      I think it all depends on your play style.
      I don’t think I ever will buy a Romanian IC or any IC with Germany

      If I really had to buy an IC, I think you might get more bang for your buck letting Germany take Greece and building a minor IC there with an AB. This way you can help the Med a lot more and protect Italy and SZ97 (you could build transports either in the Med or Baltic from there as well as it covers 3 sea zones)

      I think I would only build slow moving infantry or artillery for the first 1-3 rounds with Germany, otherwise you need mobile units (mech, tanks) and maybe more planes.

      I have never played against the Dark Skies Strategy yet.
      What is the German Success rate at the moment using this strategy? from what I’m reading almost 100% or something?

      My quick thoughts as the allies would be to keep Germany focused on the Western side of things as much as possible.
      I would place a NB on Iceland and use it as a staging ground to hit 2-4 Germany territories a turn forcing more land purchases and attacks on the West and less focused on the East.

      While at the same time maybe purchasing just tanks each turn with Russia and maybe get a good strafe or attack at the German East Force to remove the bomber’s “buffer” and make them purchase even more land units and make them pay dearly to march East.

      I try and make Japan pay for everything with all the allies in the Pacific and make them spread out and earn everything; I try and wear them out. I generally just keep enough going to ensure they don’t win the game in the Pacific.

      I like to employ a heavy convoy strategy if possible; there is a lot of convoys to place Anzac & US subs into; it gets really expensive/annoying for Japan to continue to replenish their destroyers clearing our subs and losing them to counter-attacks while still losing money in a few other convoy areas, which means less money in general.

      It’s great that the Axis can try all these crazy strategies and likely succeed against Allies who haven’t seen them before; I just wish the Allies could do similar things…I find it a bit unfair that the Axis get to have all the fun.

      I think that is just the way the game is, the Axis are the “aggressor” and need to attack to win; while the allies are the defender and need to react to the situations while keeping the big picture in mind. I think the allies are a lot of fun as well; with the UK being a lot of fun and involved everywhere and very important to the overall allied success.

      I’ve never used R&D in any of my games but I can see how it could be fun with some friends for a “just for fun” game to change it up a little.
      Like give each side a choice of 1 tech out of 2-3 choices that wouldn’t over balance it to much or something.

      I think for tournaments or league games it should be kept out to keep things more balanced and so you can compare all the games etc…

      Yeah I don’t think there is an easy way for the UK player to defend this type of move/strategy by Germany.
      Just because it will look like a normal push against Moscow.

      I think the trick is just maybe to get a 1-2 extra transports with Japan here and there to load up a move against Australia so that the Axis can time it right and grab a 6 VC win on the Pacific side.

      I think any game is much easier if know all your opponents exact moves (like the real war when the allies decoded a lot of the planned moves/attacks of the axis).

      This strategy would look more or less like a normal game for the first 4-5 turns (Russia has to defend/try and stall and the allies will need to try and help Moscow and or keep Italy in checked) while you know the grand plan is go for a Pacific Win.

      I like to just keep the opponents off guard as much as possible to give them more things to think about/defend against.

    • Germany Taking India - Go for Pacific Win?

      Hello,

      It’s been a few years since I’ve actively played Global-1940 on these boards.
      I’m just trying to think outside the box a little box on different strategies to keep in the tool box to keep opponents off guard.

      I was just wondering what the feasibility of going for a Pacific Win with Japan taking Australia and with Germany helping to take India.
      The idea here would be for Germany to do the normal Moscow Push (through the South territories) and with a decent size of Mech/Arm punch to India to help the Axis win on the Pacific Side? (Italy can even help Can-opener for Germany on a few territories to speed it up a little bit).

      One of my favourite strategies previously was to use to make it look like Japan was playing a normal game on the Pacific (with 1-2 IC on the mainland) and to make it look like a normal India attack; but then send a bunch of MEch/Arm torwards Moscow + bomber buys from Japan to help weaken Moscow before a German Attack. (you can then send the rest of the Japan Fleet south to the MEd as well) the idea here at the start is Germany would spend a little more heavy on the Navy at the start to blockade London and then German/Italy stack Gib). I found I won most of my games this way.

      And maybe my idea is completely dumb as well. It does feel a little weird going a bit against historical routes with these moves; but in the end it’s a game and the purpose is to try and win the game with the current set of rules  :-D

      Yeah it was Greece and Yugoslavia that delayed the invasion as they had to help out Italy, I don’t think that occupying those countries helped at all plus I think the partisans in Yugoslavia where some of the hardest ones to deal with?

      If they had an extra 1-2 months to take Moscow it would have been an interesting fight anyway; even if they took it (or was contested all winter) I’m not sure they win the war against the Soviet Union anyway. A lot of the Soviet factories were moved out further East, each spring, fall + winter always killed the Germans “momentum” and they didn’t have the resources/logistics/man-power to continue to re-start large attacks each summer.

      I apologize for commenting outside of the topic of the poll.

      Sticking to the poll I think Panzerfaust would have helped more during 1941 with idea of mobility in mind to just continue knocking out tanks and keep on moving and not getting bogged down.

      Winter Gear as mentioned would have been great, but so would have just invading 2-3months earlier instead of being stuck frozen in the snow in December outside of Moscow.

      I think what also helped the USA in the Pacific was the type of war it was; wasn’t the majority of the Japanese land forces fighting in China? The USA could use their wealth of equipment and air-power to good use this way.

      I like the idea of the different start-ups and scenarios and maybe more victory conditions for the Global Games.

      I don’t think WW2 Axis & Allies games are dead either; I like the idea of more Theater type games as well like:
      Eastern Front (have lots of territories; maybe make good use of rail-roads and blitzkrieg tactics etc… have extra "special infantry to represent the SS and other stuff)
      Stalingrad would be cool…
      Kursk would be cool…

      Maybe some form of Atlantic Battles (subs vs convoys etc…)
      Maybe some form of Battle of Britain (air battles) or some form of Bombing strategy game of the allies vs Germany (air battles).

      I think there’s lots of games and ways they could still go.
