Sorry, My computer crashed and I just got it back. I’d love to play someone as the allies but 1. I don’t know all of the rules and how your supposed to do everything on forum playing 2. I have a big game scheduled on Thursday night so I don’t really have the time. I’ll post another update then afterwards to tell everyone how that went if y’all would like.

RE: Alpha 3 balanceposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Anzac didn’t play good I’ll say that. They bought a battle ship A2 and moved that and the fighters up to attack my fleet off the caroline islands. They lost those, leaving the path open to get astralia save a cruiser off the norther autralia cost. I landed there, then moved south.

When I attacked them i was also driving towards india and i kept the aussies focused on 2 loaded transports and a bb and carrier in the caroline islands

RE: Alpha 3 balanceposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have managed to cut the U.S. NO down to only 10 extra ipcs. I’ve just been pounding the U.K. with my airforce to keep them under, and have cut off the U.S. from going into the Med and Normandy with a bunch of German Subs. With Japan, once i took the DEI, I just built ships to help deter the U.S.

Alpha 3 balanceposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I recently played a game using the Alpha 3 rules and in my opinion i thought it was favored to the axis powers. I got all of N. Africa with Italy, all of France with germany while keeping U.K. at bay and getting deep into russia. As Japan I took India, Australia, the DEI, and was ready to invade U.S. I also was preparing a late invasion of Britain but the game ended before I could.
Like to know what everyone else thinks.

Japanese Strategy with Alpha 3posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I haven’t played this version yet, but I have looked at it. Are there any suggestions for a Japanese strategy from anyone? When I play OOB, (I never played alpha 2 because I heard about it, then alpha 3 came out a week or so later), I usually push outwards on all fronts except russia b/c the player who usually place russia doesn’t like using those units. Anyway, I go for the DEI, calcutta, and just be a pain in china. any tips?

RE: Dreadful Axis Mistakesposted in World War II History
Your post seems to suggest I may have underestimated the effectiveness of Japanese infantry. I’d be happy to have an excuse to strengthen the early game Axis, especially Japan. But before I can increase the qualitative effectiveness of Japan’s infantry, I will need a link to a reasonably authoritative source which addresses the subject of Japanese infantry’s effectiveness.
IMO, the strength of the Japanese military is very clear. They were a Effective fighting force. During Iwo Jima, only 22,000 men held off 70,000 men for a whole month, and it was expected that an invasion of Japan itself would involve MILLIONS of American casualties. I think that’s just amazing. However, they did not have the manpower to replace the lost units.

Thank you for the tips. I’ll play it this way and post back. I have a game planned for this weekend so it shouldn’t be long.

Carrier and Plane Movementposted in House Rules
When I play, me and my friends move the carrier first, then launch planes off of that to attack. In our eyes its just seems more realistic but I would like to know what everyone else thinks about it.

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
No aircraft can support that, as it takes 4 movement points to get from SZ 33 to New South Wales. They cannot land from there.
I have a house rule that aircraft on carriers can launch after the carrier makes its movement, cause in real life, if there were carriers in Japan with planes, the planes didn’t take off and attack midway from there, they took off once the carriers got to midway. Thats just one of my house rules.

Oh, and taking Australia turn 1 is a bit of a long shot rolls wise. Landing 1 infantry to attack 1 defending infantry.
Not if you have supporting aircraft.

Ok, so where can i find these rules?

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I never said I don’t like it over all, I just don’t like that aspect. Plus it all depends on the dice rolls, and its good to try and get the extra IPC’s as japan.

In that case, I’m starting to not like alpha +2. Does the U.S. still get that big bonus as in OOB
-
RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I don’t play Alpha +2 because A: I just heard of it, and B: I have no idea what the rules/setup are. I play oob rules which has 1 inf in carolinas, along with a DD, BB, and a Carrier with fighter and tac bomb, and transport. That is enough to take australia round 1 then move whats in Japan to the carolinas so you can either reinforce it or retake it if they take sydney back.

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Yes, Plus going after australia turn one eliminates that pest, and also gives you quite a few IPC’s if you take the whole Island, which you should be able to. I always shift the units in manchuria south, because the Player who plays russia with when I play doesn’t like to use them.

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@Young:
First, I buy 3 transports.
I have seen this a few times and I don’t understand it, I know you are going for Sydney first but if you don’t get more infantry on the mainland before your trip, it’s bye bye coastal territories and so long Shanghai and Hong Kong. If you buy 3 transports J1, that will give you 6 that need to get filled J2. Personally I would buy 2 transports and 4 infantry for a nice balance of both boat and cargo.
I don’t play Alpha +2, I just heard of it recently, but in OOB, There are 6 inf, and an artillary and I think a tank. So I load up with 4 inf, the arty, and tank, then replace J2, along with another transport or so.

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
First, I buy 3 transports. Next I go for Sydney my first turn. I use the inf. in the Carolinas and the fighters on the carrier for the land fighting. I use the navy to destroy and ships in the bordering sea zone. I then load up the 2 transports near Japan and move them to the Carolinas to invade again, because ANZAC will surely take it back next turn since you only have on inf. I Shut down the Burma Road, and push in the north with 2 inf and an artillary from Manchuria 1-2 spaces behind the leader.I also shift all my AF south to help in the push on india. Of the 2 times i’ve tried it, it worked once, the second time I shifted my 2 transports towards india to try and help there, but it didn’t work. This way, you imediatly eliminate the “pest” in the pacific, and can focus on everything else. I usually go for the DEI Once I eliminate the British navy, which might not be the best idea, but with 24 or so from taking anzac twice, and eliminating the “pest” I see it worth it.

RE: A different way to playposted in House Rules
Oh. I’ve never heard of it but is it very similar to my version.
-
RE: A different way to playposted in House Rules
Never heard of that. I was just getting tiered of assembling a big fleet to attack america and then him spending all of his IPC’s on curisers to send to Hawaii to fend me off. I found this as a solution.
