Granted Anonymous is a great counter argument to my profit motives argument.  But it is distributed across many nations and does have a pattern to its attacks, and so does unit 69318.

I am hoping that the recent revelations by Microsoft, NYT etc will force a change in policy and that nation state forensic teams can prove beyond doubt it is state sponsored IT theft.

I honestly think most companies are scared to piss off China so don’t complain to loudly.  Nortel was embarrassing for Canada.

China’s fall will be health issues from pollution.  Once the citizens feel they can force improvements then the playing field will even out.

 Who is not accepting it?  IL, you are just hijacking a thread and I wish you would stop.   Do you really need to state the obvious that your country has 10 times the people so therefore it is larger and more powerful?  [edited by GG]

This thread is not about US position in the world, that thread had been resurrected from the dead where you also hijacked it insisting I am anti-american.  If you insist on thumping your chest and proclaiming your country is better than mine at least do it in the correct thread.

Please stop hijacking threads MR. Liaison.

Ugh, maybe I should just abandon this thread……

If it was their land they could go to a bank and get loans against it in order to develop it, but they cannot, so it is not really their land the same way the land is owned by non-nativeland holders.  My buddy cannot get a mortgage on his house on native land in order to expand his business as he really does not own the land, the band does.  There is no way for him to get a mortgage.

The money that is being paid goes to corrupt band leaders while kids live in third world conditions.  It is only the fault of non-natives in that we don’t have performance metrics published for all to see.  Its hard enough to reveal financial dealings of the band leaders personal finances and many and varied connections to band business.

We were having a nice little chat until somebody decided to start slagging one country in order to make their country look better.  IL, you want to argue that the US is more dominant well nobody is arguing against that, in fact, that is not part of the thread.  But BULLY for the US of A, #1 soon to be #2 GDP, #1 military soon to be bankrupt.  Bully for good ole uncle sam!

Now can ya quite hijacking this thread with your anti-Canadian sentiment?

Garg, IL is arguing that the US is more dominant than Canada, he might as well argue that hot is warmer than cold.  I think we can both agree they have a larger military and GDP, one would hope with 10 times the population. I like the US of A just where it is, below us……on the map of course.

Subtract from that what the natives could have earned on their land had it not been taken.

Again, no doubt lots of room for improvement.  But if we want people to fend for themselves, we cannot allow them to be held hostage to tyrants that government policies have empowered.

Hey Garg, remember that genocide thingee that was mentioned?

I had to google “International Common Law Court of Justice” to make sure it wasn’t some tambourine banging pot smoking fringe group of hippies.  Seems it carries a bit more weight then some hippies, not by much…we are talking about the UN…

If anything, Canada’s problem is too much resources.  Makes us lazy as it’s too easy to sell raw materials versus actually making stuff with it.  Ship iron to Japan to purchase it back in the form of a lexus….

Garg, can you convince the natives over there to allow the pipeline through?  A few of my buddies make pipes out east here and are laid off for a spell.  We have some diamonds, nice and shiny just in case a bit of bribery is required….!

Wow… 50 First Nations leaders earn more than the Prime Minister every year…

Best beer around and ice wine for those who like it sweet.  But first and foremost is Canadian Rye, best resource around.  Oh yeah, and only one of two industrialized nations with a triple A credit rating.  The other one lost two world wars and still kicks ass on the world scene economically.

Garg, congratulations on becoming a  Liaison!  I have a feeling you will do GREAT things for the community!  It will be such a joy to see your brand of humour, but now you will have to be more …… nuanced with your differing opinions vis-a-vis mine.  Who am I kidding!  Have at it!  En garde!

The unit 69318 case…. It could be just a group of a few 100 computer scientists who routinely breach the firewall of china on a 24/7 basis with huge resources and working out of a state owned building with massive fibre optic hookups.  In a nation where its dangerous for two falan gong members to talk, having 100s of people working for years breaching nation-state firewalls is just beyond belief that the state is not aware and supportive of this.

Same with Nortel.  You just can’t have this kinda of persistent attacks going on without state support.  Gangs and individuals steal things they can make money on.  What China is getting is unique to state actors.

For instance, what financial gain would gangs get from jamming the broadcasts of the BBC?
      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-21575913

If the US can prove a smoking gun, you really thing they will punish China with trade embargoes?  No, when a bully can not only steal your lunch money but just take it in front of your parents and teachers nobody dares to mention the 8, 000 lb gorilla then you know you are dealing with a tough bully.

I would love to see China be made to play fair but nobody dares speak the obvious.

but the answer would also depend on what “best” means in this

Good point, I initially read this as meaning the best tactician or battlefield commander who lost.  Now I am thinking most gracious loser?  That opens up the door to a whole different selection.  General Lee perhaps?  Most French generals?    :-P

Casualties included wounded and missing in action not just dead.

      For Stalingrad:

      For the Bulge

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge#Aftermath

I look forward to reviewing your citations that differ widely

My point being that somebody in command of an entire theater of battle for a partial period of time that saw 30, 000 dead ought not to be in the same league as commanders of geographically small areas in which larger numbers of dead occurred in mere days for a losing battle or campaign.

      @aequitas:

Groß Admiral Karl Dönitz for loosing the most men on one Battlefield then any other in any other Battlefield during WW II. Worldwide.

I’m not sure how you came to this conclusion.  Donitz was only the ‘Grand Admiral’ from January 1943 on wards.  The German losses were 30, 000 dead in the battle of the Atlantic for the entire war.  Perhaps add another 10, 000 to cover the losses of other surface raiders and we have about 40, 000 dead over 6 years covering oceans.

Compare that 6 year battle with a few other short battles.

Battle of the Bulge, German casualties 100, 000

Battle of Stalingrad, German casualties 800, 000

But to be fair, if you lump all of the atlantic and 6 years into one battle, then compare that with the battle against Russia where 40, 000 died in a day a few times.  The battle at Kursk produced 170, 000 casualties and that was over in a day or two.

      Donitz got a bum rap!
