    • RE: Card Changes

      As usual, Motdc to the rescue. Thanks man!

      It makes total sense why a pill box wouldn’t block line of sight as it is a dug in fortitude. OMG. I can’t WAIT to get this stuff in the mail. I also got the Dornier which is my first German plane to get. What do you guys think is the best plane for me to have German wise? Perhaps 2. One for the tanks and one for troops. ….or perhaps my strategy should be to let the tanks and artillery fight it out amongst one another and have the planes kill troops the whole game.

      Ok Question:

      I’ve just ordered a

      Fuel Depot
      Ammo dump
      and Pill Boxes.

      Do Pill boxes block line of sight. (Becuase they should.)

      and with ammo depots, can you only reroll for the 1’s once a GAME or once per turn, or once per turn, per unit.

      Your help would be greatly apprectiated.

      @Motdc:

      @Obergruppenfuhrer:

      @Motdc:

      Good topic!

      I like your list, though I play 100 pts and still owuldn’t field the Nashorn.  I’ve used the Chaffee before and am glad tp see its got a more reasonable price.

      My answer is:

      #1.  The entire Soviet Army!  With the improvements to the Commisar, you can actually use the Mosin and other Soviet infantry units.

      #2.  The French grenade guy the Lebel whatever, is now a playable unit for hsitorical builds (year and country specific).  Shrapnel lets them take on the 5/5 Infantry, and they throw 4 dice at med VS vehicles.

      #3.  The German Light Mortar was crap before because you had to be at Med range.  It now can reach into long range.

      #4.  The Italian core infantry unit (the one with Bravado) is now an 8/6 I think…that makes the Italians fairly playable.

      In number 4 are you reffering to the 81mm? That thing is ridiculous at 16 hexes with spotter capabilities.

      The original poster was asking about the new units stats that were released last week for all units ever made…and which ones are now finally playable.  For #4, I think the Italin unit Fucio Modello (the stock infantry units) was changed to have better stats, which I feel makes it a playbale unit.  Before, he sucked so bad I wouldnt spend 3 pts on him.

      If you lik the Brummbar, note that they officially added the Sideskirts special ability to it!

      Mot

      Wow. I’m definately happy about that. Right now, we’re just playing with the cards that I have when I started playing 2 years ago. If we get a card for the same unit with different points, then we play with that. Otherwise, everything is : AS IS on the card we currently have. So in other words, I really hope I get another Brummbar and Panzer Ausf 111 g. I can’t wait to use those goliath units. They’re so strange! Was that really happening as of 1939? Germans driving remote controlled cars with a bunch of explosives hooked up? That’s the year on the card and it seems a few years behind it’s time for German technology.

      I just got a couple of those with the spotters (81mm mortars)

      I’m using the SD Kfz “Goliath” the next chance I get. I just got 3 in the mail but they were out of my damn Nershwager or whatever. You know, that rocket salvo launcher for the Germans.

      Another thing is I’ll actually use the German Half tracks now that they aren’t a total rip off.

      I use that little german jeep with a move of 5.

      I LOVE the new 7.5cm artillery piece for Germany. 7 points?? Extended range and it’s a great balance between anti soldier and tank attacks?? I only have one but I wish I had at least 3. That little thing is ridiculous for 7 points.

      I’ll always use the Brummbar in ANY battle.

      I don’t have these revisions yet, but I heard the SS Panzergrenediers went UP 2 points. Screw that with a rusty fork. I shouldn’t complain AT ALL though. As soon as I have all that revised crap figured out: I love that German half tracks are cheap now and the same goes for the Panzer Ausf III g. I love fielding those tanks.

      @U-505:

      OK,

      So now that I have wiped away the Hitler and Churchill shaped stars from everybody’s eyes we can look at them as important historical figures that changed the world and how we look at it now and in the future but NOT Hitler as the leader of the virtually unstoppable hordes of Hell and Churchill as the lone hero standing at Hell’s gate valiantly holding them back. They were highly charismatic and powerful leaders, but both were terribly flawed individuals.

      BUT,

      after FDR, and Hitler, and Stalin, and Churchill, and Reagan, and Archduke Ferdinand, and Lennon (who gets a bad rap here but had a huge impact on the people of his time), and Lenin, and even World War II as a whole are all relegated to historical footnotes in the very distant future, Albert Einstein’s name will still be said with reverence in the hallowed halls of academia and as a sarcastic insult to someone who did something stupid until likely the end of mankind.

      And THAT is all that needs to be said. Except, good day, sirs.

      Oh god. Who isn’t a flawed individual? …and in terms of Eintein’s regognition; the same comparisons will be drawn to Hitler by anyone percieved as a totallitarian nemesis. “Till the end of time” Nice try on the whole “cased closed” caption. Please. It pushed stomach acid to the back of my throat. It stinks of arrogance. “Good day to you sirs” Jesus Christ…. :roll:

      My god I agree with Imperious SO much. That bomber is beautiful. But my favorite is the B-17f. The boys of the 8th and 9th that flew those planes into europe under no fighter escort were brave men and suffered tremendously to prove daylight strategic bombing was key to Allied Victory.

      @Ducky:

      The people around here that play A&AM seem to all play FoW as well, except for me. I hate having to make my own units (paint, glue, etc), the cost of all those Warhammer type games, and the fact it’s more complex. To be fair though, aside from this game, I hate table-top games like D&D or whatever. It’s kind of like how I think it’s cool to play CoD4 online, but think WoW is for dorks…. Flames looks like a decent game, I just don’t get it, I guess.

      Dude that is so funny you mentioin that Ducky. I was a Warhammer FREAK in when I was a kid and MY WHOLE LIFE was painting those damn miniatures before battle. I wanted to do a good job too, so I would sometimes spend 6-9 hours on just one. That’s all I did, paint and play. Oh – and listen the The Doors and Rush while painting (on tape). God I was such a dork!  :-P

      @ABWorsham:

      The He-111’s designers made the mistake in thinking that bombers could fly at fighter speed. The He-111 was an awesome plane in the Spanish Civil War; however the years between that war and the War of 1939 caught up with the He-111.

      I believe the Ju-88 was the first German bomber not built under the cloak of the German ‘Express Air Mail Service’.

      This is very true. We have to remember the beautiful HE-111 was originally a frickin passenger plane hiding under Germany’s cloak of military build up for conversion to bomber.

      I just got my first plane. A japensese Zero. Now if I could only get the Meserschmitt Ace & Stuka plus an ammo & fuel dump, I’d be perfectly happy.

      I do not fully understand the plane rules & I don’t find them explained in depth in the online advanced rules. I’m figuring it out the best of my ability though.

      Yeah – I hope we still see you around. I’m always sad to hear when people can’t find local players.  :-( I only have one person to play with but that’s better than no one. I’ve been so graciously offered by you guys to play online but I’m a little hooked on playing with the actual miniature. It’s kind of funny, like being able to play “army men” as a grown up. I had tons of army men as a kid but this is even better.

      I’m playing with the Japenese for the first time in years today. I have a feeling my 6 win streak is about to come to an end.

    • RE: What is your favorite WWII medium bomber?

      The Mitchell was absolutely a wonderful machine with a nice range, payload and fire power. I can see why it’s winning. I would go so far as to say it’s the best medium bomber of WW2. Being partial to German aircraft, I love the JU-88 becuase it was so manueverable, it was used as a fighter many times. Dubbed “The wonder bomber”, its different variants failed, in my opinion to have adequate defensive guns for most, if not all of the war. It had 2 trainable 7.92 rear firing machine guns, one in the belly gondola and depending on the variant, up to 4 fixed guns in the nose & one fixed or trainable protuding out of the front canopy for a total of up to 5 frontal weapons. It’s a gorgeous plane.

      I think they could have done better. My same opinion stands with the HE-111. The Browning 50 calibur with incinderary and armor piercing rounds had an excellent range and could fire more belt fed rounds in a trainable version as opposed to the 70 round saddle drum used in the 7.92.

      I love the Ju-88 and 87 for their accuracy in bombing. Germany believed in dive bombers fanatically. I would go so far as to say the JU-87 Stuka was the best ground support bomber of the entire war because of it’s ability to work in such close proximity with friendly units.

      @Jermofoot:

      Gotta agree on the B-25.  I read a book a couple of years ago but don’t remember exactly what it was called, but it was good.  Wasn’t it the most prevalent US bomber or something?

      And what distinction is made between a medium and heavy bomber?  Payload?

      I would say payload is one of the main things. Also, most all bombers considererd “heavies” were four engine planes at that time.

      My “other bomber” would be the Memphis Belle.

      See that IS MY FIRST CHOICE. My ALL TIME FAVE is the B-17f. But that’s a heavy bomber.

      He-111 best looking bomber around. I love the profile of that ship.

      Oh I know!! I freaking love the look of that thing. Too bad they really didn’t update it as well as they could have. That thing should have been bristling with better machine guns. I was building a model of it but gave up for now. The cockpit alone took me almost 2 months. Arrrr!
