    • RE: Is the Axis Advantage it's overwheling Air Power?

      Although this may not be directly relevant to the topic, I still think it fits here. Well, the question is what to do with the axis advantage. I think it is also reasonable to discuss the following. Basically you have different ways of playing the game, but to simplify there are three main groups:

      1. Dice game
      2. Low luck game
      3. Tech/no tech with dice/low luck option
        I think it is possible to win a dice game as the allies with original set-up. I think it is close to impossible to win a low luck game as the allies with original set-up. You will have to play a rookie to win. I think it is possible to win as the allies with low luck and low luck on tech.
        Bottom line, different games need different solutions in my opinion. In the dice game maybe a 10-12 IPC bid is good enough. In option 2 especially if no tech is selected I think the allies need a huge bid or remove a bunch of axis planes. What I find is technology will change the game quite a lot and maybe technology is not used enough by the allies? Especially if the low luck on tech is selected USA should spend 30 IPC and go for chart 2, where all is pretty useful maybe with the exception of radar. Thoughts?

      all right, thanks! Thats what I did too. looks like it is not possible to put any british units in pacific for bids. Did various testing! (at least on my computer!)

      @Zhukov44:

      If you want to place something on western india, give the bid to UK Pacific.

      well, that is what I thought too, but there is no UK pacific bid option, only british bid option (along with all other economies except UK pacific) Why?

    • Triple A Global 1940, UK bid

      So when playing global 2nd ed on Triple A my bid was 12 for UK, I buy a sub out of egypt and an armor I intend to place the armor in western india (oops typed egypt here!). This is not possible, I am not allowed to put the armor there. Why? Isnt the whole purpose with a bid to put units where you want to?

    • RE: Carrier group in black sea

      I have played around with this and I dont think it is worthwhile. If you buy mech inf in ukraine and volgograd round one as russia (after G1 minor in romania) Russia has all options available with the three planes they have. Caucasus is retaken on R3 and it gives enought time for UK to land at least 5 planes in Egypt end of round 3. For Germany to protect against this they need more navy in black see. Dont need that. Italy MUST take Egypt round two for this to work. REALLY hard to do if you play a decent UK player. But good discussion people!

    • RE: The Tokyo BLITZ

      I think this is sound. Like you point out, Japan can not ignore this. But isnt the ultimate goal to land in Korea reinforced by 12-18 russians with 2 AA with the aim of a US minor IC?

      @Narvik:

      @Herr:

      @Narvik:

      What if Russia buy a sub in the Black Sea ?

      That was my initial thought too, against the airbase variant of this strategy, but if Germany simply buys a destroyer, then the Romania planes will scramble when the sub attacks.

      If Ge buy a carrier and two trannis in the Black Sea, next turn Ru buy 3 subs and land 3 aircrafts in an adjacent territory

      Now Ge is forced into a naval race, or lose the investment

      Nahh. Are they? the initial buy should be one transport and one destroyer and one airfield. isnt a three sub R buy an easy kill?

    • RE: Barbarossa timing question

      @knp7765:

      Hello TheMethuselah,
      I have a few of my own ideas regarding Sealion, Barbarossa and the G1 purchase.
      First, a carrier and 2 transports is a good buy for Germany for several things. There is Sealion of course. You can also use them to amphibiously assault Leningrad when you decide to attack Russia. Depending on how much the US puts into the Atlantic, you can use them to take Gibraltar and maybe even help Italy in the Med and Africa.
      Also, assuming you wiped out the Royal Navy on round 1 and are using your Luftwaffe and maybe some subs to keep them from trying to rebuild their navy, you could end up getting an opportunistic Sealion. In other words, once you are all in on attacking Russia and you have passed on Sealion for G3 or G4, the UK player may get a little over confident, spend too much in Africa and end up leaving London under-defended. This might happen around round 5, 6 or 7. (One time, playing Germany, I took both Moscow and London on the same turn because UK had too much stuff in the Med.)
      As for Barbarossa, I know a lot of people like to rush into it round 2 (some even round 1), but I never attack Russia until at least round 3. I also don’t do the “strafe” of Yugoslavia. As Germany, I always take Yugoslavia round 1 then move things into position on the border round 2. This also allows me to bring the 4 Bulgarians up to Romania to join in on the attack and any surviving tanks and mechs from France will get over to the east as well.
      Sometimes I will even wait until round 4. I will buy a carrier and 2 transports round 1. Then I will buy infantry and artillery for round 2. I will also use those transports to move some of the infantry and artillery to Norway so they can go over to Finland. Then round 3 I will buy tanks and mechs while moving infantry/artillery to the border. Then on round 4, I will attack on 4 fronts:
      Finland > Karelia
      Poland > Baltic States
      Hungary > E. Poland
      Romania > Bessarabia
      If Russia decides to put up defense on the border, it will cost me some losses but I get to kill a lot of Russia’s strength. If they start pulling everything back, then I have a really large force marching it’s way across Russia which is nearly unstoppable.
      This will usually be a win for me in Russia even if they stack Moscow, although it does depend on dice and what the US/UK are able to do in the west. That can be a problem. On a couple of occasions I beat Russia down while the Western Allies captured Berlin. It sucks when your capital is threatened and all your hardware is a thousand miles to the east.

      I think you have strong arguments for this, but what do you do with Japan? I assume no DOW for J1-3?

    • Carrier group in black sea

      Is this a fair strategy?

      G1: buys minor in Romania
      G2: buys carrier and transport in romania, lands two fighters on carrier
      G3: lands in caucasus (+5 NO) (may hold or re-take every round)

      Depending on sit. one can land italien planes in caucasus to protect. Also carrier group is not easily sunk by allies

      Does this work? and it is worth the spending of a minor, carrier and transport?

      Alternatively, buy air base (instead of carrier) and have three fighters to scramble

    • RE: Liberating France or not?

      my initial thought were it is completely unreasonable for Germany to gain up to 19 IPCs every time they take paris. What if the allies need to actually keep Paris for an enrire round before it turns into “France”, then it makes some sense for Germany to take the 19 IPCs. Makes no sense to me if the teritory is battled by both sides every round!

    • Liberating France or not?

      So after x number of rounds a common situation is US/UK liberates Normandy/Bordeaux and maybe southern France. They might be able to keep the territories because Germany and Italy are busy elsewhere and France looks more or less unprotected. Now what? Should the allies just walk into France? Probably not as the problem is of course it is in Germany’s interest to re-take France every round and get the up to 19 IPC from France. France is then re-taken by Germany, but now the allies face a huge problem, because Normandy/Bordeaux and southern France are now French!
      Basically, how strong should one be in order to liberate France? It is very tempting to liberate France but in most games I think it is a huge mistake at least in the early rounds. How do people go about this?

    • How do the allies keep Egypt?

      Maybe, there are posts about this, but I dont find it.

      I am curious what is the best way for the allies to prevent Italy to take Egypt? Seems to me Egypt is easily lost to Italy with all the dramatic consequences that have

    • RE: The Japan Playbook

      I think J1 DOW is probably a solid move. But what is the best way of dealing with the chinese? Especially in the rounds before India falls? If you leave them alone a couple of rounds they are all over the place. If you fight them it tends to slow down the campaign against India. I do not see any clear strategies for this here. what do people do?
