    • RE: The FAQ Thread

      Hi,

The Lightning War rule states that « Once per game, and prior to January 1941, all German land and air units may make an additional sequence of combat moves, combat (including blitz) and non-combat movement. The second round of attacks takes place immediately after the end of the first non-combat movement. Units with blitz may use this ability both rounds if possible ».

I would tend to say that no matter if the alignment of Iraq takes place after the first or second combat round these units were not yours during the first round of attack and so were not « German land units » for the purpose of the special ability.

A case could be made to the contrary, but it seems a bit OP to move these newly acquired units right away.

    • RE: Questions on the outcome of Spanish Civil War

In the v3 Strategy notes it is mentionned that an Axis victory in the SCW is worth “… (b) 1 IPP for Germany for approximately 12 turns, depending on when World War II starts”.

What does this refer to ?

@insanehoshi said in The FAQ Thread:

      On Lend Leasing.

Are you able to lend lease special units, ie Katyushas, SMLF, USMC?

Normally you are allowed to build 2 of each special force per turn. If you build two, are you able to lend lease a third?

I don’t think that these are adressed specifically in the rules, but :

      • The definition of lend-lease in the Glossary (0.9) is a system in which you “produce units for other nations”, so only the build table of the producing Power is relevant and there is no restriction on lend-leasing special units. This is one of the interesting aspects of lend-lease to allow powers to acquire units that they normally could not (see also the Player note on Page 33). This allows the USSR to lend-lease fighters to the CCP, for instance.

      • The “Max 2 of each type per turn” on the NRS makes no distinction based on where that special unit will be going, so your are limited to producing two per turn, either for personal use or lend-lease. Remember that lend-lease is also declared in the Production Phase (7.9). See this as limited ressources for training and producing special forces, so giving one unit away does not magically increase your production capacity.

    • RE: Are We Forced to Place Units from the Production Chart?

Rule 11.1 posted by GHG above is the general rule regarding placement of units : You place all your units except if the rules prevent you from doing so (generally production limits on Factory capacity).

Rule 7.3 is a specific rule for Multi-Stage production. You are not obligated to advance production every turn and even when you reach the last stage you are not obligated to place it.

This seems to be the way to conciliate both rules.

Otherwise the sentences “If you cannot place a unit for any reason it remains on the Production Chart until a later turn” (11.1) and “You may postpone the placement of units in the place units box if desired” (7.3) do contradict themselves.

Hi, I got this expansion, but once the Finnish forces are in place at the setup, it seems almost overwhelmingly difficult for the USSR to consider attacking there. It’s just too scary…

Maybe to rule could be a bit clearer but mountains stay mountains at all phases of the game.

I have always played with the movement restrictions during non-combat also.

    • RE: Questions on the outcome of Spanish Civil War

@theveteran said in Questions on the outcome of Spanish Civil War:

@unicorn in the regular SCW expansion if USSR (Republicans) wins the war then they get a chance to influence 3 different countries (the chance is very low) and they do not get a free infantry unit every turn.

I understood the SCW expansion as adding to the core rules and not replacing them completely.

There is also an explicit reference in SCW 1.3 to the normal rules « The Spanish Civil War is over
when (a) one side achieves victory per GW13.1 ».

Getting that free International Brigade in Moscow was one of the incentives for the USSR to invest part of its very limited budget towards the civil war.

If it is out of the expansion, I will probably keep house ruling it in.

    • RE: Paint Recommendations?

Tamiya has some colors that are a fairly good match. Here are some that I used :

HBG Yellow-Green (KMT) - Tamiya Yellow Green XF-4
HBG Yellow (Nat. Spain) - Tamiya Flat Yellow XF-3
HBG Light Grey (Bulgaria/Turkey) - Tamiya Royal Light Gray XF-80

For Dutch Orange, CCP Red, and Plum for Spain, I used Premier or Painter’s Touch spray cans from the hardware store.

I did not need to paint anything in Light Blue as HBG has all the Free France units that you may need (and more), I believe, except maybe for a single TBD.

The best thing is to bring some miniatures to the store and match as best you can with the color cap on the can or bottle.

Yes, in the victory conditions, Eritrea is all the Abyssinian need to win this conflict. So, it’s a two-territory theater of war.

    • RE: Fortifications on shorelines

Good question, but first can they be placed on a sea border ?

Rule 12.7 states that « Fortifications are placed on a border of a land zone and protect from attacks accross that border ».

I may be wrong but I understood this to mean a land border with another territory.

Compare to Coastal Artillery that is placed « along a land/sea zone border to Defend against Amphibious Assaults » (rule 12.9).

My understanding was that Fortifications protected from land attacks and Coastal Artillery from Amphibious Attacks. Again, maybe a wrong assumption on my part.

However, the rule of Special Fortification Zones (12.8) mentions both Fortifications and Coastal Artillery and includes some islands, so for this to make sense they must have some use there also… unless the fortification only protects the island from Airborne assaults ?

    • RE: Militia questions

On the third question, since the general rule is that militia may only move within a Major Power’s home country, I think that they cannot move within Spain since it is not a Major power, regardless of the fact the it could be considered home country (rule 11.5 states that recruited militia should be placed in a Minor Power’s home country, so even if not defined for lack of a NRS, Minor Power seem to have home countries also).

The same goes for the fourth question. These are aligned Minor Powers, not Major Powers and even if the militia is replaced by the controlling Major Power’s units it is still not in the Major Power’s home country.

    • RE: Diplomacy Expansion Rule Clarification

I think this wording is mainly in contrast with the effect of positions 1 and 2 :

(1-2) “Any Minor Power attacked at this position will automatically align with the Major Power reflected.” (i.e. on the Diplomacy Chart a the time of this attack) vs (3) “Nations at position 3 are no longer able to be influenced and are guaranteed support if attacked.”

The important difference with position 3 is that their status is « locked in » and will no longer change during the course of the game once reached. I do not think that « guarateed support » changes the meaning of the rules except to say that you do not need to worry about another Major Power influencing them back.

For the consequences of control/alignment, Section 4 (National Relations) in the core rulebook still applies.

    • RE: FEC income when Calculta is occupied

I am not sure if your question takes into account the Errata :

      Far East Command Reference Sheet:
      Home Country:

Add: “If Calcutta is conquered, FEC loses its possessed IPP, but may continue to build units in other land zones.” (Page 1, Applied to v3.4)

Losing Calcutta and the possessed IPP would not prevent the Collect income phase (11.6) from the remaining territory for future turns. There is no need for a new capital. The immediate IPP loss only applies to Calcutta.

    • RE: Optional rule 10,2 “reinforcement of captured bases”

Optional Rule 10.2 is in the non-combat section.

During non-combat, you land the aircraft that took part in combat (10.3) and can move aircraft that did not (10.1), so both options would be available.

    • RE: Can Militia Be Built From Factories?

Of course, they do not require a factory, but can be built in any land zone, even in a territory containing a factroy

However, I think that normal restrictions would still apply, even if you have a factroy (number per turn up to IPP value, min. 1. Max 1 in captured land zones).

    • RE: Strategic Bomber question.

While not explicitely stated in the rules, Airborne Assault is a special kind of combat move (9.15), so you have to choose what your Strategic Bomber will do.

It could also Strategic Bomb (9.16) or Carpet Bomb (9.17), but it cannot do more that one type of combate during the same turn.

On a logistical side, if you fill the airplane with paratroopers, you will not have room for bombs and vice-versa.
