      @Black_Elk:

      I don’t see the point of having any territory at zero IPCs.

      If its on the map, it should be worth at least 1

      I rather see a lot of spots worth zero IPCs, after all a lot of Africa was not really worth much industrial production at all.  It was more of Italy trying to remake the Roman Empire.

      Honestly I think Africa needs to have over twice the amount of areas and those extra areas should be worthless.  Africa is the second biggest continent, yet I can transport tanks and units accross it very quickly.  I rather see it become more divided, and the sahara removed.  With more zones going south just waste time and be point less unless you are trying to out move your enemy.

      I agree there could be more pieces for the game, espically other units.  Perhaps optional units and rules.  I could easily see AH make more money off selling extra optional packages or add ons to the game, then from profit just from game sales.

      The map comes in 3 pieces so the following is possible:
      1. Extra Optional Map pieces.  Perhaps to even allow for a WW1 set up of the game.  Just use 2 sections of the map, or something.
      2. Different section maps for different start up times.

      Plus having extra units could allow for more game flexability and replay value.

      I think the best type of playtesting really is just to get a bunch of people who have never played Axis and Allies before, or are just regular people who might only play once or twice a year.  It is easy to understand a game and to play it in weird ways if you are already fimilar with how it works and functions to a high degree.  But to have nobodies play it would do the following:
      1. Make it so that the rules are easy to understand and comprhend, not like Battle of the Buldge which I do not know of anyone who truly understands how to play it.
      2. Will make the set up more balanced and correct, as nobodies would pretty much be playing the game in a way that common sense seems to dictate as the best strategy, or the strategy that seems to be the best from having to think things out for a few mintues.

      But that is just my experience with things.  Give it to the least experienced and least knowledgable on the topic or area, and if they cannot understand it or use it in a way that shows there to be something wrong or confusing, then you need to correct it.

      As for the new format of having a CD game.  It would be nice and great, but there is also still the nice aspect of being able to play a game in front of live people face to face, and getting those nice little plastic units.

    • RE: Italy + SBR = destruction?

      Meh, if Italy takes Africa and can hold it, the game will be very hard for the allies.  Basically you then have a weakened UK, and two strong central European powers that would be able to take on Russia easily.  And if the US goes after Germany, Japan is going to have a free hand in China.  While China does provide some restiance, it will be the question of is there enough time for the allies to make a move, before China falls.

    • RE: Different Rules for IPC.

      I am using this rule.  Makes sense to me, and is easy to follow:

      No player may produce more units than his or her total IPC collection plus ten infantry.  For example, if a player collects 40 IPCs, that player may not have more than 40 units and 10 infantry on the map.  If a player ends up having more units than what he or she collects in IPCs then the player is restricted from building new units during that turn.  In addition, the player is restricted from building new units until the total unit count is below the IPC count plus the ten infantry.

      If you make a copy of the map available i can provide some input on this.

      Check the message that I sent you on the forum.

      Anyhow, now that college is coming to an end for the semester, I shall have time to test out the map and come up with a set up sheet and all.  It is a good thing I work at a business where there is a big ploting machine, so I can print maps from it at little to no cost.

      Anyhow back to the point.  Plan on testing it out hopefully, and finding a balance which makes the game fun to play.

      Infantry still need supplies.  It is called Jeeps, Trucks, food, clothing, and such.  The soldiers just did not march accross the land.  They had vechicals to move.

    • RE: Different Rules for IPC.

      @Cmdr:

      I’d actually come to the conclusion that the best way to go would be that a nation collects income for the land they own at the start of their turn (less any economic damage incurred between their last mobilization phase and their new collection phase).

      This means that no one could collect for the same land in any game turn that someone else already collected for it.  This would result in less IPC in the banks of the nations then total land value, which would make sense given that war torn areas do not produce as well as peaceful areas!

      So yes.  Germany may get Egypt on Round 1, but if England liberates it, Germany never gets to collect for it. (Neither does England if Germany takes it back on Round 2.)

      That does not elimate the problem of someone being able to just stack up units.  Resources should not be unlimited in that since.  For example, a player who can have at most 10 tanks, due to the areas he or she controls, would make that person manage their resources more.

    • Different Rules for IPC.

      After playing Axis and Allies for hours.  I came to hate the fact that a side can produce an infinite amount of units yet, the world consists of a finitate amount of resources.  Hence I devised a new system to counter this problem, which actually stops stacking and prevents build ups.

      Idea 1: Triple the IPC amount of every place.  Each unit requires 1 IPC maintance at the start of a player’s turn.  Hence if a person only makes 24 IPCs, they can only have 24 units.  Conquered land only provides 1/3 of face IPC value.

      Idea 2: Each place is given stats such as, a number.  This is the number of a certain type of units that the space provides to the player.  For example:  Place X can support 3 Infantry Units and 1 Armor.  Place Y can support 1 Fighter and 4 Infantry.  The player’s biggest force can only be 7 Infantry, 1 Armor, and 1 Fighter.

      Now idea 2 in my opinion is the best idea.  It actually requires that a player must manage his or her resources and that things are not unlimited.  Of course you need to set aside perhaps 5 open slots that perhaps allow a player to have 5 units of their choosing in addition to the maximum amounts they can have.  But in general I think this idea makes the game more realistic and fun, and someone cannot just build up 30 Battleships or a huge infantry stack of 30 and march in.  Makes managing your resources more of a concern and makes you have a diverse army.

      @Imperious:

      Id say 3 more for Soviets and 4 more for Italy. get ideas from AARHE if you have too. Then they all have 10 choices.

      Yes I could make them all have ten.  But I perfer to balance out the total cards for the Axis and the Allies to be even.  The cards are just meant to add a sense of randomness to the game, hence making it more dynamic.  Some sides will just run out of cards before other players do.  This in a sense adds strategy, as one may not want to play the cards right away since they do not know what the enemy has, and the fact that the person may still have more to draw.

      @Nuclear:

      As for the rules, I am still typing them up.  Should have a good handle on those soon.  Very similar to traditional Axis and Allies rules.  So should be easy to understand.

      So its going to be a standalone document?

      If there aren’t many changes you can just reference LHTR. Saves you lots of time.

      I never use LHTR Rules.  I am not a fan of those and perfer not to use them.

      Ever since I got a new computer, a lot of my files have been scattered when I transfered them over.  The map file is 100% intact, the other things like rules and what not are in pieces all over the place.

      There are cards, different values for units.  For example, tanks take 2 hits to destroy.  Elite Units with the use of black chip to indicate as such.  Italy is in the game, the convoy routes.  America’s Job to finance the war.  New use for AA Gun.  Nolonger AA Gun, but AA Unit.  Different order of conducting a turn.  Infantry can be built anywhere rule unless it is occupied area not of your color.

      There are enough differences to warrant a complete new rule set.  Not to mention the addition of weather.

      As for set up charts.  I still have to find myself some free time to print the map out and figure out what the starting units should be to make the game balanced.

      @Bluecoat1861:

      (First post for this newbie so i hope you all go easy on me :-D )

      Has anyone done  rules or map for an expanded (sub Sahara) Africa in AAE game? I know for the most part part the war was over in this part of the world by mid-1941 but games with 39, 40 and early 41 scenarios would be greatly aided with there inclusion, espically if your playing with France and Italy.

      I did create a game for this.  It is called Battle of the North Altantic (not sure if I spelled Altantic Right)  Anyhow it should be on the forums here somewhere.  Check the Variants or House Rules section.

      String Theory
      M Theory
      Quantum Foam
      Unified Field

      Lets have FUN with this discussion!

      String Theory - Currently losing out.  Even though it would make sense the simpliest thing would be a one dimensional thing.  The theory itself still have too much to try and prove.

      M Theory never heard of this.

      The other two never heard of.
