    • RE: Russia to Norway R1 ?

      Hey NP,
I was talking about the taking of Norway by Russia on R1 if there is a second sub in the atlantic.  Having Norway that eliminates the possibility of the UK battleship, transport, and Russian sub from being sunk.(no runway for bomber/figher).  The economics are much better.
CONS;  Germany can easily take out the tank/fighter(tank in Norway, fighter in Karelia)15ipcs

PROS;  UK’s fleet is floating, 32ipc’s + the Russian Sub can still block later on in the game.
Another huge pro is that the bid is pretty much wasted. The sub now has to perform          a  secondary  function.  The intended target(UK battleship) is safe.

What if Germany puts a sub in the Atlantic with a bid of 8?

In that case I think the second Russian fighter is worth it…

The longer it’s feasible to hold Norway the better it is for Axis(an abvious point)

The “traditional” buy of 1 ACC on G1 (then reinforce Norway) allows you keep 3 IPC’s away from UK’s economy and you dont have to spend units to take it back on G2. Besides,  you can always move out the same way you moved in. VIA trns for INF and through Kariela with ARM.

    • RE: Norway

Heres an idea…what if you REINFORCE Norway…take Karelia. Than on NCM move the ARM from eastern into Norway.  Also bridge over a second ARM  and a 4th INF.  Then land 3 FIGS there as well.

Benefits: Uk doesnt get its 3 IPC boost.
Fighters are still in range of SZ 12 and Russian terroritories.
As a staging point Noway is just as close to West Russia as Eastern is.
      Any thoughts?

    • RE: Another off the wall, unproven, untested idea

how bout this to slow down japan; r1      6inf, 1 fig in bury.
uk1    sub on sub in salomon(even fight, for 1 rnd then submerge)
trns to sz west of salomon (new guniea i think)
ac, des, fig to kill tranny off kwangtung( fighter land in bury)
tranny to block east indies fleet in boreo(or philipienes which ever im not in front of aboard)
                                                                2 figs west can
bom to sinkiang or west can(different ranges, both spots have advantages)

the purchases will be dependent on need(uk might need a big stack of inf to prevent losing london)
so jap now has slow down issues( icant wait to hear what is said about this one)

    • RE: Can the US have naval superiority?

the key to the success of the american fleet is what the uk does with the raf on r1… if you move the fig’s and bom to w. can than on jap 1 decisions become much more difficult… of course the uk boats have  to follow suit as wel… the uk can put alot of pressure can  put on sz 60 and 59 on r1 this gives the us time to commission its fleet while jap is some what on its heels… russias contribution is to reinforce buriatia on r1

the 5 trannies for two turns trick can only work after at least 3 three turns of establishing a large number of land units in Europe forgot to mention that part

    • RE: German focus?

i personally like 2 rounds of straight transports…ger buys 5 trns one round tricks the uk into thinking the attack is coming then buys 5 more the turn after…this very situational because it involves a certain amount of cockyness on the part of the allies.  what i mean to say is after the  first 5 trns are on the board the us player doesnt buy units to reinforce the uk  because with only 7 total tns i appears that the uk can easily be defended on its own…but with 12 trns…plus its now too late for the us to send defenders…if this move is pulled off people tend to get REALLY pissed…

so your not a fan of the ‘stafing’ tactic in ukr? to me that seems to make more sense(or belorussia)

    • RE: East or west?

thats a whole other can of worms…you would leave your rus arm in ukr to take out a single fig? if so then ger has to go with 1 ac, 1 fig, 1 arm, 3 inf on r1. with the dead tanks russia looks alot less of a threat.

      oops that was a mistake…anyway to continue…
                                                                        2 subs 16
                                                                        1 trn    8    net 62ipcs

so anywho so the difference in loss of ipcs is 34…couple that with fact that that uk navy, 1st round buy, and 2/3s of the air force gone germany has bought itself tons of breathing room to clean up norway, egypt, ect next round and still march toward moscow with inf and art  purchases… also med fleet still alive

    • RE: East or west?

thanks for the links…yeah the uk bs in the med is toast(with the ger bs there the sub will almost always live and it frees up a fighter) +  germany has got 6 figs to into the fleet with so yah 1 splashes in the english channel…thats if it doesnt get shot down 1st(this senario more likely) so the uk loses:1 bs 24 ipcs        vs ger    1 ac 16
                                                      1 ac 16                          1 des 12
                                                      1 des 12                        1 fig
                                                      2 fig 20
                                                      2 trns 16

    • RE: East or west?

again true but theres always a catch…with germanys starting units + 1 ac vs the uk starting + fleet loaded ac, des, and rus sub included that should be wiped in 2 rounds with losing 1 or 2 figs.  that sets the uk back big time and accomplishes something with the baltic fleet that normally wouldnt get done.  so my initial question remanis… is it still better to send the med fleet east?
without the presence of the bs at the mouth of the med your baltic fleet is gonna be in real touble real quick… i hate losing the baltic fleet and not taking anything down with it…

$2 for jap gives you 4 trn or 2trn 1ac also quite good against kjf
