    • RE: Neutral powers

Well I think its okey to sidestep “historically correct” a bit in order to balance the game.
My point was to make neutrals more interesting for CPs to attack. As it is now, you lose 1 inf/IPC gained, meaning you need hold it for 3 turns in order to just break even. And that doesent take into account that you have to use the gained IPC in your capital whereas your loses came from the front…

I do agree that Switzerland should be raized to 6 IPC or something with this new rule.

As most if not everyone agrees CPs need some help in this game. Though I believe the game is a lot closer then some obviously think and therefore only a small change might balance this game.

I was thinking of the true neutral states, why not decrease their army by half and make a rule that only CPs are allowed to attack them (perhaps with the exception of Persia)? As it is now they are complete waste of resourses. But with the change they accuelly would make a nice income boost for CPs.

If the above dont balance the game, On might do the same with all aligned powers, eg when Romania is attacked it only gets 2 inf and 1 art.

      Might work?

    • RE: Ottoman-Austria Crazy Mediterranean and Africa Strategy

Imo the Austians have only one viable option for its navy and that is an A1 attack on the italien navy. The odds are not the austians favor, but if successfull together with a successfull G1 against the royal navy, the French navy has a tough choice where to go.

That plan does not sound very good at all. First off Naval buy in A1 and A2 with 2 BB leaves pratically nothing for ground units. Secondly the allies does not even have to buy naval units to keep up… Allies (F and UK) can move in 3 cruisers and 1 BB in r1, making A2 attack not in your favor. Allies (F and UK) can then move in 2 BBs and another cruiser in r2, making a A3 attack even less in your favor.

Please note that Allies havent even needed to spend a single IPC for this whereas the Austians have spent 48 IPC…

My suggestion is say to  “thank you” if the UK makes such a bad move not to attack TJ UK1 and then go for a A4/G4 overtake of Moscow =)

    • RE: The CP Playbook

I agree Holland is a bad choice, since you need those 2 troops in defence against France r2. Belgium and Poland are the only two landattacks Germany should make r1. I agree that Germany has to wipe out the british Atlantic fleet though.

As for AH, going hard against Russia is a must, but not in the way described above. First of all you need to attack Italy in Venice witha atleast a 10/2 (Inf/Art) and perhaps even a 12/2. Wipe out Rumania with 12/4(or 14/4) and make a 6/2 attack against Serbia (You will get it worst case in r2). Stack all units you can in Galicia, save 4 you wanna move into Trieste.

The AH fleet however is a hard one. In my opinion you wanna make an all out attack against the italiens (at bad odds). Reason is you cant do anything else with it. If you succeed the french will need to use its fleet against AH r1 which means they cant move it into the atlantic against Germany as they would like to.

    • RE: How important is naval warfare in 1914?

Well if you are able as Germany to make Britain use most of its IPC on ships instead of in India its a win imo.

Problem for CP is that Allies have so much more ships at the start so when the allies have assemled, there is no chance CPs can hold their own. If Germany ends up controlling the North sea, the Allies have played extremly bad imo.

Its a pity the navelpowers arent balanced in this game. CP dont stand a chance after a few turns, ie when the allys have moved into place.

      Ottoman Empire
Cant afford to buy a single ship or even if they consider a sub buy they wont make more than a dent in the combined French+Italien+British Navy.

      Austian Navy
Same as the Ottomans. Even with a BS buy they cant sustain when the british move up in support and therefore the BS buy is extremly stupid.
Accually the only viable option for them is to attack the Italien Navy R1 with 1/3 chance to break them. They will of course be crushed by the french, but it will prevent the italiens from moving units from afica to italy/albania r1.

      Germany
Try to trick the british into buy to many ships r1-r2.

    • Holland

Are you attacking Holland with Germany r1?

At first glance it feels like the obvious thing to do, 2IPC with a medium lose of 2 infantry. This means you start gaining if u still hold Holland in the end of turn 4.
However there more to it than that since thoose 2 infantry could and should to mage to case France either 2/3 lost infantry in attack or 1 lost infantry in defense per turn.

    • German navy

I think everyone agrees that keeping UK from going all in or close to all in, in India to the key to victory for CP and therefore forcing them to spend money on ships.

So how do you do that? 2,1 or zero attacks in r1?

No attacks in r1 is obviously out of the question since France will reinforce England with a BS and England can withdraw one seazone making a german r2 attack impossible cause of the extra minefield.

One attack in r1 atleast seems better either taking out a cruiser and a transport with 2 subs (Germany loses one sub in average) or taking out the bulk of the English Navy using all of the German navy, losing in average 1sub and 1/2cruiser and 1/2battleship.
Just doing the 2sub vs 1 crusier means preventing the 2 Canadien units to reach France r1, the navy can still just withdraw one seazone, link up with the french BS and perhaps needing 1 sub to safely defend in r2.
Doing the all out German attack on the main English navy in r1 would leave the british in a tough spot since the Germans would have 3 subs, a damaged BS and with some luck a crusier  left. That would force the british to atleast buy 1BS+1sub r1.

Last scenario means going for 2 attacks against the british. Germans would have (again in average) 1 sub and 1/2 BS left after the attack. The BS would be killed with the french BS though leaving the germans with only one helpless sub. The british would in this scenario only  needs to buy a transports. However when lucky using this tactic, you could have a 1sub and 1 intact BS with Germany which in that somewhat unlikely scenario the british would need to buy atleast 1BS+transports.

In my opinion, going all out on Englands main navy r1 with everything you got is the best option.

      What do you think?
