RE: Can Germany win without a Baltic carrier?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
nobody would try dropping in on Germany for a while.
That should be a power-house with some fgts around it to prevent the UK from even thinking of landing on it even if the seas are clear.
-
RE: Why should I build in the Baltic?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I would rather lose a few inf in the first rounds cause of UK landings and BB-shot then 2 fgts and a purchased AC (not to mention potential other fgts loss in Ukraine or the med)

RE: Why should I build in the Baltic?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
and I beat him when he did by the AC as the axis.
in my game vs him the AC was totally worthless. I hit Africa hard first then the Baltic navy. it was round 3 or 4 and I lost barely anything.
I bought it vs him as well and didn’t like it and also lost as the axis in this case.

I meant,
are you going to start using an online board as well? or stick with your actual board.

RE: Why should I build in the Baltic?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Land based fgts can be exchanged between WE and EE for the first little while which is what I was trying to tell you.
WE fgts can reach all the territories on the front except WR (I wouldn’t hit Arch with them either) but you can hit Kar, Belo, Ukr with a few WE fts and land them on EE, use the figs already on EE to hit Ukr, Belo or Kar as well and land some on WE to replace the 2-3 fgts used from there.
if an AC isn’t purchased on G1 it doesn’t merely mean your baltic fleet is doomed on turn 1, there is ways around that. (turn 3 I ussually kill the baltic fleet as the allies anyway) so if you can keep the british at bay for the first 1-2 turns and a 3rd, its just as good.
-
RE: Why should I build in the Baltic?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
The Last point you just mentioned seems to me the “only” thing worthwhile with the AC in the baltic.
beyond that I agree its very useless. you can exchange land-based Fgts just as easily with them based on EE/WE
me as the allies prefer the Africa route first to ensure Med fleet is pushed out or destroyed then by turn 3-4 with all the fgts piled up on the UK, baltic fleet is destroyed. so the strats I ussually tend to do for the allies make it very useless for the AC in the baltic… seeying how I don’t even go near the area for 3-5 turns.

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
As switch as mentioned, as Germany I would love that strat by the allies.
UK isn’t getting Africa back by themselves… Sorry…
if you keep sending 4 Inf to Afr via US thats 12 IPC there… I’m assuming after turn 3-4 US is only making 38 as it is.that would leave high 20’s left to spend on a all out-pacific fleet? that doesn’t make sense to me.if UK does a delay attack on Africa (waiting till turn 2 as Darth mentioned) I fail to see this as a way of clearing german troops out of Africa.
How does the UK plan to defend the UK itself? kill the Baltic fleet? kill the joined Med/Baltic fleet? I don’t even see them taking and holding Norway without US or Russia preasure.
Switch i’m on your side for this debate. I don’t see how the allies can recover from letting Germany go full throttle. A full throttle Japan is always less fearful then Germany.

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Japan has a start-off fleet around East-Indies designed to kill the British fleet. It could intercept and kill it before it would link up with the States Navy. thats just 1 option.
-
RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I would have to argue that Russia/UK might have a hard time stopping the Germans from getting them.
Russia will have to turtle after turn 2-4
Germany can hold the North and at least strafe or kill British reinforcements. while perhaps going into Cauc with the Japs.

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
UK’s Fleet in India SZ cannot reach Sol SZ on turn 1
-
RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Jen,
As Switch as posted… it will take the States WAY to long to accomplish anything in the pacific.
and by going the pacific route.
UK is almost useless… (All of Africa will be in Germanys hand in no time)
Russia will be helpless without american help. (moscow will fall by the time the States are re-building trns in the pacific) considering pretty much Germany’s full might will be sent after the russians and thats 45-50IPC worth a turn to use vs russia.
-
RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
divertion was my ally against you.
I believe I diverted you everywhere and anywhere, from the Med to WE to EE and most of Europe then into Asia then into the Pacific.
The quick boot I gave you out of Africa always helps too.
by the time you had taken Cauc (errors on both our parts led to this) The russians always outnumbered or stayed even wtih the ger/jap combo of units on Cauc which was good news for me considering I ahd 20+ tanks and 30+inf = pretty near impossible for the axis to take. that didn’t count the few figs I had there, or the few more I would of sent and made had I known moscow would have been in any real danger.

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
My idea with the perl fleet still alive was to buy 3 subs, 1 AC turn 1, 4 fgts turn 2
turn 3 hit SZ 60 with 4 subs, 8 fgts, 1 bmb possibly a BB and the AC’s and a trn. still a lot for turn 3. but that wouldn’t of worked out. He would of holed up in SZ 61 or the W-Jap SZ

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Hey Darth,
does this pacific move have anything to do with the move I pulled off on you to seal Japan’s fate and the game? using fgts from W-USA and AC’s already in the area?
I like it so much that in my tourney game they left my pearl fleet live, so I almost convinced my partner to go along with the idea. but thing is in that case I’m glad I didn’t… horrible dice has the russians very limited in troops and territories.
but I was found of that Pacfici move :-D
-
RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I just finished a 1 on 1 match vs her with me being the axis, she didn’t go the pacific route with the States.
I had horrible dice, lost all my navy and fgt to kill 1 trn on turn 2, and she crushed my front-line german troops with hardly any casualties.
I prevailed in the end with my quick thinking money grabs with the germans/japs.

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Good grief Jen,
Didn’t you see how fast alone my japs moved vs you in our last game?
First turn is an IC, 2 trns to supplement the 1-2 trns already there. (first turn you shuffle 2 divisions) J2 you build another 2 trn + inf divisions, you just shuffled and added 9 more divisions (thats 11 already) turn 3 you can shuffle another 13 divisions
after 3 turns with just 1 IC on the mainland and 4 trns we just shuffled 26 divisions to asia (the islands should be empty by now, so going on your 33$ a turn, were looking at 11 inf a turn for 2 more turns to equal 48 divisions into Asia after 5 turns…
and your doing your attack on Japan poorly I say… you know the first wave is going to be pretty much destroyed, why waste 8 trns… only build a few but mostly attacking ships like subs or AC’s + fgts (fgts in W-USA can reach Jap SZ 60)
so after 5 turns you can easily shuffle 44-48 divisions into Asia
USA --> pacific = Allied loss

RE: Critique this US strategyposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
if the States go purely Pacific…
Russia will fall long before the Japs ever will.
How do you plan on killing there navy etc? your talking about many turns of constant all out navy to get anything achieved.
Japan starts with 2 trns, 1 SS, 1 DD, 2 AC, 2 BB, 6 fgts , 1 bmb (not counting first turn looses) + add some extra 2-4 trns and thats one nice defensive unit.
trust me its just not worth it to go all out in the pacific, you will simply not get anything accomplished in time before Russia falls. One Russia falls… Japan definetly has a bigger economy then The States after turn 3-5 and it will be easy for them to defend themselves.
