    • RE: NEW AA app

      A great idea would be to have a game key/id for a single game that all of the players of that game can log into and manage their purchases, National Objectives, and see the income of other players. The whole game can be maintained by the players and shared on each of their screens.

    • RE: Nation- (and City-) Specific Victory City Markers

      I don’t know if this is relevant, but we use two different colored flags for capital city control in Global games, and for victory cities we use Fortress America 1e cities in two different colors (Axis/Red) (Allies/Blue). Here’s a pic of them. The cap;ital flags are in UK, France, Berlin, and Italy. You can see non-capital victory cities in Poland and Novgorod.

      Simple yes, but easy to identify when checking victory city control.

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

      @Krieghund:

      @P-Unit:

      This is not how I understand the rules. Morocco is a British colony and thus can’t be taken over by the USA.

      Morocco is a French colony and can’t be taken over by the USA (unless being recaptured from the Central Powers while Paris is enemy-held).  However, the question concerned Spanish Morocco, which is a colony of neutral Spain, and thus fair game for both sides.

      Thank you. Yes, I meant French, but I didn’t notice the territory in question was Spanish-Morocco. Sorry for the confusion.

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

      @cond1024:

      After reading the Kriegs answers thread I had a question about this post:
      "Q.
      If France moves into Spanish Morroco on Turn 1, no units activate, since it’s a colony, correct? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes but just making sure.

      A.
      Correct."

      1. So America can basically walk into Spanish Morroco and gain the 1 IPC without having to fight anything?
      …

      @Krieghund:

      1.  Yes.
      …

      This is not how I understand the rules. Morocco is a British colony and thus can’t be taken over by the USA. Krieghund, where in the rules is your reply supported?  We’ve been playing colonies controlled by major powers, such as Morocco contrllled by Britain, can’t be taken over by allies, but colonies not controlled by major powers, such as Belgian Congo, can be taken over and controlled by allies.

    • RE: Areas in Global 1940 that could be improved

      I’ve found National Objectives in all A&A games to be extremely clunky, hard to track and manage for a simple bonus to IPCs. I’ve always wanted a MUCH simpler way to gain bonus IPCs while still retaining the flavor of WW2 strategic direction. Global would be sped up tremendously by replacing NOs with something simple Axis-specific and Allies-specific IPC values for certain territories; so certain strategic territories would have one IPC value for the Axis and a different IPC value for the Allies. No more tracking all these bizarre territory control combination states or temporal conditions.

      Yes, Cruisers and AAA aren’t worth purchasing.

      The Political Situation rules are WAY too complex. I fully understand them but they are way too fiddly for what they do. A simple universal Political Situation would be better. Yes, probably less historic but I’d rather let the war develop as we play it, not to reproduce history.

      @loki17:

      Holy smokes 69 pages for FAQ…is there a class I can take to learn how to play this game

      While a pretty deep and semi-complex game, the 1940 rule books are VERY good. I wouldn’t be exaggerating much saying 50% of the answers to questions in this post can be found in the rulebook.

    • RE: The Global 'Streamlined' Package

      I’m also one who believes National Objectives are an enormous pain and time sink to manage and keep track of for what ultimately is simply extra IPCs. I would much rather they be represented by something like you have suggested, oil refineries. I wish this was an official variant. :)

    • RE: Real value of units

      @atease:

      No tanks or no mechs would make for a very slow game!

      It does. We have a couple of players that buy a LOT of infantry, almost exclusively. The exception is when they are Japan. With Japan they “only” purchase about 40% infantry.

    • RE: Real value of units

      We’ve played a dozen or so games and these units are never or very rarely purchased, sorted by least purchased first. I think all of these need a minor boost. Note, we do not play with techs.

      • AAA [never; not even once]

      • Cruisers [almost never]

      • Mechanized infantry [rarely]

      • Tanks [rarely]

      • Subs [rarely]

    • Russian Revolution: Advatage for Allies?

      I believe using the optional Russian Revolution rule is advantage to the Allies, in a game already favoring the Allies.  We’ve only played with the Russian Revolution, but I believe playing without it would allow the CP to conquer and control more territories, generating more income for the CP. Of course, the CP would then almost always have to push hard to conquer Moscow, possibly limiting strategic options.

      What do you think?  I’d like for a sightly more balanced game and we’re considering not using the Russian Revolution in an attempt at better balance and hope that it will allow for more Russian strategies besides delicately surrounding Moscow to force it into the Revolution.

    • RE: Interest in COMBAT DICE for Axis & Allies 1914?

      Have you guys considered producing dice such as the ones shown in the pic below? These are a set I made with transparent laser adhesive paper and blank dice. They speed up the game tremendously and make combats much much easier to run. White have one “hit” side (attacking infantry), blue have 2 (defending inf), green have 3 (attacking planes/tanks), and red have 4 (BBs, defending planes).  Of the 50 or so players that have used them when they come to my house to play, every one of them praise the dice and don’t want to play without them.

      I would purchase a large set of engraved versions of these dice. My stickers wear off and have to be replaced regularly.

    • Need comments on 1914 map

      Before I print this map out I’m looking for a 2nd set of eyes on a 1914 map of IL’s that I modified.  Imperious Leader kindly sent me a modified version of his 1914 map that I made changes to appease my playing group. I’m looking for some feedback, comments, and if spotted, any corrections that need to be made. Here are the goals we had for this map:

      • Major Power territory colors had to be close to that nations unit colors

      • Territory colors had to be color-blind friendly. I’ve already verified this with my color-blind friends.

      • Removal of unneeded roundels

      • Make all neutral territories the same color [dirty white]

      • Make the major power colors distinct looking so that roundels weren’t needed in non-capital territories

      • Just make the map simpler and easier to play on

      The goal was to simplify and decluttered the map by removing all non-capital roundels, making color be the identifier for Major Power starting territories, and making all neutral territories the same [dirty white] color.  I don’t know why the original map decided to set the color of an aligned neutral territory to the color of the major it’s aligned with. The small roundel to the left of the neutral’s large capital roundel achieves this fine, I believe.

      Have any critical gameplay elements been removed by making the above color and roundel changes to this map? From how we read the rules and how we play, I believe this is all the info you need to play, with very easy to identify territory colorings.  The link below is to a simple jpg, I don’t recommend printing this version. I’ll upload the original Photoshop version, and a large image file, when I’ve verified it’s accurate.

      Thanks

    • Amerika: by HBG

      They started a Kickstarter for their upcoming game Amerika. Alternative WW2 ending game in America, looking a little like Fortress America. Looks like they could use some supporters to meet their goal. I have no affiliation with them, it just look cool to me! :)
