Could you play global 42 with the balance mod or is OOB just right? I didn’t see a BM3 map for the global 1942 and was wondering if anyone has tried it.

@simon33, certainly the game works with two UK economies and there are lots of things to enjoy about the way that pans out. I’m not saying the game is broken, just discussing alternatives.

One advantage to the unified UK economy that I noticed in the SiredBlood variant is that the Allied player has much more control over their level of risk with respect to Sea Lion and India Crush. Some people (like you?) complain that the UK has to buy 100% infantry on turn 1 to fend off Sea Lion. Other people complain that India is doomed and that the Allies have to make massive, urgent efforts to contain Japan, like maybe a turn 2 Persia factory that pumps out mechs for India. So if you can slosh your economy around, then you can choose which of those two ignominious fates you suffer.

Want to play aggressively in the Atlantic? Build 10 infantry in London and a factory in Egypt; go crazy. Want to play aggressively in the Pacific? Let London go, drop 2 mech + 2 tank in India on each of UK1 and UK2, declare war, and go for a Yunnan stack. It leads to more variety in terms of the opening positions that you can reach, which I like.

That said, I hear you on getting Canadian fighters to Moscow. If you’re not playing with my Supply Crates for lend-lease, and there’s no Sea Lion attack, then Canada could have little or nothing to do.

      @barnee
Well if you use the Tamvaan mode PLUS you make the cruiser cost 12, able to transport 1 infantry and A4 and D4 when paired with a BB you could balance out both germany and japan since you slightly buff the Soviets and anzac enough to counter Japan.

Yea I like the idea of taamvan’s mod because it doesn’t change much. I think I’ll make the NOs except for lenningrad a $3 option. Give some more flexibility with it.

Is that what you’re trying now ? My initial thought is that D4 might be too powerful, as my impression is the defensive fleet usually has the advantage.
      I’ve never tried it though.

Only made it a couple rounds in my test game before I decided on another approach : ) so haven’t really got much action with A4.
Decided to let planes target capital ships before regular combat starts. Didn’t seem right that AA shooting at them and they just gotta take it heh heh.

Anyway, let me know if you want a triplea option for testing.
      Rock On :)

Welcome. All depends on what you want in your game. Play ability or more historic.

Yes there is a lack of room on a d6 dice. No room to adjust pieces better. Mostly the Cruiser and Destroyer.

Also you probably should remove your Ad for buoys.

@taamvan though I agree that crippling Germany is challenging you really can slow it down if UK builds up a fleet in Canada and Air Force in London. Than you convoy any where possible and continuous bomb the factories. You will take loses but your spending your income delaying and slowing down Germany’s offensive which buys Russia more time and allows US to get involved. That’s about the only ways that I know that is effective against a powerful German player. You have to keep your fleet off the GB coast line to protect against a air assualt. Need to be able to scramble.

My issue with that is you can’t hit Germany, only W. Germany from London and Germany can leave 4 fighters there to put make repeated bombing runs unlikely.

Also, typical is Moscow being threatened about G6. Its tough to build a fleet that can worry Germany at all with UK when UK1 is building inf and a fighter, then a lot of your air power shifts to the Med to sink Italy’s fleet, can make it back for combat on UK4. So buys on UK2 and 3 are around 60ipcs. Do you really devote that to transports and ships to keep them afloat?

I’m usually a factory in Persia and UK3 and UK4 I spend 60 ipcs on fighters for Moscow. So UK1 is a London buy so no Sea Lion, UK2 you spend 12 ipcs on a factory and then maybe 25 on… it depends. Fighters? Bombers? Troops and a transport for S. Africa? UK planes can land on Russia’s Karaellia if its safe to make it to Moscow in 2 turns…Or shift South if Italy’s a problem.

All the best to you. Maybe a good suggestion would be to have copies of 42.2, AA50 and Global and then set up the board that fits with the time, players and space you have. Many people can’t leave a big board set up over multi sessions and so a shorter, lighter game would be appropriate for new players or shorter meetups.

I still keep my playbook for this version in mind, as it is consistently the best attended and largest tournament at Gencon–you get to play 3-5 games in just over 2 days so its alot like a chess/bridge/cribbage tournament…busy and having fun all day with a variety of opponents.
