    • RE: The new forum has been a lot of work and it's not done yet

@djensen Thank you for all what you are doing for us. :+1:

Myself, I have spent an unusual amount of time on the forum and in front of my PCs before, during and after the migration, in order to identify problems, deal with feedback, provide information, give support, suggesting my ideas as regards content and organization, sorting threads, cleaning-up topics… just to name some activities. (Thank you to my family for their understanding :hearts: )

Now, I don’t even do this as a business, I do it just for fun. As Dave with this site gives me the chance to ideally combine my hobbies: I love strategic boardgames, I am an IT-interested autodidact, I love to moderate discussions and deal with change management. Doing all of this and the feedback I sometimes get from the community is “salary” enough.

Instead, I will be happy to donate another 50 USD for my next 2019 Gold patronage in some weeks.

I don’t expect that everyone takes the same fun out of this site as I do. And I am aware that only a fraction of users even reads the topics in this category including this thread. But in case you read it, and in case you take some fun out of this website and have not donated so far - please consider doing it now!

UHD World War II Global map in Triple A
      Look under the experimental tab.
      I think you need 2.5.22294 to see it, can’t use a .6

To run it under TripleA 2.6.x do as follows:

      Go to
      https://github.com/triplea-maps/uhd_world_war_ii_global

Klick on the green “code” button:
      code1.png

Now - in the window that just opened - click “Download ZIP” to download the zip-container of that map.
      code2.png

Move the downloaded zip-file to the “downloadedMaps” directory of your TripleA installation.

After that start TripleA. The zip-file will be extracted and the map will be available from the “Select Game” dialogue.

      Enjoy!

    • Current TripleA / MARTI / PBF / PBEM / GMail Issues

Currently this community when using TripleA suffers from some serious problems described and discussed here and - more important - on the triplea-game .org forum.

      https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/3124/nodebb-1-17-and-later-breaks-pbf-compatibility

      https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/3061/marti-issues

      https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/3157/google-mail-with-triplea-issues-was-new-play-by-forum-game

Everybody feel free to add your concerns to the above mentioned topics. You don’t reach the developer(s) here but over there.

      Concerning the Play-By-Forum issue:

For quite some time now the issue is that TripleA has been incompatible with the current forum software (NodeBB). The issue will not be resolved until the forum software and the TripleA software will be ‘harmonized’. Unfortunately I do not know whenever this will happen.

As a workaround you will need to manually send the game history and load up manually created savegames to the forum. You can use ‘Play by Email’ instead of ‘Play by Forum’ to start the game and use the dice server. You don’t need to configure the email settings in the ‘Play by EMail’ form.

What does the New version brings?

I hope they publish a “What’s New?” or add the Release Notes anytime soon.

However, there have been hundreds if not thousands of updates in four years since 2.5. TripleA software development is a continuous process.
If you are deeper interested you might want to check out the notes of all the pull requests that resulted in (pre-) releases on Github in the meantime until they publish something more:

    • RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)

      @ussgordoncaptain

By the rulebook (Europe 1940 2ed, page 10):
“Friendly neutrals … … They can be moved into (but
      not through)
as a noncombat move by land units of a
power that is at war (see “Noncombat Move,” page 22).
This moves the territory out of its neutral status at the
end of the Noncombat Move phase”.

      So the answer is “No”.

You’d need to move the mech infantry and the regular infantry at the same time.
The mech infantry can’t “move through”.

      @captain-walker
If users upvote your posting by klicking the heart symbol

      Screenshot 2018-12-03 at 21.10.08.png
      this adds to your “reputation”.

Additionally there appears to be a “reward system” that adds for example 200 “points” once your post count exceeds 20,000, regardless of what you have posted (including for example TripleA turn postings).

So “reputation” is the sum of all upvotes (maybe subjective quality, maybe a simple confirmation of taking notice) and quantity (mass posting reward), which - benevolently - might be interpreted as reward for long time membership.

Most likely no TripleA developer will ever look into our TripleA support category. This is why I recommended to you to hit the “Report to TripleA” button in that topic. This produces an issue at Github, the place where the developers look and maintain the software (provided someone is active).

The support category here is more or less run by me - where I try to provide user support and help with issues on the user’s side - but I am not a developer or coder.

Im actually feeling pretty stupid here, since I have been in to this game since 2003. Please cut me some slack. :)
Is the turn order as printed in the 2nd edition global rulebook “Italy/anzac” or did it change?

Neither the turn order nor anything else has changed from the 2nd ed. rulebooks. The rulebooks (and official FAQ) to be found on the AH rules page represent the latest status.

    • How to set up TripleA to work with the forum

TripleA-versions starting from 1.9.0.0.13066 do work with the current forum software - and allow Play by Forum.

      From the changelog (https://triplea-game.org/release_notes/)
      0_1542609861004_changelog.PNG

      Get it from

      https://triplea-game.org/download/

Have you already registered your email-address in order to use the external dice server?

      dice.PNG

If not, please do so, as you need to enter your and your opponent’s registered dice email addresses.

When resuming older games or starting a new game don’t forget to identify the new game-ID (=topic-ID = Game Name) and enter it into the game details.

      How to identify the game-ID?

Find your game thread or create a new one and see its web address (URL).
Then identify the number marked yellow here:
      0_1542449053944_ID.PNG

The number appearing in your URL is your game-ID.

Again: In case you resume a game you have started in the old forum, you need to overwrite the old ID with the newly identified one:

      0_1542701643922_gameid.PNG

      Further details:

      0_1542707319403_attach.PNG

“Login” and “Password” of course are your forum username and forum password.

Also don’t forget to have “Attach save game to summary” checked:

Be sure that your Java 8 is up to date when playing 1.9: https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Note that for versions higher than 2.0 TripleA automatically installs an up-to date Java Version into the TripleA-directory.
So you don’t need to care.

In case you run into issues, please create a new topic about it.

    • RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)

The presence of an enemy submarine does not make the seazone hostile. So the “Sea units starting in hostile seazones-rules” do not apply.

But from the FAQ we read:

      Q. If some of my units begin my turn in a sea zone with enemy submarines and/or transports and I decide to attack them, can I move some or all of my units out of the sea zone in combat movement to avoid having them participate in the combat?

      A. Yes. Even though the sea zone is not hostile (it contains no enemy surface warships), you can still move units from the sea zone in combat movement to escape combat if you’re attacking there. However, you must still respect the rules for moving units in the Combat Move phase to escape combat.

This means that in the situation in question, units leaving the sea zone in combat movement to avoid participation in the attack can actually end their movement in friendly zones, so transports that are leaving don’t have to participate in an amphibious assault.

In case you decide to engage the submarine you can do it, but every unit in that seazone that did not perform an alternative combat move will be part of the battle then.

A transport can also load to perform an amphibious assault. It needs an escort in case it unloads in a seazone that contains an enemy submarine.

@Ivelity Welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

Just use the “Battleship & cruiser bombardment”-step of the Amphibious Assault-sequence as described in the rulebook, page 15.

During Combat Move Phase move the loaded transport together with the Battleship into the seazone you plan to unload from. As there is no sea battle you may use the Battleship to bombard the territory.

    • RE: Can air units fly over a strict neutral, if other units are also attacking that neutral?

      @matttodd1
According to the Europe1940.2 rulebook (page 11)
“Strict neutrals are treated in exactly the same way as unfriendly neutrals, …”

And in that section we have: “Air units can’t fly over an unfriendly neutral
      unless they are attacking it.”

All combat movement is considered to take place at the same time.
So “a particular plane” cannot fly over Turkey to attack Iraq.
The above (second) quote does not refer to an attacking power but to the air unit itself.

So in your case every air unit needs to attack Turkey to be allowed to fly over Turkey.
