    • RE: The Lyndon Johnson tapes: Richard Nixon's 'treason'

Before you starting posting, it was a climate of having a number of Liberal and Conservative people arguing only from that frame of reference. They are mostly gone from these forums, but in that time numerous arguments occurred and only because it was a republican-democrat fight of ideas.

but in that time numerous arguments occurred and only because it was a republican-democrat fight of ideas.

I am neither a republican or democrat, I am a Canadian and I don’t give a flying !@#$%@#$% who runs your country IL.  If anybody is injecting politics into MY THREAD it is YOU IL. Either talk about the subject or don’t post in MY THREAD.

They are mostly gone from these forums

IL, you say they are mostly gone.  Well if that is the case then why are you entering into MY THREAD going on about things that no longer occur?

IL, you are not a moderator.  It is NOT YOUR JOB to harasses members.  Again, if you feel I am violating the spirit of this site then I encourage you to file a complaint.  Actually, I think I will.

Now, back to my thread before it was hijacked by political accusations….

Last Jack, thanks for your comments, I would never have known about the Anna Chenault/flying tigers connection.  I’m pleased that it was not something that I missed in the article but rather your more in depth knowledge on that facet of the story and drawing the connection for others.

Anna Chenault was the wife of the Flying Tigers commander?  Really?  I didn’t know that or missed that in the article.  Interesting……

      MC…it seems your always complaining.

IL, for a guy with a master’s degree I would expect you to know to use you’re not your when making false accusations about me.  But then again with your Master’s Degree from Stanford you believed you were taught that Hannibal was born in Turkey.  Wrong then and wrong now.

OK, IL, you made your statement that talking about a historical president is both talking about history and talking about politics.  What is your point?  It seems to me that you troll the forums looking for posts by myself in order to insert you dislike for me into MY threads.

IL, if you feel that I have violated policy here then complain to a moderator about my posts but please ply your troll baiting antics in somebody else’s thread.

History is history.  When history offends an individuals point of view then it is that individuals problem.  History should never be censored to support a personal opinion.  That opinion of course is nothing this author can say is non-political and that the so called offended individual is trolling the forums looking for this authors posts in which to launch trolling posts.  Quite sad actually.  If my posts are so offensive to this individual then perhaps that person ought to just ignore threads created by me.  It seems most of the spats here occur in MY FORUM threads between this individual and myself and Garg and that same individual.

Garg, I agree, Nixon was a hero in many respects.  Sadly, he stove too hard to be president and it caused him to make some rather poor choices.  But then again I don’t have a master’s degree in history so what do I know.

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21768668

Declassified tapes of President Lyndon Johnson’s telephone calls provide a fresh insight into his world. Among the revelations - he planned a dramatic entry into the 1968 Democratic Convention to re-join the presidential race. And he caught Richard Nixon sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks… but said nothing.

Hitler assassination plotter Von Kleist dies

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21760460

A former German army lieutenant who took part in a plot to assassinate German leader Adolf Hitler in 1944 has died.

Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist died aged 90 at his home in Munich last Friday, his wife Gundula told the Associated Press.

Mr von Kleist was just 22 when he volunteered to wear a suicide vest at a meeting with Hitler.

But the devil is in the details.  Did he ask politely in between asking for loan requests or was it a bit more assertive as in threats of tariffs to compensate for theft?

I have no problem giving them present day value.  Less development costs and interest of course.  Should work out to a couple grand.  But as my injury attorney says, you start high in negotiations and settle on a reasonable amount.

Ironic indeed.  Let’s hope it’s an immature attitude but I fear it is not.

Women are the majority of students at Ryerson and in college and university overall.

That statistic has been true for awhile.  It depends of course on the program wg.  Sadly computer science has not changed much.  I recently took a few 4th year courses at Brock, machine learning and a specific 4th year comp sci math course.  3 girls between the two courses where the class size was 20 and 25 students.  So 42 males versus 3 females.  Comp Sci is atypical of classroom makeups by gender, I was seriously thinking of taking a woman’s study course just to get female exposure.  The girlfriend did not see the merit in that!

Ah, so THAT’S what that thread was about, should have read it first I guess!

It does go on to say they don’t actually want the same land, just compensation.  Obviously they would owe some development fees etc.

    • RE: How could Germany have won the war?

I find it interesting that my post got a -1 -2.  So, this person(s) believes that Indians are inferior to Brits?  Well that would be racist.  Or does that person feel IQ and technology are the same thing?  Well that would be stupid.  Stupid or racist, what a choice….

Zooey72, you believe Europe gave up it’s colonies as a condition of the Marshall plan?  In theory that may have been a requirement but in practice colonies of France and England in Africa went on for decades.  Some of the African names may not be that significant, but perhaps if we move to southeast asia… Vietnam ought to ring a bell to Americans.  That was a colony of France.  Not only did the US offer France aid under the Marshall plan but took over the fight basically.

      http://www.historytoday.com/sami-abouzahr/tangled-web-america-france-and-indochina-1947-50

In particular, the Marshall Plan, which provided Western European countries with aid and a framework for European co-operation during the years 1947-50, played a vital role in the development of US policy towards Indochina. Washington needed French co-operation in the reconstruction of Western Europe along US policy lines, and this requirement made it impossible for the US to condemn or attempt to alter French policy in Indochina. By 1949 the US had become committed to keeping Communism out of Southeast Asia within its own Cold War strategy. This pushed the US to pour money and aid into the hopeless French attempt to keep its imperial possession. By the time the French abandoned the effort after the catastrophic defeat at Dien Bien Phu (1954), the US was financing 80 per cent of the French war effort, and had committed itself financially, politically and emotionally to preventing a Communist victory there.

You also feel Ghandi played little part in the independence of India, in your opinion then what was the big moving force there?

With your low opinion of how other countries got their freedom you must be proud of how Vietnam got theirs.

Some of the countries on this list were colonies of Europe until the 70s.
