      Are the units a different scale, or are they just shorter because they’re hunched over?

      @Imperious:

      So what im saying is go ahead and build 12 units in India and watch how soon UK falls once France falls because they didn’t support her ally.

      This. Many of these issues that are popping up are 9 times out of 10 not going to happen, and if they do, the player is an idiot. If Russia is cavorting around in Western Europe while three or more of their home tt’s are captured, then they deserve to be overthrown.

      Yeah, I’m also still debating how I’m going to divide up territories…Should I do strictly states, or sub-regions (N. Texas, Northern VA, etc.)?

      @Flashman:

      Minefields in SZs can be neutralized; basically if your side takes control of the enemy tt containing the relevant NB the mines are not rolled for.

      This makes absolutely no sense. So what, do we assume that when you take the territory you magically find maps of where the mines are? I’m pretty sure someone here has pointed out that it took something like 5 years for them to clear all the mines from some areas.  :?

      @oztea:

      You may need rules for backup capitals because Washington and Richmond are so close.

      I never actually read of the books so I may be wrong about what cities.ate.the capitals in this timeline

      Yeah, in the case of the U.S., Washington D.C. was the capital in name only; Philadelphia was the de facto capital. But I might have to make like 1 or 2 backup capitals per nation, and you have to take all of them to win.

      Cutting off the rail line that ran through Chihuahua and Sonora was also critical in the books, which encouraged fighting in the west. Might have to add some sort of National Objectives or something to that effect.

      Well, in my map Europe will dominate the center of the the Europe map, most likely most of Africa will be cut off. Since Europe and North America are roughly similar in size, this will make the scale pretty realistic. It’s definitely not going to be measurably perfect, but it won’t be ridiculous.

      I hadn’t really planned on it, the idea being that my new Europe map will be 36"x36" and this one will be as well, with North America dominating most of it.

      Oh, didn’t you all hear?

      There’s been a big warehouse fire at the US distributors.

      Unless you want fire damaged stock looks like you Americans will have to wait for the second production run.

      That’s not true…THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!!!

    • The American Front: An Alternate History Map For A&A 1914

      Hello All,

      In addition to the modified Europe map project I’ve announced here: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=30389.0 , I’m announcing a project I’m starting in parallel: to design a map based on author Harry Turtledove’s excellent alternate history Southern Victory series (http://turtledove.wikia.com/wiki/Southern_Victoryhttp://turtledove.wikia.com/wiki/Southern_Victory). When finished, this map will butt up against the Europe map to create a full world map of the conflict, as well as be able to be used by itself for those who only want to look at the American Front.

      For those of you who are unfamiliar, the book series is based on the stipulation that the Confederate States of America were able to achieve victory in the American Civil War, as well as in the Second Mexican War some years later, with intervention from their allies, Britain and France. It follows then that by 1914, the CSA is part of the Entente and the United States have allied themselves with Germany and the Central Powers. When the war breaks out, fighting rages along the North/South border, as well as between the U.S. and Canada.

      My goal here is to create a custom map that will mimic the look and feel of the A&A 1914 map, as well as to write some basic rules and scenarios unique to the timeline (for those who have read the books, I do intend to have Deseret and Congaree Socialist uprising rules  :wink:).

    • The Greater War: A Proper Map for A&A 1914

      Hello All,

      I’m announcing a project I’m undertaking to recreate the OOB 1914 map with many of the issues the community has brought up corrected. Once I design the board, I intend to post it here for feedback before having it printed on high-quality game boards.

      What I need from the community is suggestions and markups of the current board; point out the issues that bug you most (Polish coastline, East Prussia, Moscow as the Russian capital, etc. My goal is to produce a map that has a roughly similar look and feel to the OOB board, with issues corrected, all while maintaining game balance as much as possible.

      I’ll be drawing heavily from Flashman’s excellent work on the subject, as well as several others that have posted here.

      My initial thought is to rotate the map 45o, replacing the diamond design with a rectangular one. I’ll trace the outlines of the continents (within reason) and then redraw the borders as needed.

      I also intend to make my board so an optional U.S. alternate history map can be used side-by-side with the Europe Map, a la Global 1940. More details in this thread: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=30390.0

      Thanks in advance for your support, and as always, I am open to suggestions and feedback.

      @BJCard:

      Where is that from?

      Looks like an old newspaper. Just was googling ‘WW1 maps’ to get a look at the feel of period maps for a custom one I am creating.

      P.S.: Can someone translate the French at the bottom?

      @BJCard:

      Flashman, why do you keep saying ‘Turqy’?  Is that what it is supposed to be or is it a British English spelling or what?  Always been ‘Turkey’ to me.

      He’s poking fun at the fact that Turkey has the color turquoise in this game.

      …the word turquoise, which dates to the 16th century, is derived from an Old French word for ‘Turkish’, because the mineral was first brought to Europe from Turkey, from the mines in historical Khorasan Province of Iran.

      BOOOOM! Historical basis for them being turquoise.

      For those of you wondering how the game’s going to end up if you take me on while I control the Central Powers…. 8-)

      But we leave Italy alone…because we like pasta too much.  :-D

      Whoa, those Viktory II ship pieces are pretty cool.

      Hey IL, just out of curiosity (and feel free to PM me), what kind of process is involved with getting your own pieces made? I know you work with a supplier in China, but did you design the individual pieces? What program did you use?

      Yeah, these aren’t bad. Kind of miss the CP/Entente division of techs, but I sort of lost track of this thread and there’s probably a good reason for how you did it.

      @wove100:

      @ossel:

      For those who aren’t aware, Harry Turtledove writes alternate history books, and the work we’re referring to is the saga (like, 10 books) he created based on if the Confederacy had won the American Civil War. There are three books on WW1, 3 books on interwar period, and 4 books on WW2. My forum avatar is from one of the WW2 covers.

      Isn’t How Few Remain also a part of that series (it’s the second civil war after the North lost the first one). I’m sad to say that’s the only one I’ve read so far, but I have the first WWI book, just haven’t read it yet.

      Yeah, forgot that one. They’re admittedly a tough read, a little wordy and he tends to jump around to different characters a lot, but the subject matter is just too awesome. I mean, there’s a Roanoke Front! I’ll probably start a new thread either on this board or on the ‘other variants’ board to discuss.
