    • RE: What should i do as italy?

      I have played Italy a couple of times and found that the most important thing you should do is get all your NOs right away, first turn if possible with Germany’s help.

      That means capturing Gibraltor, Trans-Jordan, and Egypt and getting rid of UK ships out of the Med. First round is good to buy a transport or a destroyer to help against subs.

      You should try to build up your fleet a little right away, just to secure it, then start buying tanks and planes as you can afford it.

      Then with your first full pay (including NOs) buy an aircraft carrier to really bug the Allies and help protect your fleet. After that you will only need to buy ships as the game play demands. The aircraft carrier with planes on it (even if they are German) is a great defense against attacks (sea and air) protecting your expensive Italian fleet you don’t want to loose.

      After that combine your tank/plane attack strategy with the Germans and concentrate on Russia. Use Italy to take the first line of Russia defense and on the Germans next turn (before Russia gets to go) use an all out German offensive to capture and hold Moscow itself.

      One game I also bought an aircraft carrier with Germany on the next turn after Italy did and then moved the two fleets together to create the ultimate fleet. Allies fell by game turn 6 in that game.

      In conclusion Italy can actually be the cataclist for an Axis win. 8-)

    • RE: Disapointed

      WOW, there are a some disgruntled customers here. This is the first time I have read this thread.

      I actually have not yet purchased the AAP40 as we still play the AA50 and I already own most of the other prevoius A&A games, so it was not critical yet. I was planning on going to get it soon, but now I am wondering if I should wait a little for the corrected reprint version that usually comes out when ther are “bugs” to fix. Has anyone heard that WOTC plans to fix the issues and re-release?

      On the issue of the map, is there a map link that one can print in full color and laminate?
      This would be better then what is being described here. Just a thought.

      What is the issue with the pieces exactly?

      Thoughts from anyone? :-)

    • RE: Best World War II movie?

      I have seen The Land that Time Forgot, first when I was a kid and I thought it was awesome, then again just recently and I thought it was a good but the “special effects” are so old now it looked a little funny. The story is good one.

      It seems that everyone has picked most of the movies I would have already but here goes my list:

      Midway is a classic.
      Force 10 from Navarone and The Guns of Navarone are also classics.
      TORA TORA
      Enemy at the Gates, especially the beginning sequences when Vasily first gets to Stalingrad, thats some great film work.
      Saving Private Ryan, the beach landing scene is brutally realistic.
      Patton
      Battle of the Buldge
      A Bridge too Far and A bridge Over the River Kwai
      The Longest Day, John Wayne classic and The Sands of Iwo Jima (another John Wayne Classic)
      Memphis Belle
      DasBoot
      Kelly’s Heroes
      The Dirty Dozen
      Where Eagle’s Dare
      The Big Red One
      and can’t forget The Great Escape - Awesome movie.

      These are some of my favorites. As you can tell I like my WW2 movies alot.

    • RE: Inglourious Basterds

      I got it on DVD for Christmas and really like it. It’s quite funny.

      I thought it was one of Pitts better performances, although his Midwest American accent is a little laboured.

      QT is good as always. I recommend it.

      @Brain:

      Realism doesn’t sell tickets.

      You are correct. It was okay for a disaster movie but I won’t buy it for my collection as it is just not that good.

      Merry Christmas to you.

      @Jermofoot:

      So does the world actually end or does John Cusack save the day?

      ! He actually does not “save” the world, no one does, but he does “save” the people on the ship he is on from crashing into Mount Everest and they make thier way to the only remaining land mass left that rose up 1000 feet - Africa. It is a bit much to be believable. :-P

      Which part of the movie did you find unbelievable? :-D

      Besides some of the earth changes that seemed just too much to happen all at once like that, I think the second husband’s pilot skills for a person that is just learning, are a little too good, especially when he’s dodging falling buildings, etc and then after that he’s flying an Antropov next.

      It had its moments of entertainment but not sure how “realistic” it really is.

    • RE: 2012 movie is stupid as hell.

      SPOILER ALERT CONTINUED

      I do not beleive they do, other then the whole world shifts and sinks into the waters, all except Africa that somehow rises up 1000 ft from the earth plates shifting?

      It is alot to swallow. All this is caused by the largest sun flare in history resulting in mutated nutrinos which “heat” up the earth’s core and result in “Old Faithful” becoming a super volcano and California falling into the sea, to name a few events.

      I now have seen 2012…

      There are too many “that was totally impossible” scenes were it is just not realistic that I would not know were to begin to describe.

      Of the “End of the World” type movies this one will go down as the cool graphics but weak story king. Others like Deep Impact were a lot better and more entertaining to watch.

      For that matter Noah’s Arc is actually a way better story, one that was “borrowed” for this film.

      Wait to rent, do not buy or pay in my opinion. (Glad I didn’t)

    • RE: Movie suggestions?

      Speaking of comedies, there is an older movie from 2001 that is actually quite hilarious that I would recommend called Tomcats. :-D

      Also one from 1983 Private School. :-D

      These are timeless comedies but not for kids.

    • RE: Movie suggestions?

      Galaxy Quest is a classic. Tim the toolman is funny in this one. Ripley (Sigorney Weaver) is also quite good as the “dumb blonde” role.

      Phantasm series are dark and funny (in a macabre sort of way), I also enjoyed them when I was younger but have not seen in a long time.

      New Star Trek was okay and different. I did enjoy it but found some of the filming a little too cluttered. It had its moments but really does not stack up against the original Kirk and Spock movies or even Pickard for that matter. In my opinion the character interaction was good but not at the level of the others. Also the original Trek films have a lot of humor, this one only a little.

      @Jermofoot:

      Why did Anakin spend more time with Senator Palpatine and Obi Wan than his smoking hot (older) wife?

      That is a very good question. I would say that part is just not in the movie. She did get pregnant after all, so there must have been some time for…
      Maybe he uses the old Jedi mind trick! I think any Jedi would.
      This is the best you have ever had! You are now going to…!

      Well you get the idea! :lol:

      Brain, A couple of great choices. Excalibur is one of my all time favorites.

      Speaking of Monty Python… The Meaning of Life is a riot as well.

      Older Jim Carey movies like The Mask or Pet Detective 1 & 2 are quite hilarious as well.

      @balungaloaf:

      i watched the terrible movie.

      i saw the world destroyed by horrible acting and an awful plot line.

      I was thinking of going to see this one as it does look spectacular on the previews, but with everyone here saying its bad, I think I might wait until it comes out on DVD.

      @dezrtfish:

      I enjoyed starship troopers, but I would still like to see a movie that was more like the book, awesome book, OK movie…

      One example of a great book bad movie is The Relic. Awesome book I would recommend to anyone. The movie changed the booked too much and it actually made it kinda stupid and basically it sucked.

      Lord of the Rings - awesome book; the movie did alter it but I think kept with the majority of the story and actually turned out quite well. One of the better book to movie stories.

      @Brain:

      Sounds like it is as bad as Starship Troopers was which I referred to as Melrose Space.

      Thats hilarious. I never looked at it that way, but it is like a soap opera a little.

      I actually didn’t mind Starship, only because it had some interesting ideas and it does not hurt that Denise Richards is in it either. I won’t say it’s awesome or anything but I have seen worse.

    • RE: Where are you from? Sign our guestmap!

      Here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I have found it somewhat difficult as most friends tend not to have a whole day or two to play away, but we have a steady group that plays now and then. We do the role playing games, the Settlers of Catan game, and of course Axis and Allies.

      There is a hobby store in town called The Sentry Box which specializes in war games and role playing games and they have tournaments advertised every so often. This is a good way to find people that enjoy the game and then you can put together your own group.

      I would suggest you try that and also there may be a member of this site in your area as well that could offer some help or get together.

      @flyboy:

      I would have to go with Chester Nimitz. He led the US fleet and marines to many victories over the course of world war II

      Finally someone agrees with me (if you check my post from the previous page). 8-)

      Nimitz played a very important role for the US.

      I like all your choices except Independence Day. I really did not  like that movie.

      What was it that you did not like? Just curious.

      I know it is a bit fake but Will Smith has some good lines.
      I actually did like the President’s speach about Independence Day and the up coming air battle.

      Not too bad space TV show…Babylon 5
