      special forcesS

      i think that was pretty specific!  :-D

      In general:
      as Axis: be agressive, don’t waste time.
      As Allies: start defensive and don,'t rush things.
      As both: don’t stack! (well, UK is allowed)

      Actually i’d advize to play a few times before you have a look at what others do.

      As France, submit to the British player, who needs to coordinate with you.

      Don’t think so, the British player submits to us first, then we’ll talk.  :-D

      @Keredrex:

      I would say Russia…

      It is very true that Russia only has to worry about a few territories and doesn’t have a lot of buying opportunities. However, Russia is a tactical nightmare for anyone who wants tan easy game… Don’t expect to gain a lot of ground much less win as Russia unless you have REALLY good Allies. They also have a terrible income… But as Keredrex said, you only have to buy land units pretty much.

      For simplicity’s sake, yes Russia is easiest. But from a tactical/“winning”/strategy standpoint, it’s pretty hard.

      McLovin, that is probably one of the funniest posts i’ve read on this board. I’d add that perhaps Nutbar should put a few pieces in Switzerland and the Sahara; that should be helpful.

      I play without technology spring 42 and I typically lose to strategic planner (I typically play as the allies). I really need strategies and advice. if you have strategies or advice, please post them here

      I voted the DD, it is the backbone of every defensive or mixed fleet.

      The CC imho is the least usefull unit, but still has some use in large fleets. The question always is, why buy a CC and a DD with 20 IPC when the same money can get you a BB. Well, the answer is fleet volume.
      When playing Dice, you can get lucky or unlucky. But, no matter how lucky you get, one BB will only get you one hit (in att or def) while one CC and one DD, if you are lucky, will get you two hits. So, for every second BB I buy, I prefer adding some pure volume in my fleets by bying a DD and a CC.

      Another equivalent is to buy 2 SS and one DD, but when def is a primary concern and volume is needed, 2 SS are no more than fodder, given the attacker will have a DD (or else his air hits won t be assigned on the SS, and they will be useless even for fodder…).

      The optimum setup for a mixed fleet (for example a US2 pacific fleet aiming for south pacific in US3) is 4 SS, 3 DD, 1 CC, 2 AC loaded, 1 BB, 2 TT (carrying 4 inf). Total IPC cost 82 (buy US1 2 AC, DD, SS, US2 1 ftr, 1 TT+1 inf, 2 SS, DD).

      There is no “best” land unit. There are land units with different uses.

      -When you want to defend actively, you want mostly infantry while having some attack units (which one depends on the kind of front that you are defending) to stop your opponent from going forward with a big stack.
      -When you are all-out defense you want only infantry.
      -When you are attacking you want a mix of attacking units and infantry, yes an attack as a bigger win% with the right mix of inf/tanks then with just tanks (there was a very nice post earlier explaining this for people who’d doubt).
      -When you are all-out attacking well yes you’d want only tanks the only right scenario for that is blitzing Russia early with Germany and it necessites some prerequisites to be a fine option (in my own opinion, I know a good player who doesn’t agree with me there, depends on the play style I guess)

      So in a nutshell, the most needed unit is definitely the infantry, but I wouldn’t say it is the “best” unit because it seems too much of a specific case question (although if you’d tell me that you’ll give me 20 bucks just to shut up and answer the question, I’d go with infantry).

      there was a Historical version of Revised online for tournaments or something.
      in that version they also had rules for adding Italy, to make 6 players.

      also the turn order became…

      in the 1st round………
      Russia, then Both Axis players (Also Italy if played) taking there turn together as one (Each phase done together),
      then US & UK also taking there turn together

      every round after……… the Axis (together), then the Allies (Together).

      very interesting way to play. unfortunately i never got to play this version so i dont know how well it worked.  And I dont know how it would work for 1942.

      I remember When they added Italy they made Germany itself worth 20 IPC’s,  Italy started with 12 and controlled Southern Europe (which was split into Italy & S. Europe), Balkans, Algieria.  there were other changes to the map as well.

      I think it would be interesting if you had any ideas on different country combos, even different time periods, perhaps a House Rule ‘Cold War’ game or something in that nature, but I do agree with Keredrex, the game was definently designed to have 5 players and has been well set up for balance.

      @PhilFromIT:

      I just pick this up last week and after about 5 games I can say yes. I would warn them however that playing the Allies takes a lot of tactics and maneuvering!

      -Phil

      There definitely is a learning curve for the allies.

      @nutbar:

      it is so unfair that germany gets to go before UK because Strategic Planner usually invades UK. should i insist on uk and ussr go before germany? would USSR and UK going first then germany help or hurt the allies and would it help or hurt the axis?

      Germany can only invade with 2 land units and planes in the 1st turn… thats not enough to conquer UK unless you Miss all your AA gun shots, and All your Unit defenses on the 1st cycle of defense dice rolls, and Miss again on your all your defenses in the 2nd Cycle of dice rolls.
      … germany can only send … 1 inf., 1 Tank, 1 Bomber, 2 Fighters.  UK has 2 Inf., 1 Art., 1 Tank, 2 Fighters, 1 Bomber, and the AAgun gets a shot at Each plane.

      now if you mean on the 2nd turn … then that means UK goes before germany invades… if you see he buys transports and moves units in range of attack… then when you go with UK you will need to Buy units so you can Defend the Homeland.  and USA can send some units if need be, like a fighter, or land units if you absolutely need them.  chances are he wont be able to invade on the 2nd turn with that build up on Britain

      strategic planner usually invades london. how do i deal with london being invaded? do i attack it or leave it alone?

      You need to liberate any capitol that falls to the axis… If you let them get that money AND build in the capitol chances are you will lose the game…
      UNLESS you possibly took one of the axis capitols as well.   for example… If Germany takes Russia or UK, and By chance Japan was taken by USA.  then its still a decent fight for either side for victory.

      Yeah this is an example, but it’s AA50

      I would say no for this version of the game… but there are some house rules out there and some other tournament games where it is allowed, check those.  in this version its probably too complicated, We have used the Joint Strike Advantage in thos game where US uses both his and UK’s units in an attack, works ok as a one time option… but the rules state it must be declared during russia turn so Germany gets to prepare for it.
