I stayed, yes. Ideally I would have liked to score 2 hits in the second round, leaving only the fighter (or the damaged battleship), but I scored 4/4.
One of the rare occasions where more hits are not necessarily better. But am I going to complain about 4/4?

Overall my Axis game is a lot weaker than my Allies game.
Withing the Axis game, Japan usually is by far my strongest. In most of my games, Italy is doing okay too (considering it’s Italy…).
But my biggest weakness is conquering Russia. I somehow never manage to do it. That’s why I tried to go almost all-in on land units this game.

Yeah gg.
It was an exciting game and my only hope at the end was an above-average result for me here, against Germany and Japan. But it was the other way and you even got Cairo without Japanese help…
I had probably the worst UK1 I ever had and then also took a lots of hits in China with my US troops (I specifically remember the one turn where you shot down 4 planes!!!). Then you got that brutal dicing in Jap10, sinking my Navy for +101 TUV instead of +33 on average.
And of course Moscow… I probably shouldn’t have stayed and rather drag your army north. But I couldn’t have predicted this harsh result either…
To be honest, the only major battle I remember going my way was very very late in US11, when I got a +38 against Japan. This was completely irrelevant though.
I would love to play a rematch against you. I’m not even asking for favourable dice this time, only average would make me happy haha.

Thanks for the input on AAA guns.
The more I think about it, a 97 attack on UK1 does not seem to be the best course of action in most cases.
It seems to be stronger to merge the UK fleet at Gibraltar (maybe even with an airbase) and deny Vichy with one transport

I hit the 2.5% in my last game against Simon, where the Italian destroyer lived.
That was really bad, because my whole UK1 turn was based on merging in 92 which was not possible anymore. I lost Egypt as a result later on. I liberated Cairo later and I think I’m gonna win this game, but that’s partly because A) I had some luck in Pacific, which gave USA the possibility to invest more in Europe and B) I think I am a better player than simon. Against an equally strong player, that would have been game over.
Merging in UK92 with the airbase seems the way to go. Even a destroyer blocking the fleet will not help Italy much, because the fighter stack at Gibraltar can sink the Italian fleet anyway. Happened to me in another game just recently. I went all-in on TRJ and Alexandria in Ita1, blocking the UK fleet. German planes secured Alexandria.
UK2 sunk the Italian navy with air only, landing the surviving planes in cairo. Had barely enough to defend - but barely enough is still enough, since Italy can’t reinforce without a navy.

Exactly.
Everything is connected basically. WHEN I win with Axis, I usually get Moscow last after I won other areas - Japan often sucks so many resources from US, sometimes even getting the middle east and therefore even sucking resources from UK too. Russia can’t stand against Germany forever without help… -

Yeah these 5 subs in 6 were a gambit. I tried to find the sweet spot, where an attack was ALMOST but not quite a good idea.
I love kamikaze for this exact reason - often times the Allies can’t attack because they can’t be sure if a destroyer survives or not. Especially since hit units can’t fire back.As Allies, I sometimes try to attack without the absolute need to win, just to get these kamikaze out of the picture because it is so hard to calculate properly if Japan still has access to them.
Now over in Europe, I actually have placed myself in a difficult situation. I knew what awaited me but I tried to postpone thinking about the choice for as long as possible. But I’m afraid I can’t drag it out any longer.
On the other hand, with your big royal airforce and navy, there was not much Italy could do to save those few precious ships…These Italian Airplanes are so valuable to clear blockers… on land AND sea. On the other hand … you do have Anzac / French units on hand anyway…
Send those 3 fighters out, I’ll blast some British planes out of the sky with them!

Yeah, Japan can use a lot of subs and it’s not always easy to resupply them. I have to take the few chances I get.

By the way, we made a mistake earlier.
Remember when I moved some of my Japanese Troops into german occupied Russian territory?
My goal was that you cannot attack them without declaring war at me first.
But then you DID attack the German troops in Round 10, just ignoring the Japanese troops. I thought to myself, that I must have remembered the rule wrongly.
However, I was right. It’s a mistake in tripleA, the game notes even list that:
"Rules specific to 1940 the engine does not do, but you must follow:
…- (PE) You may not attack a territory containing units owned by a nation that you are not at war with (even if the territory is owned by someone you are at war with)."
Now, this was round 10 and in round 11 I declared war on Russia with Japan. I don’t think we can resolve this now, I just have to live with that.
