    • RE: Axis and Allies 2nd ed without bids, Axis Advantage, or RR

It will be tough, but not impossible.

Germany will have to survive. Thats about the only goal the have. Dont buy ftrs, but only inf, and an occasional arm (1st round 9 inf, 1 arm). Dont let the allies hit EEu or WEu while it is underdefended. Dont trade many units. If you cant secure WEu or EEu, leave it empty and setup for a counterstrike. For instance, if you cant hold EEU, than send all arm, ftrs and a few inf to WEu (say 5 inf, 8 arm, 3 ftr) and the remaining units in Ger (and 1-2 inf in SEu in case its threatened). Now EEu will likely be a deadzone. Leave it a deadzone, untill you are strong enough to move into it. Same procedure for WEu, in case pressure is too high. This way Ger has a chance to survive if allies dont play too well.

Jap has to focus on the Russians. That will be main focus. Afrika and Mad/Aus/NZe/Haw are side theaters. Only go after them if there is nothing else to do. Decide wether you want to go for IC’s or transports. Transports are more flexible and a better choice if you expect a tech war… If you are going fors industrial complexes, then dont place them in Kwantung. Its a waste of time. Go for Bur and if save Ind as well. Again focus on inf, and an occasional arm. Focus on getting the allies out of Nov. If you succeed, you have a chance to win the game.

You might wanna try a maptool like AAAMap for Windows or ABatlleMap. It will save you a ton of time.

      SamuriSoilder,

What game are you talking about exactly. I remember one of your threads were you are buying units for WCa, Aus and maybe more for lots of ipcs.

There is an AA club for cd play: AAWC.
Another option is to download Triple A.

For Play by Email: AAMC, DAAK, IAAPA or FoE are good clubs.

    • RE: Axis Question

It really is possible to play with those ics. Crucial is the Russian setup in round 1. Attack (or if possible strafe) Man and send support to Per and Sin. Uk can build ic in Ind. US ic in Sin. Russians units can free Ind if Jap took it (and UK can build in UK2). This opening is possible against a PE bid (up to 8 inf) so should very well be playable vs a 0 bid.

Without bids the axis will have a very tough job trying to win this game.

    • RE: Who do you prefer to take Finland/Norway with?

      @madscientist:

However, if the german 8 inf are placed on UKR, you can strafe them with everything Russia has in range and then retreat to Karelia (leaving 1 Rus. inf in Caucasus). This makes it impossible for Germany to take Karelia on turn 1 unless the use all their planes leaving UK with enough of a navy to take Karelia back on the second turn or do other damage like that.

This is 1 defense that wont work and will lose for the allies most of the time. The only way to go if you want to stay in Len is making no land attacks in Europe. This is already pretty risky. If you do attack chances for allied succes will go down, and attacking Ukr is one of the worst options.

The Russians might opt for attacking Fin w/3 inf, 3 arm, 1 ftr and clearing the BAL sz w/sub, trn, ftr. Picket Len w/1 inf, move aa out of Len and buy 3 inf, 3 arm. All eastern units rush to Mos, and setup for a counter attack on Len. This is quite risky as well, b/c the Japs can send air support to Len after Germany took Len on G1 (ftr Man, ftr Bur, bmb Jap).

With a 8 inf PE bid spread over Ukr/EEU those units might be trapped in Fin.

I think it might depend on the ruleset you play. If playing w/o bids, it may be as good to take it w/Rus or UK.

Anyway, an article has been written by a former GOA in Spring at that time, involving an ic in Fin. I might not agree w/the ic idea, but reading this can be interesting/fun:

    • RE: Who do you prefer to take Finland/Norway with?

Most of the time I will attack Fin w/US on round 2. I can send 6 inf, 1 arm, 2 ftr, 1 bmb for a good overkill (1-2 defending hits) + Russia can keep maximum pressure on EEu. Those US units can then trade Ukr (arm) and help Mos pretty quick.

I dont like putting a US ic on Fin. In case of a tech war it will be very advantegous for the Japs who can also SBR the US now.

1 ftr vs trn, sub? You will lose that ftr half the time.

      Hi Apolaris,

Battlemap 0.79 is a good maptool. You can scroll by right mouse click and hold. WinMap is another good and similar tool, but this tool is for 2nd ed only (battlemap contains a lot of maps).

The dicesims you are downloading are to assist you for calculating odds in battles, but wont roll any real dice that you can use in a game.

      Dicey http://www.aamc.tzo.com/main/login.html
      will roll real dice.

Register, find an opponent or get a mentor, get a gamenumber and have fun.

If you want to try A&A pbem, try http://www.dicey.net/nuke/ (AAMC). Lots of info and help. The download section contains some maptools, so you dont need to have a real gameboard.

    • RE: Poll: German First Turn Build

There are 2 types of online A&A. CD-games obiously wouldnt fit, but Play By Email maybe would. You can determine your own game speed (1 turn a day, 1 turn in 3 days, multiple turns a day etc). Furthermore there are tools for pbem such as maptools and online diceservers.

    • RE: Poll: German First Turn Build

Seems like AP describes it well why this never will happen. If Ger wants a tiny chance to succeed, they will need to buy at least 24 ipcs per turn for air to attack NOR, they would need at least 20 ipcs to encounter Russian attacks on EEu, and they would need at least 8 ipcs for building a navy (all per turn). 52 ipcs per turn to make this happen, and still it will look bad on all fronts (36/24/16 ipcs -> 76 ipcs is more likely to get acceptable chances), given that US is doing nothing. So even in an unlikely scenario its impossible (nothing is impossible with a dicegame, but you know what I mean).

    • RE: Poll: Favorite turn 1 Russian Attack

Depending on the bid of course, but interesting is

      sub vs sub in AZO
2 ftr vs trn, sub in BAL
      8/3 vs Ukr

and maybe 5/1 vs Man (only w/1 inf Kwa bid or less)
ncm the trn to NOR and Germany has a tough task.
