    • RE: Case Anton

Germany can send Lend-Lease to Vichy (Rule 14.4.3), but you cannot lend lease facilities, only IPP or Militaty units as was pointed out (Rule 7.9).

Furthermore, Vichy has no separate income since Germany receives income from all Vichy land zones (Rule 14.4.2 and Vichy QRS) and no build table, so its pointless to send IPPs.

Therefore, the only way that Vichy can get new units is through its Recruitement rolls or Lend Lease from Germany (and no other Axis power).

    • RE: Does the Global War 1936-1945 board game (third edition) actually exist? How can I buy one?

@athawulf Some territories on the map, especially in China and Europe still feel small and crowded even on the 5x10 map. Things get especially busy on the Eastern Front when Germany invades the USSR.

Fleets can also fill a seazone, especially if the British, USA, Japan or Italy concentrate a lot of their ships in a single seazone.

So no, the bigger map does not mean that you should use larger miniatures.

    • RE: Paint Ideas?

@Super-Semple : As @Ghetty pointed out, cheap acrylic plaint from Walmart may be your problem.

For the most basic colours I bought spray paint made for plastic at a hardware store that includes the primer, then add a spray-on varnish for plastic models when I am done.

For additionnal colours, especially if you are trying to match the HBC or AA out-of-box colours, I buy Tamiya model paints and also add the varnish when I am done.

While it’s popular, I personnaly don’t like painting the ends of planes or ships. That is why we buy so many different sculpts. You get to recognize them pretty quickly.

I only made an exception for black and white lines on air transports (this is a picture, not my models!).

    • RE: A list of terrains on some of the harder-to-see land zones?

@insanehoshi I agree with you that it is very hard to see the interior border lines on this one.
but I circled where I think the borders are.

The Macedonia / Thessaly border seems to me to be in a NW-SE axis.

I also see the black line that appears to extend West from the railway junction, but I think its part of the mountain terrain pattern. You can see a similar line above the “CED” in Macedonia.

I agree also, a small corner of New England separates the Northeast from Ottawa.

    • RE: FEC income when Calculta is occupied

I am not sure if your question takes into account the Errata :

      Far East Command Reference Sheet:
      Home Country:

Add: “If Calcutta is conquered, FEC loses its possessed IPP, but may continue to build units in other land zones.” (Page 1, Applied to v3.4)

Losing Calcutta and the possessed IPP would not prevent the Collect income phase (11.6) from the remaining territory for future turns. There is no need for a new capital. The immediate IPP loss only applies to Calcutta.

    • RE: Can Militia Be Built From Factories?

Of course, they do not require a factory, but can be built in any land zone, even in a territory containing a factroy

However, I think that normal restrictions would still apply, even if you have a factroy (number per turn up to IPP value, min. 1. Max 1 in captured land zones).

    • RE: Strategic Bomber question.

While not explicitely stated in the rules, Airborne Assault is a special kind of combat move (9.15), so you have to choose what your Strategic Bomber will do.

It could also Strategic Bomb (9.16) or Carpet Bomb (9.17), but it cannot do more that one type of combate during the same turn.

On a logistical side, if you fill the airplane with paratroopers, you will not have room for bombs and vice-versa.

    • RE: Fortifications on shorelines

Good question, but first can they be placed on a sea border ?

Rule 12.7 states that « Fortifications are placed on a border of a land zone and protect from attacks accross that border ».

I may be wrong but I understood this to mean a land border with another territory.

Compare to Coastal Artillery that is placed « along a land/sea zone border to Defend against Amphibious Assaults » (rule 12.9).

My understanding was that Fortifications protected from land attacks and Coastal Artillery from Amphibious Attacks. Again, maybe a wrong assumption on my part.

However, the rule of Special Fortification Zones (12.8) mentions both Fortifications and Coastal Artillery and includes some islands, so for this to make sense they must have some use there also… unless the fortification only protects the island from Airborne assaults ?

    • RE: Diplomacy Expansion Rule Clarification

I think this wording is mainly in contrast with the effect of positions 1 and 2 :

(1-2) “Any Minor Power attacked at this position will automatically align with the Major Power reflected.” (i.e. on the Diplomacy Chart a the time of this attack) vs (3) “Nations at position 3 are no longer able to be influenced and are guaranteed support if attacked.”

The important difference with position 3 is that their status is « locked in » and will no longer change during the course of the game once reached. I do not think that « guarateed support » changes the meaning of the rules except to say that you do not need to worry about another Major Power influencing them back.

For the consequences of control/alignment, Section 4 (National Relations) in the core rulebook still applies.

Yes, in the victory conditions, Eritrea is all the Abyssinian need to win this conflict. So, it’s a two-territory theater of war.

Hi, I got this expansion, but once the Finnish forces are in place at the setup, it seems almost overwhelmingly difficult for the USSR to consider attacking there. It’s just too scary…

    • RE: USSR Declaration of War V3

USSR does not need to reach wartime income. The « declarations of war » section of the National Reference Sheet indicates when it can do so.

Rule 5.5 (v.3) specifies that only « in some cases » does the nation need to reach wartime income first, such as Great Britain for example.

    • RE: Paint Recommendations?

I have recently found an fair match for painting Japanese units.

Tamiya Clear Orange X-26 was used here to paint the HBG Pumpkin orange truck. The result it a bit darker that the OOB A&A pieces (tank for comparison), but still good.

    • RE: Paint Recommendations?

Tamiya has some colors that are a fairly good match. Here are some that I used :

HBG Yellow-Green (KMT) - Tamiya Yellow Green XF-4
HBG Yellow (Nat. Spain) - Tamiya Flat Yellow XF-3
HBG Light Grey (Bulgaria/Turkey) - Tamiya Royal Light Gray XF-80

For Dutch Orange, CCP Red, and Plum for Spain, I used Premier or Painter’s Touch spray cans from the hardware store.

I did not need to paint anything in Light Blue as HBG has all the Free France units that you may need (and more), I believe, except maybe for a single TBD.

The best thing is to bring some miniatures to the store and match as best you can with the color cap on the can or bottle.

    • RE: How is the balance in Global War 1936 Version 3

Kudos on going for the largest 5x10 map. I have it and it is H-U-G-E. You still get some very crowded territories and knock off pieces accidentally, so I don’t know how players manage with the smaller versions. The quest for pieces is fun but expensive. Not all country-specific pieces are available, so painting pieces seems inevitable. It helps if you already own other versions of Axis & Allies too. Enjoy!

    • RE: Danish straits and "warships" meaning

Beating the proverbial dead horse here, but in the Glossary (Rule 0.9) :

Warship: Any surface ship that has an attack value (this would exclude naval transports and all types of aircraft carriers)

Surface ship: Any naval vessel that is not a submarine.

I agree with @Didier_de_Dax that « Surface Warship » is redundant since it’s already part of the Warship definition.

The distinction is useful for Aircraft Carriers, that are Surface Ships, but not Warships.

We could always suggest a correction to “Surface warships that go in the water (except for the bit that is above-water) but that you cannot land planes on” !

    • RE: Couple dumb questions

On carpet bombing, since in only lasts one round and the ground units do not fire back (rule 9.17), as the attacker you 100% want to do the carpet bombing first, since any defender that you eliminate by carpet bombing will not take part in the subsequent land combat with your other forces.
