Windows is a deeply flawed operating system and has been for decades.  Seems that is no barrier to popularity.

The Dimona site is not a base.  Bases are areas from which American forces can reside and project power.

Well there has to be a distinction between a facility and a base.  I can live with your arbitrary line.  Now with Pakistan, the Pakistanair bases from which US drones flew….If the drones are not armed then its like Dimona, just a facility for info gathering.  Put a hellfire on one of those drones and now you are projecting power so it becomes a US base.  True, the Pakistan bases were under command of Pakistan air bases, but the US drones were not under Pakistan control.

Wiki does appear to be fairly liberal in what they classify as a base granted.

Wiki nor any other site is a great place to solely cite from.  Many people go on to point how inaccurate Wiki is.  Granted it has errors, but if it is so choke full of errors it ought to be easy to point out a slew of them.

The map is from an article here:
      http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-worldwide-network-of-us-military-bases/5564

This article talks about ‘bases’ in Australia that form ECHELON.  Surveillance yes, information does help project power.  But we argue semantics.  Is a US spy facility a base?  Well that last article calls them a base.  I hate arguing over the meaning of a word.  Great sparring with you by the way!

Kim, sorry.  Obviously I am unfamiliar with the relationship at hand between Larry and Flashman, that in fact there was one.  I was under the impression it was just a humourous faux interview from somebody not closely associated.

Flash, still funny as all hell, but since you are much closer to the game than I had thought it would not be hard to construe your ‘interview’ in a more negative light.

rjpeters70, I guess as long as you don’t officially call them bases there are no bases.  There are facilities with US servicemen operating US equipment under US command for US purposes.

You say nothing in Australia, I say read this:
      http://theconversation.com/memo-stephen-smith-there-are-us-bases-in-australia-and-they-are-expanding-8622

You say nothing in Isreal, I say research this:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimona_Radar_Facility
The Dimona Radar Facility is an American-operated radar base in the Negev, staffed by 120 US military personnel.

You say nothing in Pakistan, I say research this:
      http://www.thebureauinvestigates.com/2011/12/15/cia-drones-quit-pakistan-site-but-us-keeps-access-to-other-airbases/

Wikipedia mentions all three countries in their list of countries with US bases.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_military_bases

Yes, we can agree to disagree.  I can agree that you disagree with boat loads of easily researched material that supports the original premise.

If basing or bombing is done clandestinely, it still occurred.

Logically, when a person complains about  ‘A’ you would think the problem is really ‘A’.  I’m logical, when I hear a complaint about ‘A’ I assume that is really the issue.  It usually is unless the person complaining about ‘A’ is a woman.  They you have to put the detective hat on  to determine what exactly you did wrong, and make no mistake about it, you have done something wrong!

If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Bitchin’ and scoffing at the designer is not part of the solution.

      Kim

Comrade Kim, what is allowable commentary here in your opinion.  Should we vet our comments with you to ensure they pass the gestapo thought police?  On a serious note, frankly, if people have a problem with a game I want to hear about it.  This is not a cheerleader site, this is a gaming site dedicated to a game I enjoy and if there are any concerns in the community I for one want to hear about it.  If this place becomes nothing more than a cheerleader site i want no part of it.  Moreover, you should exceed the 100 post tally before telling people with 1000s of posts here what can and can’t be said.

Umm, good enough to get me banned from HGD…

Seriously?  Love to hear more on that story!

There is a position called Liaison.  From what I understand two whole users have this special position.  Perhaps this position should be responsible for tasks like this since their primary responsibility is getting rid of spam (and/or new users and donors) from what I understand.

Not sure how most Americans take being called ‘bro’ but at least in this part of Canada is actually a nice thing to be called bro.  As far as being called a boy, well, perhaps look at the post count.  Perhaps novice poster would be more PC then boy.  But there is no mistake with dipshit.

You call the map bullshit, but your points of contention have all been addressed.  Your objections seem to be fallacious.  Arguing the name of a country ie China versus the PRC is semantics.  I’ve seen some of your posts in other threads rjpeters, they were respectful so I welcome a respectful debate from you in the future.  En garde!

Canada gets all proud of itself when we take on foreign fishing trawlers, if we actually bombed a country we’d probably die of exuberance.   Typically Canadian to have our glory in a turbot war.

    • RE: Most overrated WWII weapon

It is very ignorant to call strategic bombers overrated.
the allied bombing plan starting in 42 was to destroy city crnters and kill/displace as many civilians as possible. And they did this EXTREMELY well

Heavy bombers might have been extremely good at killing civilians.  But killing civilians is a very very poor way of bring a war to a close.  The bombing of civilians in cities did nothing but galvanize the civilians against the bombing nation!

Gamerman, why do you think the 9/11 comparison is such a reach?  If the intent of the 9/11 bombers was to scare off the US from middle east activities I think that goal was a spectacular failure.  As was bombing london a failure to bring the British to their knees as was bombing the Germans a failure to bring their citizens to the point of surrender.

You say London was ripe for invasion during the bombing of London?  I don’t think so.  The people of England were FAR FAR from the point of wanting to surrender.  The bombing of London’s purpose was to make the English give up, how did that work for the Nazis?  How did the bombing of Dresdon work as far as making the Germans was to surrender?

Yeah there were remote control turrets, it was quite the piece of engineering!

The Kee Bird was a United States Army Air Forces B-29-95-BW Superfortress, 45-21768, of the 46th Reconnaissance Squadron, that became marooned after making an emergency landing in northwest Greenland during a secret Cold War spying mission on 21 February 1947.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kee_Bird

      Very interesting!

Carpet bombing of cities never did break the spirit of any enemy I am aware of.  As for bombing industry, I believe the accuracy of bombs dropped was something like on average a 5% chance the bomb would land within a mile of the target.

OK, after a bit of research the accuracy was a bit better but not by much!

In reality, the day bombing was “precision bombing” only in the sense that most bombs fell somewhere near a specific designated target such as a railway yard. Conventionally, the air forces designated as “the target area” a circle having a radius of 1000 feet around the aiming point of attack. While accuracy improved during the war, Survey studies show that, in the over-all, only about 20% of the bombs aimed at precision targets fell within this target area.[148] In the fall of 1944, only seven percent of all bombs dropped by the Eighth Air Force hit within 1,000 feet of their aim point.

Could you create a trigger in the DB that counts how many new oddly named files have been inserted then every X inserts do a delete based on the query?  Dynamic SQL generation was my thing using cough cough VB.

My hunch is that it was domestic terrorism.  A marathon seems like a strange target for a foreign terrorist.  I wonder what cause would ‘benefit’ from the death of a few people including an 8 year old kid?  Certainly nothing I support.

That is the game, are the allies fast enough.  It truly is a race against the clock and the clock is when Russia falls.  Some games russia falls about the same time Germany does, then the race is can Japan liberate Germany before it’s too late for the axis!

An India IC can be hit by so much by Japan in R2-3 if they half expect it.  In my opinion you can only do an India IC against an inexperienced Japanese player.

The file size for global games is about 75 kb each. One round had 8 countries so 8 saves gets posted. Average game is 10 rounds. Yep. Adds up hard. Battlemaps makes a dent as well. Each global game is 6k kilobytes! Ouch.

      Yeps got to delete stuff.

1 gigabyte only holds 166 games! Some deleting must be done!

If the save files are about 75kB each wouldn’t you get about 13, 333 save files per gig?  Correction, I see we were talking about saved games being 80 save files.

Lets assume the average save file is 100K each, then you get 10, 000 per gig.  If you had a TB of site storage you would get about 10 million save files.  I’m not sure what is being paid for storage but I would think 10 million saved games per TB year should cover the site.

I find it hard to believe it todays age that storage of non-video files is an issue.  If it really is, then a process on a timer could delete certain files extensions that are of a certain age or older.  It really ought to be trivial to set something automated up.   Something slightly more complex would delete all but the latest save file for tripleA as each file contains all the legacy turns.  Each iteration of battlemap would be kept as they are small and are required for turn by turn following of legacy games.
