may take three or four turns but it would have to be quick or it won’t work. I am not sure how it would it would turn out as I have never attempted it, but if it doesn’t work the game is pretty much over at that point for Japan, so it would be all or nothing. If you take the port and airport at New Britain and move all your available troops, planes, etc. from Japan and everywhere else on the non-combat move you are in striking distance of South wales for next turn to go all out. Turn three you hit Melbourne. Not sure if you have enough to do it, I would have to study the board set-up and really think ahead on what the Allies can respond with and simply try it for fun. 8-)
