    • RE: A Valentine's poem for nerds:

Garg is correct.  Since it is RGB, the first number corresponds to Red, second number to Green and third to Blue.

A value of 0, 0, 0 means zero brightness for Red, Green and Blue.  255, 255, 255 is white because that is what you get when you mix red. blue and green light.

Violets are 0,255,0 in RGB means zero Red and Blue and full power to Green and NOT violet hence an error only a geek would spot!

The range of 0 to 255 is 256 combinations which is what 8 bits gives you, 2 to the power 8.  Three 8 bit values gives you 16 million colours possibilities.

      Hear, Hear brother Herr KaLeun!

Faith can unite whereas religion too often divides.

Then there are the extreme religious nut jobs who in my opinion give religion a terrible image.

    • Earn a Billion and pay negative taxes on it!

I read this and it made me shake my head.  Tax policy is a pretty dry subject no doubt.  But there is a story to be told when a company can earn a billion dollars in profit and actually pay negative taxes, ie, not only pay no taxes for a year you earn a billion but actually get taxes paid in previous years refunded!  If that was not enough fun for a year, you also get tax offsets for future years ensuring you won’t pay taxes on your next few billion dollars in profits.

    • RE: Meteor Falls in Russia

Turns out the meteorite was a bit bigger than a car.

The estimated size of the object, prior to entering Earth’s atmosphere, has been revised upward from 49 feet (15 meters) to 55 feet (17 meters), and its estimated mass has increased from 7,000 to 10,000 tons. Also, the estimate for energy released during the event has increased by 30 kilotons to nearly 500 kilotons of energy released. T

Discussing religion is one thing.  Saying one should follow a religion or book I think is crossing the line.   Saying you fail in life because you choose not to believe in god I think is also crossing the line.  Now go a head and down vote this post as well, I shall take pride in that.

You can try to live a good life and may still fail because you demanded in your choice to live without God.

If people insist on thumping bibles in here then they’re going to be counter examples posted.

Now if there is no thumping of bibles then there are great conversations to be had IMHO.

      I’ve got one…

The Ontological Argument: God is Perfect and Thus Exists

      1. God is the most perfect (‘the greatest’) being conceivable.
      2. It is more perfect (‘greater’) to exist than not to exist.
      3. Therefore, God must exist.

    • RE: What if Czechoslovakia resisted in 1938?

If I recall, most of the tank and munitions factories were in the Sudetenland .  So again, once you had over your defensive fortifications in the most defensible part of your nation which contained your armaments factories you have given up 75% of your defensive ability.  Once you factor in the phscological factors of knowing you already gave up it becomes hard to imagine it having a huge impact.  No doubt if things were different they would not be the same, the question is by degree and here the degree is maybe a percentage or two of things measurable IMHO.

I agree, for obvious reasons religion should be left out of these forums.

I did address this to humans.  There is no logical point in talking to god.  By definition god is omnipotent, so he knows what I am thinking before I do.  In fact, by definition, omnipotent means god knows everything I ever will think.  So logically, if he already knows, why tell him again, just wasting time.  I don’t mean to be offensive, but the concept of god is kinda silly and should be left off of this forum, Praise be to Allah if it is.

Once the Sudetenland had been handed over they were screwed.  As Herr KaLeun mentioned, that is where they had planned to put up a defense in the terrain that highly favours the defender.

      @aequitas:

People would and will learn when they start to read the Bible.

But only the good parts of the bible right?

      Psalms 137:9
“How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock,”

      So killing kids is blessed?

Timothy 2:12,  “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent.”

      How Talebanish….

Samuel 15:3: "This is what the Lord Almighty says … ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ "

All out genocide, just what the bible ordered……

Peter 2:18: “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.”

God for slavery, how cool is that?

Quoting the bible is all fine, but NEVER abdicate personal responsibility and some critical thinking.  When an adult is screwing a child its time to stop protecting pedophiles in the name of god.

      @Jermofoot:

Gay marriage should and will be legal….

It’s been legal in Ontario for awhile.  Ontario, you can marry a fag but you can’t smoke one!.  Before anyone goes all PC on me, don’t bother.  I’m more of a gay basher basher then you’ll ever be……

Nothing wrong with gays getting married.  I don’t like some churches won’t marry gays but I guess that is their right in their house of worship.  But this is not about being gay, its about being a pedophile.

There does appear to be a bit of a double standard when the perp and victim are both female, especially if the perp is a cute chick.  All of a sudden a HE goes from a PEDOPHILE to SHE is FLIRTY.  A flirty pedophile?

Some of the comments make me sick.  “SO what if she was 13, she wanted it!”.  A 13 year old is in no position to determine if a sexual relationship with an adult in a position of authority is healthy or not.  That is why minors are protected by law.

      http://www.calgarysun.com/2013/02/15/flirty-mentor-of-teen-convicted-of-sexual-exploitation-invitation-to-sexual-touching

As for personal vs personnel.  I hate it when I make that mistake, that’s why I like to A) use simple words and B) refrain from claiming to be overly perfect, just somewhat perfect.

      **A Valentine’s poem for nerds:

      Roses are 255,0,0
      Violets are 0,255,0
      I don’t have a Valentine
      I don’t know why. :(**

_Sad thing is, I had to point out the error when I read this….

Technically, Violet is (238,130,238). (0,255,0) is lime green.  Still pretty funny to a nerd like me._

      @variance:

Today a Meteor destroyed Russia and it got me thinking.  In 1908 another one landed in the Tunguska area and it was awesome.  That could have happened during the war and changed the course of human history.  So I made up a house rule to bring that into the game and make it more historical and cool.

      TUNGUSKA EVENT
Once per game, the allies can roll a dice and if they get a 1, a comet made of anti-dark matter crashes into the “Timguska” territory and ALL units in that territory are destroyed!

Not sure what anti-dark matter (normal matter?) is but a few tablespoons of anti-matter would be enough to wipe out the planet.  Similar to a large dogs tail wagging near the game board I guess.

Following the thread I see somebody posting then somebody launching a personal attack on this poster then a back and forth.   Pity nearly every thread becomes a platform for a repetition of this behaviour.

I agree with Jesse Ventura, the catholic church should be prosecuted as an organized crime syndicate.

Jesse Ventura on Bill Maher 4/16/10 saying the Catholic Church should be prosecuted using the RICO laws set up to fight organized crime.

Polygamy and homosexual marriages while not my cup of tea are completely different from pedophilia.  The former if done between consenting adults……who cares, they are consenting and adults.  The latter involves a minor whom can never agree to anything sexual.  Harsh criminal penalties should be assumed to be applied to anyone who crosses this line with no debate nor defenses like “Yeah (s)he was 14 but (s)he did agree and I have it in writing”.

Well, the Spanish did settle British Columbia first.

Well technically Siberians were the first……

As far as Canada being stuck with Montreal, Canada pretty much was Montreal, a few fur trappers and voyageurs and of course… victorious British soldiers.

    • RE: Meteor Falls in Russia

The size of that rock over Russia was probably about the size of a car.  Seeing a car coming at your from a million miles away when it’s doing about 9 KM/second is asking a fair bit from those pesky scientists with all their facts and lack of budgets.

They are hoping in a few years to catalogue everything from 1 KM in size and up, I think they estimate they have about 93% of the objects that size found.  For every object that size there are probably about a million the size of a house to a car.  They will NEVER be able to see objects that size coming with any amount of time to do something.  Lucky to see an object 1 KM is size.
