The basic rule-set is the official ruleset with errata.

The FAQ document you point to is outdated (March 2009).

The latest one is from September 2014. Find it here:

    • RE: Monthly introduce yourself topics

@djensen I like the idea. I remember several threads in the past that had a similar approach. They were “here and there” on the forums and somehow got lost in history.

My idea would be to replace the category “Announcement” with a new category where you will find the “Welcome to new users” and the “Forum rules”, too.

If you look at “Announcement” you will see that even the “recent” topics are either way outdated or sort of misplaced, as they would match to other categories, too.

Maybe we can even merge the “Website/Forum discussion” with the new category.

Then we have a full category dedicated to the forum itself and its members.
That could and would serve as a nice introduction for new members, too.

Should be kept free from noise, of course ;-)

    • RE: This category should be split in two

@djensen I definitely agree with the idea of “Play Axis & Allies Online (description will mention TripleA)”. I have been maintaining the Software section for quite some time now and I would say that 95% is about TripleA, 3% (if ever) is about the totally outdated “Hasbro CD” (actually hardly valid content), and the rest are some lonesome threads about some Apps here and there, actually without further discussion.

In this context I am not convinced that an additional category would add any value here, given that you intend to re-organize and clean up a bit.

So my idea would be to take the not very frequently and sometimes redundantly used “Player Help” category and merge it with your “Software and Tools”-idea. What is in “Player Help” today is most of the time related to software, to tools, to calculation, etc.
I think that would match perfectly.

A merged-this-way category could be named “Player Aids, Tools and Software”, for example.

    • RE: China Errata Clarification

      @Taewakan
      Welcome to the forum :slightly_smiling_face:

You are likely referring to the China placement restriction in the Anniversary Ruleset.
So I have moved your topic from the Website/Forum discussion category to the appropriate forum category, that would be Anniversary. The A&A games have different rulesets including different rules. So it is always good to know about which game we are talking.

This restriction is not a movement restriction. So yes, you can do that during the Chinese Noncombat Movement Phase.

In case you meant something totally different or a different game please indicate that.

I am looking forward to it, too. I am really curious how all the specialities of the ruleset will be implemented into the software.

… and hopefully once the dust has settled on that release we will see AA50, G40, 1914, etc…

Indeed. Especially in G40 there are some more defender’s decisions during the attacker’s turn they would need to find a solution for to allow for asynchronous gaming, for example scramble, intercept, kamikaze … really interesting.

    • RE: Sort and Search (was: Forum improved?)

      @Carolina said in Forum improved???:

So, how do I sort by topic or contributor?

There are several ways. The easiest way is to klick on user’s/author’s/contributor’s name. You see his profile then. At the bottom of the page you see the recent user’s postings.
When watching the profile klick 0_1542615412084_profilemenu.PNG to see some more possibilities of interaction.

Also you might have noticed the “+”-Symbol on the profile-image:
      0_1542615494852_follow.PNG

Klicking on the “+” leads to following the user. In the settings you can set notifications and get an info when the user starts topics for example.

Concerning topics you can use bookmarks, watch topics and/or use the filter buttons.
The “Arrows” button allows you to set your view bundling your interests:0_1542619621836_arrow.PNG

You may want to additionally check out the Tips and Tricks, there you will find how to enter the “Settings” to configure your forum “look and feel” according to your needs.

    • RE: Combat Pressing the Attack?

@Midnight_Reaper said in Combat Pressing the Attack?:

@mike-m said in Combat Pressing the Attack?:

Hi, first time player question, combat, how many “Times” can you “Press The Attack” per turn? Combat and only One Press, or Combat and Press the attack as many times as you wish? Thanks

In Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition, you can press the attack as long as you wish, until either the attackers or the defenders are destroyed or you decide to stop.

      One small addition:
By the rulebook (p. 19) the battle ends “Once all units that can either fire at a valid
      target
or retreat on one or both sides have been destroyed, the combat ends.”

So the battle can end with units on either side remaining, in case they can’t hit each other,
for example an attacking fighter facing a defending submarine (battle ends without retreat option),
or an attacking transport facing a defending transport (here the attacking transport may choose to stay or retreat).

    • RE: Technical Question: AAO and Steam

@djensen Yes it is that relation likely. Years ago I had that Steam client installed with another game. It was about 1GB including the game that had about 400 MB.
Personally, I am a fan of clean computer systems having an eye on what is installed and what is active in the background - so I am not a fan of the Steam client with its background processes and inbound and outbound traffic … but that is of course totally irrelevant for most of the users.

And being a fan of Axis&Allies and AAO, too, I will buy the game and install it (happily) - even together with Steam (reluctantly however).

OK then. I just thought it deserved a more prominent place to attract some more attention of players not necessarily familiar with BM, too, before it gets buried in the history of this monster-topic. :slightly_smiling_face:

      @Viracocha

All I can think about is a time limit between postings for users with low reputation. You should have “enough” reputation by now however.

Also there is a size limitation for uploading files.

Maybe post not too many images in one posting. Use another posting to add further images.

Please try again - and in case of a failure - please post the exact message you get. Also what you want to upload (filetype, size of the file) - and exactly to what target you want to upload (for example to a posting in a forum category, to your profile or to whatever).

      Thank you. And good luck!

@djensen A space is problematic, indeed, as it prevents from posting, too. Though the error message appears to be different. Replacing the space by a hyphen still caused an error message but at least allowed posting in this case. The best solution appears to be to change the username in that case.

I have edited the information in https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/32464/triplea-new-stable-release-working-with-the-forum accordingly.

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

@MillCreek said in AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A:

If you liberate a territory after a capital is captured, you get the IPCs and the use of the factory.

Let’s say in turn X Germany, already owning Karelia, captures Russia. Later in this turn UK successfully attacks Karelia. If the SU had not lost its capital, Karelia would be liberated for the SU.
Now the SU has lost its capital, so UK can use the Karelian factory (next turn) and gain income.

In case SU later takes back its capital or an Ally liberates Russia for the SU, UK has to instantly revert ownership of Karelia to Russia.

      So far so good.

If a capital falls and you still control a territory with a factory(say Russia falls and UK controls Karelia), you don’t get the IPCs or the use of the factory.

This scenario is impossible. UK cannot control Karelia at the moment Russia falls. UK cannot control Karelia as long as Russia is in SU’s hands. As in every case the SU controls its capital its territories not having been captured by the enemy are controlled by SU, too.
So let’s assume there are UK units in a SU owned Karelia. Those UK units do not control Karelia as Karelia is under SU’s control. In case Germany takes Russia then, Karelia remains SU-controlled.

Does this make any kind of reasonable sense? What’s the difference, other than a game technicality?

You can never control a territory of your Ally as long as your Ally controls his capital.
The only way to gain control over an Allied territory is to liberate an Allied territory (from the enemy) while your Ally’s capital is in enemy’s hands.
