We use chips. It will still be crowded, but things get better after round 1.

RE: SBR comparative analysis, a real breakthroughposted in House Rules
You both seem to arrive at the same outcome for StB A1 doing SBR against 2 Fgs D1:
G40 D6+2: +4.85 - 5.056 = -0.206 IPCs damage/SBR*9= -1.854But Baron Munchausen multiplies this 0.206 with a factor of 9. Could you explain this BM, I’m not sure what this factor is doing there.
EDIT: I strongly discourage using math like it’s used in that line. Equations like +4 - 5 = -1 *9 are false, and hurt my feelings. [/math-nazi]

RE: Grasshopper's G40 Victory Objectivesposted in House Rules
This seems like an elegant successor to the original rules, thanks for posting these. I assume you have played according to these house rules quite a bit before posting, could you elaborate on how balanced you found them to be?

RE: Stupid A&A G40 Rulesposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Being able to retreat all attacking forces to a single territory after a single round attack. I understand why the rule is there, but it can lead to ridiculous situations. Isolated pockets of infantry make the magical 2-step retreat to safety after being assisted from 1 unit from this safe location.

RE: Scramblingposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Thank you all for your replies.
We weren’t sure when a naval base / airfield was no longer functional, but it’s 3 or more damage? It didn’t come up in our game, but it’s good to know for the next.
Regarding the amphibious assault scenario from earlier: the way we played it was that the attacker would send airplanes to his own fleet (from which he would offload) just in case the defender on Gibraltar would scramble and defend-attack the fleet. Is this correct? Because we quickly figured that this makes amphibious assaults a lot weaker. Airplanes are designated to offloading fleets in such large numbers that the defender will no longer attack/defend the fleet, in which case the attacker just used up his airplanes for a battle that never took place.

RE: Scramblingposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
We just played a wonderful first game and noticed scrambling can be quite important.
Were we correct in interpreting the rules as follows? GB and US both have fighters in Gibraltar. Italy makes an amphibious assault on French troops on Morocco from seazone 92, using a very weak fleet. Are the US and GB fighters allowed to ‘defend’=attack the Italian fleet?

Scramblingposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Hi all,
I tried looking through the forum for an answer, but most topics seemed outdated.
I am thinking of buying Axis & Allies Europe 1940, 2nd edition. I’ve already read

the rules of 1940 2nd ed. in a .pdf

the FAQ of September 3, 2014
I am pretty much lost regarding scrambling.
The Rules say:
“A quick reaction team of no more than 3 defending fighters and/or tactical bombers (strategic bombers can’t scramble) located on each island or coastal territory that has an operative air base can be scrambled to defend against attacks in the sea zones adjacent to those territories.”The FAQ says:
Q. Can I scramble fighters or tactical bombers from United Kingdom?
A. No. They can only be scrambled from island territories with airbases. An island is a single territory
completely surrounded by a single sea zone. The FAQ leaves little room for interpretation. What appears to have happened is that the “coastal territories” have been taken out of the equation. Do you agree with the FAQ and what it implies?

_Can America land troops in Algeria R1? _
Yes, using the 2 transports in SZ10.A Ger sub in SZ11 doesn’t get a suprise attack on a Transport as it moves by to unload in SZ 12?
Indeed, it doesn’t. The transport never sees the submarine._If a destroyer is escorting the transport will they both have to stop and do combat? _
Yes, since all combat occurs at the same time, you cannot first conduct combat with the destroyer, and then move the transport through that seazone to do an amphibious landing.
You can, however, use the destroyer to conduct combat in that seazone, and afterwards move the transport through if you use the transport in the non-combat move._We use AA guns in combat. It always gets the gift of the first wound in combat. After combat the AA gun is placed back in the country under control of the victor. Are we doing this right? _
You’re not using it right. The AA-gun can only move in the non-combat phase, so you cannot take it to any combat.
If a territory with an AA-gun is attacked by aircraft, it does get first strike as you mentioned, but it fires only once, at the beginning of the battle.
