    • RE: Advanced Technology Models Requirements By Country

Considering that some players may adopt different tech strategies and that lend-lease allows the lending nation to give its advanced units to the receiving nation, in theory, all combinations are possible.

In practice, let’s just say you don’t see much lending advanced battleships or carriers to Free France or CCP…

It’s all a question of do you want to cover every possibility or only what will be used more often?

For what it’s worth, I would prioritize having:

Germany: advanced artillery, advanced mobile artillery, advanced mechanized infantry, SS Panzergrenadiers, Heavy armor, advanced subs

USSR: adv. artillery, Katyusha rocket, adv. mech, heavy armor. Maybe jet fighters

GB: adv. artillery, adv. mobile artillery, attack transports. Maybe jet fighters or heavy bombers

      USA: all adv. units

France, Italy and Japan have so little research power and will usually prioritize techs that do not require miniatures such as Wartime Economy or Long-range aircraft. If I had to pick one, probably adv artillery would get some use.

Other players may feel differently about some picks. That’s part of the fun of this game. Everything is possible.

    • RE: East USA ship movement in the atlantic.

      Hello @GeneralHandGrenade.

Changing one restriction raises a few other questions. Just to be clear:

Now all US ships must end movement near US land zones, not only in the Pacific?

Escort duty is allowed at 35 IPP, but rule 9.11 specifies « surface warships ». So the US can’t take naval transports along, right?

Can the US move its naval transports along with its warships for naval combat within 2 sea zones of US est coast at 50 IPP ?

Can this 50 IPP move be done only during combat move, if there are actual German or Italian ships to engage, or also as a preventive measure during non-combat?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Terrain Legend

There is no legend on the map or in the rulebook.

Mountains are obvious, Desert terrain is the small dots, Jungles are the five leaf palm trees (ex. Burma), Marshes use broken lines (ex. Pripet Marshes) , Tundra is the green, orange and white camo pattern in the North of the map.

On my v.3 map, Eritrea looks like desert.

    • RE: Target Selection vs Excess Transport Capacity

Yes, rule 9.6 says that naval transports must be chosen last as casualties unless the Attacker applies Target selection.

He can choose to target the transport carrying the armor, but you can’t choose an empty transport as the other casualty.

    • RE: East USA ship movement in the atlantic.

Yes, the restrictions in the Atlantic are not as severe as those in the Pacific.

With the same reasoning, you could start preparations by moving your D-Day invasion on the coast of France even before Germany invades it…

Nonetheless in our games we tend to also leave the Atlantic fleet on the coast until war, but maybe we are being too strict.

    • RE: "International Brigade" in Moscow even after Republican Spain Aligns?

If a Comintern victory gets a free infantry in Moscow, there is nothing in rule 13.1 that this will change this when the status of Spain changes.

Note that this does not mean that Spain actually sends troops to Moscow, but implies that the communist victory in the SCW attracts volunteers to fight with the USSR, much as many volunteered to fight with the republicans in the real SCW.

However, if an Axis victory gets a free infantry (Blue Division) in Berlin, the status of Spain may affect this later.

Note that Rule 13.1 mentions that the Blue Division is placed in Berlin, but that the SCW Expansion Rules (v3) state that it is created in Madrid and travels to Germany. It also adds that Germany and USSR must be at war, which is not in rule 13.1.

SCW 6.1: Spanish Blue Legion: If the Nationalists win the civil war Spain will assist Germany (while neutral) if Germany and the USSR are at war. Once these conditions are met place an infantry in Madrid with the Blue Legion marker underneath it. This unit must rail in the next German non-combat movement phase to a German-owned land zone.

    • RE: Commonwealth Xtra Cash (Dutch Colonies and Wartime)

For Wartime Economy, the v3 rules specify that « Each turn during its Place Units and Collect Income Phase, the nation rolls 2D6… » and « British Commonwealth may divide the money each turn… » (rule 7.8 & Global War Tech Sheet v3.0).

« Each turn » must mean the same in both sentences, so if you do it by the book, you would divide it between Commonwealth members during that same phase, not set it aside as a pool for the next purchasing phase.

However, in a friendly game, I would probably let the Commonwealth player redistribute the Wartime Economy as needed for purchases to speed things along.

    • RE: What is the Best Toy for Representing Submarines

The type VII class for Germany in A&A is probably the most unstable, but I find that HBG has a lot of submarine models already available. It would not be very high on my list of priorities for them to make more.

    • RE: Free France

I don’t believe that having a factory would restrict the possibility of building limited types units according to the « Builds » section of the National Reference Sheet. Otherwise it would be a good argument for not building one.

    • RE: Strategic Naval Movement, which units?

That is covered in the errata sheet:

« Remove “Submarines may also start and end at submarine bases.” in 10.6

Add the word “optionally” here: “The only units that can be moved with Strategic Naval Movement are Naval Transports optionally loaded with land units or aircraft.” in 10. »

Also for some reason I can copy/paste the NRS but not the Rulebook, which is annoying since I do it often enough in this forum.

Does Free France get the French wartime bonus if the conditions are met? We always assumed they did, but I just noticed that these bonus are not repeated in the Free France National Sheet.

    • RE: Manchuria and Rehe

Well, in case that did not answer your question 🤪, Russia must return CCP territory, as it is part of the same alliance (Rule 9.20), but not KMT territory (9.21).

The problem is that they both have the same home country according to their respective National Reference Sheets, which includes Northern, Western and Eastern Manchuria.

So I am not sure if Russia must return it to CCP or may return it to KMT.

Does the answer change if CCP lost the Chinese civil war or had been eliminated?

Maybe GHG will take this one?

    • RE: Do strat bombers get a roll before the AA ?

@captainnapalm Regular AA artillery does not have first strike (Rule 12.2) and in the case of strategic bombing, it’s not the AA artillery that defends, but the one that is inherent to each facility. The bombing sequence is clear that bombers roll first, then AA, so there is always strategic damage even if the bomber is hit (table 9-9).

    • RE: Index

The version on the HBG website is searchable (CTRL+F) so that helps somewhat.

The problem is that a lot of specific rules or exceptions are only on the National Reference Sheets for each nation.

I would not want to have to draft that index.

    • RE: Attacking Madrid

This example is covered in the « Dual Terrains » rule 1.24 (v.3). The city gives +1 only to the defenders, but the attacking units still suffer a -1 penalty (unless they are Mountain infantry).

This is why, in our games, most of our lend-lease to Spain consists of Mountain infantry, as almost all of Spain is mountain terrain.

    • RE: UK/France Abyssinia strategy

I don’t really get the point for Italy to attack Abyssinia early. At best, you take it easily and the British will try to take it away once at war and at worse you lose a couple of units with bad rolls which will make it even easier, for them down the line.

I try to build Italian transports and get these much needed troops to North Africa before the Suez Canal closes.

If things are going really well for the Italians.and they take Egypt, they can always turn their attention south before the end of the War.

However, only two victory objectives can be scored for Italy with Expand the Empire. It could be with any two new territories, it does not have to be Abynssinia.

    • RE: Russian Color

I don’t know about your games, but in ours, the Italians and the Russians are not very often fighting for the same territories.

Plus, the point of having different sculpts is to be able to differentiate the units independently of their color.

You can always paint your units the color of your choice if it’s really a problem for you.

    • RE: USSR Declaration of War V3

USSR does not need to reach wartime income. The « declarations of war » section of the National Reference Sheet indicates when it can do so.

Rule 5.5 (v.3) specifies that only « in some cases » does the nation need to reach wartime income first, such as Great Britain for example.
