    • RE: Best way to sneak up on UK

if germany is gonna spent 24ipc’s on 3trs on r1 why not make it 32 and go for acarrier and 2trns?

proceed with the fleet merger threat and then hold the allies off even longer…

the senarios described basically force a kgf anways…if kjf is tried the tnrs will help expediate the movement of r2 purchases through karielia and the transports can STILL be filled on g2 with the units in WE and left over cash.

    • RE: Good way of delaying Japan/getting Japan under some cheap pressure.

if pear harbour is not attacked than on us2 there will be 3 stacked carrier’s, 1 bb, 1des, 2subs, 1 trns in solomon ils.

    • RE: Best way to sneak up on UK

      US1 has only 42ipc’s to spend…3 bom=45ipcs…

also to backtrack a little… if both uk and us lose their trn on rd2 than with africa, germany is offsetting the delay of not purchasing(as many) ground units on g1.
in this case blocking in SZ12 and taking algeria might not be the best option

on a side note i dont see the point in 2trns i think you gotta go for three.(or a carrier)

    • RE: Attacking Ukraine

id say it depends more on how many units are left in wru and in cau/ukr.  did russia strafe ukr? if they did then attacking wru could be really bad for ger… ive often considered hitting wru on g1 but i always feel it leaves germay too over extended

so heres the million dollar question then…how much force is required to be left in wru in order for it not to be ‘broken’ what i mean to say is what is the tipping point for forgoing the battle ship and egypt. there are many factors to consider.  Keep in mind the uk battleship can always be taken with existing navy only.

    • RE: Yakut

i disagree, with a properly executed kjf then uk can wait to build the ic in ind. probably  uk 3 is the best timing. this gives you the ability to set up a convoy into norway/africa to ensure the ger ipc count get out of control

i cant seem to stay away from the 3inf 1 arm 1fig buy on r1 i feel that there are just too many benefits of a 3rd fig on r2

that was the greatest soapbox ride ive seen in a long time

but in all fairness to LHTRv1.3 if you use the recommened charts and only use 1 die to determine NA’s “some”…NA’s are not over powering at all

Russia isnt gonna ‘be offensive’ The only thing russia is gonna do is make sure ger buys a ACC on G1

                                                              6inf(rus)  2fig(1rus,1uk)

    • RE: Yakut

an even better open is 6 inf 1 fig in bury…that leads to a very strong kjf(dont send the 4 inf to yakut they will be needed on the western front.  R1 purchase; 1 fig, 1arm, 3 inf
combat move; belo 3 inf 1 fig
west russia; 7 inf 2 art 2-4 arm depending on if you think cauc is defendable (probably is)

    • RE: Attacking Ukraine

what about the attack/retreat option in ukr? there are some benefits to that move as well.  ukr is definitly the more strategic position of the two(ukr/belo) and by not attacking ukr on r1 than you are potentially giving up the ability to trade that terroritory.  with smart german play that is.

    • RE: Worst Case for Germany

“Not bad.  Kill the DD in Sz 15 with ftrs right?”

      Im not sure you can…
This plan relies on all your planes to be in range of SZ 12 in order to minimize your losses against the allied boats. So that destroyer will most likely stay floating. Unfortunately…

Like I said, your gonna have a tough fight for Egypt. If your dice dont turn around its better not to prolong the agony.

    • RE: Worst Case for Germany

In this case I think you might have to rely on your dice G1.  If you have 1 extra INF in Libya send the med fleet west(Egypt is gonna be tough).  You know he’s gonna go to SZ12 great! Make him pay for Algeria.  Have you airforce in range as well as BBS, SUB, TRN then you can send his atlantic fleet to the bottom easily.  A buy of 1ACC, 1FIG, 1 TRN +INF will simultaneously shut down the atlantic and force the UK to go defensive.  Then turn you attention to those pesky Russians. Unfortunatly you now have to play D on the eastern front. Â

    • RE: Russia to Norway R1 ?

Hey Guys, a couple of comments…

      1. Yes,russia will be down a fighter. But if you build a fighter on R1 then you have recoved the lost fighter that has to land in Karelia.
a R1 buy of fig, arm, 3 inf will allow for 2 spaces to be traded. (Karelia,Ukraine/Bellorussia) Im not sure Russia can afford to be trading more than 2 zones anyways. NP your points about it being much easier for 2inf 1fig are correct. I hate having to attack 1inf with 1inf,1art(see it fail too many times)

      2. Norway can easily be defended against 2 trns let alone 1.  With a defense in Norway of: 3figs(1from WE, 1from EE, 1from NOR), 2arm(1bridged, 1 from EE), 4 INF(3 starting, 1bridged). That makes a G1 attack of Norway a very uphil battle.

I love holding Norway for as long as its feasible.  Keeps 3 IPCs out of UKs pocket. Puts pressure on the SZ to the north west of UK.  And also lets you stage just as close to most of Russias holdings as EE would.

    • RE: Russia to Norway R1 ?

      Hey Jen,
Your still missing my point.  If you place a sub in the Atlantic with the Axis bid of 8( i forget which SZ it is but its just south of England and starts with 1 sub in it already)  Then those numbers you just posted change dramatically.

      The engagement is now as follows;

Germany attacker:  2 subs, 1 fig, 1 bom
                            vs
      UK/Russia defenders: 1 bat, 1 trn, 1 sub(russian)

If Im not mistaken(Idont have a die simulator) the most probable outcome of that battle is Germany flies its planes out safely, hence the need for Norway to be in Russian hands at the start of G1.

    • RE: Russia to Norway R1 ?

How is UK going to take Norway?  On UK1 only 1 trn is in the Atlantic. also Norway is where the figter/bomber landed so you can assume Germany would leave INF there as cover.  Without HMS Hood the Royal Navy is screwed for a long time.  The Russian Fighter is the sacrifice.
