      Just a couple of more comments. I think we all understand the need for clear guidelines when it comes to playoffs. If you only have played BM and then in the playoffs are drawn against someone who insists on OOB it comes across as unfair. That is certainly a valid point. But you can also argue the other way too and especially since the rule sates OOB is default. I think we need to update the rules! But how??

      The argument to the majority is that no one plays OOB, so it doesn’t matter if you allow it in the regular season if they, the majority, are not required to play it in the playoffs. To me this is meaningless and borderline selfish. There is no motivation to play OOB in regular league play if you are required to play BM in the playoffs. That is a sure death penalty to OOB competitive play. Is that what the League wants?

      The only solution I see is to have three leagues, one for OOB, one for BM and one for PtV. Then we avoid all arguments about what to play. If no one wants to play OOB then that league will die after a season or two, but the OOB could also get revitalized, I think. Really it is not that much work to record results for different games in different ranking sheets. I really don’t see why it is a problem. Nothing prevents people from playing all three leagues if they like. Also, if we are worried about no one playing OOB you may remove the 8 games cap for playoffs and introduce a 3 or 4 game rule.

      I also think a solution like this will make it easier to keep all players at this site. We desperately need every single player! If everyone gets to play what they want even for the playoffs its easier to keep players too. I think players in many situations are “forced” to play BM because “everyone” wants that, and they feel expected to.

      Yeah, obviously this game got out of hand. I have played trulpen too and I don’t think he is unfair. HOWEVER, he is KING of EDITS and that is not so good all the time. With that said he also allows you many edits. I think edits should be kept to a minimum… and not so much after next post. Sometimes this becomes a fine line.

      Personally I only bump if I really mean to, bumps should never be used if you only intend to “activate” the game. A bump is a bump. Periode.

      All:

      After several years of playing BM (on and off) I am interested in hearing peoples view on marines. Are they useful? Do they add something to the game?

      I struggle with finding how to use them.

      Honestly one of the best purpose I have found is to buy with Russia before german DOW just to distract germany so they cant leave land open.

      It may be usefull to buy with Japan and take guam and it also may make a differance against an early assault on India.

      For the USA it it may make sense to buy on the east coast and put on the cruiser there (maybe the best use I think)

      In the pacific it sounds cool because you can island jump and claim several undefended japanese islands, but in reality it does not work because your cruiser (or battleship) is very volunerable for counter attacks.

      For the british i have found no or little use for marines, may be useful in special situations where you have several cruisers, but keep in mind 3 cruisers require 15 IPC which is eq. to a transport and inf +art and you get to keep the tranny

      For italy? I have little input. Very rearly a lonely cruiser can enter open sea in the med. It needs to be protected by the fleet, then it may make sense.

      Anzac: I have never bought a marine with ANZAC

      So, in summary I find it useful for some nations in the early game, but I hardly ever, or never, buy a marine past round 2

      for a 50 bid. I would take:

      British
      Scotland: 1 fighter
      Sz 110, 91 and 98: 1 sub each
      sz 71: 1 transport
      Egypt: 1 infantry

      China
      Yunnan: 1 inf

      Anzac
      sz 62: 1 sub
      New Guinea: 1 inf

      The China and sz 62 bid is to discourage a J1 attack. J1 attack is extremely powerful when playing OOB version

      its not a bad idea to have different caps for different games. It may make much sense to put the cap at 8 for BM and for example 4 at OOB.

      I anticipate the die hard BM folks want nothing left behind and want the 8 game cap, its fine. Then OOB could serve as an alternative. AND it should be possible to participate in BM and OOB playoffs given you have enough games. I think it is important not to exclude people though

      I dont play PtV so I have no input there

      For the OOB ranking most top players are not active. It should be a tool to filter away the non active players to achieve a current/up to date ranking of active players. How do ido that? If you were great in 2014, 16 and 17 and havent played a game since, then, I dont care what your ranking is

      If you want to help euro axis with japan a better plan (I think) is to secure India with japan and from there (or Malaya) go for South Africa. South Africa is usually less defended than Egypt and hence it is easier to capture with less resources, maybe a couple of transports are enough together with a loaded carrier and a destroyer. A yellow south africa is a pain to deal with for allies

      Remember, as Japan you have like 20 planes from start you can put on carriers. This is the key. If you position wisely you dont ned to buy any fighters for the first 5 or 6 rounds. At the same time you shoud by at lest 5 carriers. But your fleet also need a few destroyers, but not more than the original 4. Any extra navy should be subs. The more the better.

      So ideally at end of round 5 you have like 8 carriers, 2 bb, 2 cr, 4 dest, 4 subs and 5 trannies

      America cant push you away noe and you should be making around 65 every round. You have spent like 140 ipc on navy and you have made a total of about 200. This give 60 for facilities and inf in china. Buy 1 or 2 factories or 1 factory and a navy base. Depending on situation. Ideally just 1 factory. Also, dont be to afraid of the far east russians.

      I will prefer to keep cost of bombers at 12 and attack value at 4. There are so many reasons not to mess with any of these numbers. I agree that Germany can project threats to many areas at once with a stack of bombers. If you want to fix that you need to do something with Germany’s income. Remove the Crete objective and/or/partly change (some of) Norway, peace with USSR, Nov/Leningrad/Caucasus objectives to 4. You then achieve pretty much the same thing as increasing the cost of bombers while only targeting Germany.
      Is the original post by Regularkid an April fool? I haven’t seen him around for ages and then he suddenly appears on April 1?! :blush:

      I think @trulpen proposal is a good idea. It is a significant weakness with todays system that high rank players can not play low rank players without going down in ranking. You don’t become a worse player by playing a non ranked or so called bad player if you are tier E or M.

      I think administration of todays system is easy, it gives good indication on how good a player is. It is the same players every year who dominate the league/rankings and hence todays system is working. Maybe the elo rating system would generate more league games and maybe you would play other players that you dont play today.

      I think @trulpen needs to describe how the elo rating system should be introduced and also how we should go about administrating it. Without any such information todays system will stand as it is not a bad system even though not perfect

      I am just throwing in my two cents here. I think i am one of the few that actually have tried the tamvan mode.

      I think it adresses the problem with the oob version differently than bm3. It changes the stup by giving soviet a fighter and a tank. This doesnt affect anything but changing the setup is so so. What it does good is, it takes money away from Germany as opposed to bm3 where the solution always is to throw out more money. This is infact a HUGE weaknes with bm because the games last forever.

      Because of the nov/moscow/vol/cauc objective is changed to 3 it also becomes more evident to go after Norway as the allies i think. Maybe this becomes too predictable in the long term

      In the end. an easy and elegant fix, but it is probably not enough

      I have about 15 face to face games, typically against one friend. We play standard G40 2nd ed with NO BID. Whoever loose gets to take the other side next time. We toss inn some beers, wine and other alcoholic beverages to cancel out any need for bids. I havent kept detailed track of it, but its pretty much anyones game and we must be close to 50:50 in win ratios. We also disallow any calculators, so its hard to know if you are 60:40 or 90:10 in big battles

      Forum games are completely different as everyone knows. Both are fun, but in different ways.

      The tripple A lobby is somewhere in between I think

      yah I already started one with Adam, but for play testing, not league. I had to really think hard about the R1 turn, as now there is a lot more ground to cover in the eastern front against G, and also there are facs on the other side of Russia, including on in Siberia. now I’m due for US turn and can’t really get to it until later in the evening, but I expect it to be similarly challenging to figure out, as J1 looks significantly different and with quite a different pac to consider

      i think it is a completely different game…

      My friend came up with an idea for live games. In our next game we are going to use Triple A for round 1 and then set up the board after that

      I think that will save a lot of time because you are usually moving all the stuff around during round 1 anyway

      Has anyone tried this?

      @WindowWasher i think this is something that should be considered. I think the main reason is, sometimes these games takes FOREVER. What is the “record” to decide a new champ? 1.5 years? 2 years? Could be more stict on time and “always” honor the 72h limit

      But i would vote yes to a 16 bracket for the championship. I think it is a good suggestion and will also create more interest.
