    • Japanese on Box

      I don’t know if anyone here knows Japanese, but I’ve noticed a strange thing on the game box.

      To the right of “Guadalcanal”, the same thing is written vertically in Japanese.  However, it is written in a strange way.  Normally the island’s name is written in the katakana phonetic script like this: ガダルカナル.  However, on the box the first symbol “ga” has been replaced with the kanji character 餓 which has the same pronunciation, but also has the meaning “hunger”.

      This seems like a typo, although it would have actually been easier to get it right.
      Perhaps the Japanese navy had an alternate spelling for the island during the war?

    • RE: Tricky question

      @Amon:

      Look on the top left menu and click “game” then “enable edit mode”

      No such option exists under the game menu.  Is there another way to do this?

      @Amon:

      if you want to delete units, then just go to the edit button, which is next to stats, territory…

      and then select your units,  a ˝remove selected units˝ button will higlight, press on it, and the units are deleted

      I’m not sure that we are using the same program.  Take a look, there is no edit tab (http://triplea.sourceforge.net/screen/battle.png).  Perhaps this feature was removed in newer versions?

    • Manchuria Convoy?

      Does Japan need to control the Shantung convoy (SZ 37) in order to collect IPCs for from Manchuria?  Perhaps they only need to control EITHER this or the Korea convoy?  I ask because it would seem strange if near the end of the game Japan were blockaded from Korea and Shantung but continued to recieve IPCs from Manchuria.

      I suppose I could ask the same question about Siam as well.  Does Japan need the FIC convoy to collect from Siam?

    • RE: Rules Question - Subs and Sneak attack

      Only attacking subs get the first strike ability. (p.33 of the rulebook)

      Heya,

      I’ll try my hand at this I think.

      First, attacking subs get their “first strike” in every round of combat (unless a Destroyer is defending).  They would be pretty crap if they could only fire once.

      Second, don’t forget that transports are not defenseless.  They defend on a roll of one.  It’s only when attacking that transports don’t fire.

    • RE: A&AP Statargies: What do you want to do for each country

      Are those IPCs in the form of free units placed on the board at the start of the game or IPC cash to be spent later?  I suppose either way most of that goes into Indian ground troops.

    • Industrial Complexes in Brown Spaces

      The official faq says this

      "Where can Industrial Complexes be built?

      Only the US can build ICs, and they can only be built in territories that are blue (US) or brown (Japanese) AND under US control."

      This means the US can build them in Siam, FIC, Ryukyu Is, Bonin Is, Shantung, Manchuria, and Korea.

      My question is whether or not Shantung, Manchuria, and Korea are “liberated” back to China and therefore not eligible for ICs.  The manual does say that these are Chinese territory under Japanese control at the start of the game.

      So when America moves troops into one of these spaces does it gain the IPC value and ability to build an IC there or not?

      Finally, can America take control of brown territories controlled by allies (presumably with consent)?  For instance, if India or China has taken already control of FIC, can the US drop land troops there, claim America now has jurisdiction, and start taking the IPCs/building complexes?

      These are somewhat obscure questions, but any input would be appreciated.
