    • RE: Super Stack or Stupid Stack?

      @Gargantua:

      With anything you’ve got.

If you’ve built air, great, use it.

If you’ve got some artillery, use them here and there too.

The point is, you need to fight 1, or 2, or 3, small battles each turn, to stem the tide.  A full retreat back to moscow, with NO RESISTANCE anywhere, is the worst thing the Russians could possibly be doing.

Surely the problem here though is that you presuppose the German player is using mini-stacks as opposed to two or three mega stacks as well…

To be honest I think if Germany goes full Barbarossa from G2 onwards then Russia has no chance, all they can do is buy time (and often not even that). And to be honest, I’m okay with that because if Russia could take Germany solo then it wouldn’t be a very balanced game…

    • RE: Axis time strategy

A J3/J4 DoW in my view is usually because Japan has accepted that his role is to help Germany/Italy win in Europe. Consequently, he’s probably going for China to get a bit of extra $$$ and Russia to ease Germany’s Barbarossa while keeping America off Germany’s back long enough that Germany can get into a  better position to deal with him when the time comes.

That’s what i did with my last Japan game and we had a runaway victory.  :-D

Convince the UK player that it’s best to preserve his Med fleet by fleeing out into the Indian Ocean and linking up with the Indian fleet before returning to storm the Suez Canal. Then as soon as he’s left, capture Egypt and laugh at him.

Kill China as Japan - Even if it costs you the game. China is the single most annoying Power to play against.

Preserve Japan’s fleet at all costs.

    • RE: Regarding the Mongolian neutral territories

My understanding is that they count as being pro-Allies and activate the other neutrals as well. Similarly if the Soviet Union invades Mongolia then they would be pro-Axis and activate the other neutrals in the same way.

In fairness I should say that Italy had supreme good luck during our game (and a devestating strategy which I managed to shove Italy into (although he did certainly make my abstract theory work in practice so kudos!)

The UK fleet fled out into the Indian Ocean in UK1 (it had been sunk by J3 together with the UK§ and ANZAC fleets) then Italy launched a joint amphibious and land assault on Egypt after blitzing the Middle East and setting up a minor IC in Iraq.

From about I5 onwards the whole north coast was in Italian hands with a heavy Italian garisson (being reinforced each turn) in Morocco and Italy & USA were trading Gibraltar every turn and so stopping the USA and Britain breaking open the Med.

    • Fighting off Barbarossa from Moscow…

Has anyone tried the following builds with Russia when faced with a G2 Barbarossa?

      R1 build 1 Tactical Bomber, 2 Tanks, 2 Mech and 2 Infantry

      R2 onwards build all Infantry

The theory behind this would be that you can then group 2 fighters, 2 tac bombers and 3 tanks in Moscow and, using the Red Army as a meat shield, use those 7 units as a hammer to counter-attack when the Germans advance into places like Belorus…

Has anyone tried this approach? How did you fare?

Also, don’t feel you have to hold all of the DEI against all comers. You collect income at the end of your turn, not the beginning so I just designate a splinter fleet to follow the Allies around re-re-capturing what they re-captured the turn before.

I’d also say that the most important island of the DEI is Java as, if you station a small fleet here, you can use the island and surrounding sea zone as a shield against the ANZACs while still threatening India, Malaya and the Phillipines.

I had a lot of fun with Japan - although (and I’m aware that Cow will want my blood for saying this) I played to maximise Germany’s chances of winning so generally sailed around making a complete pest of myself to distract America and UK from the war that they should have been fighting  :-D

I can definitely see the advantage of a J1 DoW in the Pacific but what is the alternative if your German ally feels that he needs to keep the USA out of Europe for the maximum three turns?

Just push into China and try to hit Russia from behind? Or tell Berlin to suck it up and DoW anyway?

      :-D

    • Stupid question concerning Minor ICs which I cannot find an answer to…

I know you cannot build a major IC on a territory which you didnot originally own. Is this the same with minor ICs as well?

      Cheers, guys  :?

What’s that, Cow? And if it includes a J1 DoW then doesn’t that shaft Germany in Europe by sending the US economy sky rocketing and allowing Operation Torch on US3?

    • RE: India Crush

Cheers guys. I’m wondering if the best approach then is to DoW on J2 and hit Malaya, Kwangtung and the spice islands (spec Borneo) in one blitz to hopefully bring India down to about 7IPC income and force them to turtle for a bit while I clear the Chinese out of Yunnan and Szechuan before turning everying south to take them from the land and sea combined?

How do you hold Yunnan against the 6 inf and 1 fighter counter attack though?

So could you outline in brief the moves Japan would have to play to pull it off, please?

    • India Crush

Hi guys, I’m pretty new to A&A and I’ve got a query about the India Crush strat (yes I’ve searched the forum already but can’t seem to find anything):

Isn’t it really obvious to the UK player that your target is Calcutta? The second your fleet arrives at Hainan (with the new NB put down there) he’s set up a ship blockade so you then have to attack India on J3 after moving to the adjacent sea zone in J2. If you do this though, UK will just fill India with infantry and create a nut you’ll never crack.

Does the strategy rely on the UK not realising what you’re up to? Or is it that you just switch strategy to take the spice islands when he realises?

      Thanks for the advice, chaps
