    • RE: Worst part of the game so far

      @wittmann:

      Nice accent you put  on for that vid Flash.
      I also hope that beard comes off easily.

      His points/complaints are all ones we have come up with.
      That is good to see.
      Thanks for finding it for us. @Flashman:

      Heres a pretty good review, highlighting the main problems with the game OOB:

      Although he said the game was unbalanced…in favor of the Axis…assuming he hadn’t played it through more than once.

      @knp7765:

      Once it is completed, do you have any plans on making one for the WW2 scenarios?

      So I had a thought on which units to use for WWII Confederates. I really like the ANZAC grey units from HBG: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Battle-Pieces–Allies-Supplement-set-Anzac-Grey_p_1131.html

      They have the “American” look without being green.

      Bill,
        Thanks for the description. I’m thinking of using these rules for a game this weekend, they definitely seem like they might be simpler for new players (fewer diplomacy situations to deal with) and hopefully will make for a shorter game.

      Just out of curiosity, you said Russia can play “spoiler”…What is this? I’m familiar with a lot of the A&A lingo, but I’ve never heard of this.

      Again, just permanently award the VC to the enemy, or if you don’t like that language, say “lower the number of VC’s needed for victory by 1”. This means that if Germany has 7 VC’s and the Allies nuke Cairo, the Axis win by default.

      I think the loophole is indeed gamey and an important one to close if you use this houserule, but closing it is quite simple.

    • RE: Need Atom bomb input…

      I think the original idea was not that it would destroy a VC, but that it would permanently award the VC to the opposite side. This would render the “scorched earth” loophole pointless.

      @Young:

      I wrote and article some time ago to help A&A virgins tackle 1940 Global, I was particularly proud when Larry Harris endorsed it and posted it on his own site. It wouldn’t hurt your new players to spend 15 minutes to read it, you can find it here….

      YG,
      Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. I think along with some NO cards/reference cards, I should be in good shape.

    • RE: NAZI ZOMBIE ARMY

      On a related note, has anyone done a just-for-fun scenario for A&A where the Nazis unleash a zombie plague? Could have it so each unit killed contributes to the number of zombies. Maybe use pieces from this game: http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1875585/risk-the-walking-dead-survival-edition

      @WILD:

      I will try to post a link later for Global1942

      I think this is it. I’m curious, did this ever gain traction/get tested? I’ve seen mixed opinions of it.

    • Teaching this Game

      Hey All,
          Need some advice, I’m planning a game this coming weekend, and there is going to be a mixed bag of experience levels with A&A. Some have never played this edition, and some have never play A&A at all. I know this probably isn’t the best game to introduce new players to, but this is the game I have and this is the game they want to play.

      I’m wondering if there are any “condensed” rule books out there, or sort of guide cards that teach the absolute basics without overwhelming the reader. I’m reluctant to just email the link to the rulebook pdf, I know it can be overwhelming at first.

      Thanks in advance for any help!

      @CWO:

      …and the 1914 Americans are somewhat close to the Milton Bradley khaki green Americans.

      I’ve often thought it might be cool to use the 1914 US infantry in the initial 1940 setup as sort of “pre-war” infantry…after all, the doughboy helmet was still in common use by the Americans until 1942.

      @Baron:

      @ossel:

      @IKE:

      16 IPC for 2 destroyers… may be better served buying 5 infantry to absorb the bombardment shots.

      This would be my suggestion. The battleships can only fire once; even if they both hit you still have 3 defenders that you didn’t have before.

      What would be your point break?
      With how many shore bombardment attack would you choose 2 DDs instead of 5 Infantries (or 4INf and 1 Art)?

      If you’re isolating this hypothetical to just this attack, I would say even if they were attacking with 5 battleships it would be beneficial to get the infantry. There’s always a chance that they will miss. The DD’s can’t participate in the land battle, so they are best case scenario saving you the number of hits the battleships could possibly roll.

    • RE: The Greater War: A Proper Map for A&A 1914

      Ok, good suggestions. What do you think of my original concept of doing away with the “diamond” design? It would basically require getting rid of much of Africa. I’d also want to stretch out the Western Front territories a bit; as several people have pointed out, they get pretty crowded late-game.

      For your alternate color armies, what do you use for unit types that didn’t exist yet (mechanized infantry, tactical bombers)?

      I have the Revised edition with the celery green Brits (didn’t realize it was rare lol), and I never thought about using them for Canada. Good Idea.

    • RE: Japanese Units used for American Cruisers

      The conclusion the other thread reached was that the best solution was to permanently award whatever Victory City was bombed to the attacker, and maybe damage production. This reflects what the use of these weapons in WWII was trying to accomplish.

      @protevangelium:

      Ossel,

      Do you have your own version of the OOB map for A&A 1914, with corrected map flaws?

      I have started on one, using similar textures, etc. as the one I’m making for American Front. It honestly hasn’t been a priority for me and it’s not as far along as this one. That’s certainly something I can work on in the future though. Was there ever consensus on what exactly needed to be changed?

      That’s some bull$#!+ right there. So the ONE thing that people were applauding about this mess of a game release, their customer service, they are now going back on? C’mon WOTC…

      Anyway, make sure to check out http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Axis-Allies-1914_c_427.html if you want to buy extra pieces without having to go to Ebay.
