I don’t know. I’ve won every game since I started ignoring China so I don’t know. How do you guys take over China?
What setup have you been using and where is the Axis gaining victory, Europe or Pacific?

Japan, I enjoy the naval battles and all the amphibious assaults they do. Plus, I love to shock my opponents by using the islands to stage a lot of my air force for killing small Allied fleets.
Another thing I noticed about the setup is that some of the starting incomes aren’t correct. For example, Japan starts out with 31 (which is correct according to the setup), but they are not at war with any of the Allies, except for China, so they should receive that NO.
I really don’t think this setup limits the Axis options.
Ever since I started playing global, i used the “spheres” you mentioned. It makes more sense to group rather than say Mongolia becomes pro-whatever if Spain or some neutral country in Africa is attacked.
Knp7765, it’s a '41 setup. I apologize my original post was incorrect, I’m in the middle of my second game of the alternate setup, here’s the link for the setup: http://www.harrisgamedesign.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=6834
I especially can’t stand Europe, a lot of battles take place there and there isn’t enough room for all the pieces. All the other continents have quite a bit of space. I must agree though that it still a fun game.
How about oztea’s '42 setup? It’s posted in Harris Game Design forums, the setup is very interesting and essentially skips the first two rounds of combat. There are few other interesting things, the Germans in Africa and a fairly larger Japanese navy.
Is the Central United States adjacent to Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba? It doesn’t appear to be that way on the map but in reality it would make sense they are adjacent territories.
I like to us the American bombers in the Eastern United States and attack the Japanese fleet, if Japan decides to do a Pearl Harbor that’s unsuccessful. Using submarines to wipeout lone carriers, in which base the planes are killed if the sub scores a hit on the carrier.
Here’s a question,
How often do people REALLY buy Battleships? maybe, once or two a game, as Japan or USA?
I certainly don’t think I’ve ever seen a player in a normal game have more than 4.
Perhaps Battleships are overpriced?
And maybe you should also consider, that Cruisers aren’t overpriced, but that subs, destroyers, fighters, and bombers. are _under_priced?
Gargantua,
I play against a lot of players who have less experience, and they like to buy a bunch of battleships as the United States. As Japan, I tend to avoid the American fleets as much as possible. As the Germans and Italians, it is much more difficult to avoid the American fleet. What’s the best defense against BBs?
Another house rule for cruisers is adding torpedoes, allowing them a surprise attack much like subs. During WW2 there were a fair amount of cruisers with torpedo capabilities.
I agree, that’s the only way I see it working out, I also have the Japanese keeping the Americans occupied, I was going to attempt to use the Italians as well from Gibraltar to hit the US. I’ve only considered this strat cuz my opponents don’t see a lot of my moves until they happen. I know this strat is extremely risky, which is why I’m only slightly considering it.
Kill America Third, Germany has already captured England and France.
I’ve completed two rounds as the axis, they are setting themselves up for a victory if the dice cooperate. The board has been up in my living room for weeks and I’ve been contemplating a serious run at invading America using all three Axis powers either in the third or fourth turn. Has anybody ever had any success with invading America, maybe not the Eastern, Central, or Western territories, using all three axis powers in the same turn?
I chose other because I usually react to my opponent and see what will be best for the Germans economically. Usually Sea Lion is successful so I use the transports to attack Leningrad and push North. If I don’t use the transports for the north then I go for a entire frontal assault the Russians because my opponents (usually newbs) don’t usually fortify the front lines or do an NCM.
Just to double check, Naval and Air bases can receive up to six points of damage before they become inoperable, correct? And what is the maximum damage a naval or air base can receive?

I personally would not attack the United States especially with the lack of ground units you have if you are planning after going after the mainland. I’ve seen the most success with Japan going after Calcutta (sp) first, to cripple the Allies in the Pacific. I usually build a naval blockade with destroyers around Hawaii, similar to the Russians leaving one infantry in each territory. Essentially my naval blockade keeps the Americans away until turn 4 or 5, while most of the Japanese air force and navy are on the front door of Calcutta. Even if they do get to Japan, in my experiences the Americans never seem to have enough land units to actually take Tokyo.
I don’t have the map in front of me, but taking borneo or Malaya and building a naval base there is key to eliminating Calcutta.
I’ve played Axis a few times and found my aggressive strategy is very effective, I can probably recall about three or four victories out of five or six games I’ve played as Axis.
I’m from Muskego and I’ve a got a friend who lives in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, I go to school in Texas and I’m only home a few times a year.
I’ve got a group of three or four guys in Muskego, the most southeast city in Waukesha county north of Racine and Waterford, just west of Franklin. We usually only play during the holiday season because most of us are away at college. I have a pretty good spot to set up global and we could have a fair amount of players if any of you are interested.
