      Very interesting article Frimmel.

It is important to read the footnotes however.

In this and the previous article on the Ryerson matter, I conflated Ryerson Student Union (RSU) with Ryerson University, which are two separate entities.  The efforts to censor the discussion of men’s issues emanate solely from RSU and not Ryerson University.

All that being said I will acknowledge that tradesmen and construction sites can be less than professional workplaces.

Unlike say a software design house where the white collar geeks play networked video games and surf porn……

    • RE: Forgot my password

You got to keep a second browser installed that you rarely use, perhaps only for trouble shooting.  With that browser you can delete all your cookies without losing some you want.  After deleting all cookies use it to visit websites that are giving you issues and in that way you can eliminate bad cookies as the culprit.  If it works with browser B you only use for testing with no old cookies and NOT browser A that you normally use then I would suggest deleting site specific cookies.

Probably not the issue but you got to remove it as a possibility at least.

Garg, you have to admit construction types are a bit more accustomed to shall we say….blunt talk.  I just came from a site with 4 guys working on a job for me, those MEN would not have a problem with being told they stunk if they stunk.  Or were drunk when they were drunk or being a dick when they were being a dick, they call me out when it needs to be done.  Maybe construction types are different elsewhere.

Now if the guy was in a ballet troupe or a lawyer…

I wasn’t going to comment but positive feedback should not be withheld.  The choices were pretty amusing especially the one about the original Nova version, I wish I still had mine.  Had the question been “ever” and not “last 5 years” I would have been honoured to check that one.  I guess I really am getting old!  Say that to me at the gym after an hour sonny!

As usual thanks for the historic lesson Witt.  I see some douche gave you a -1 so I upped it back to a zero at least.  It is beyond me why somebody would down vote history, its history for Petes’ sake not a personal opinion……  To forgive is divine so let’s do a group forgive on the wretched soul.

    • RE: Should people with very low intelligence be BANNED from driving in winter?

Depends if the tire spins, I was thinking on ice.  In that case, go around the corner giving just enough gas not to slow down the front tires.  I usually give it gas and purposely slide around, tough to do in a front wheel drive, you have to give it gas and brake to stop the back tires and not the front.

I LOVE standard but one thing new drivers can do wrong is down gear and let the clutch out too quickly or not give the engine a bit of gas to sync the speeds.  Again as a young driver I did that, it broke traction on the front tires as I popped the clutch and the car was pushing the engine up to speed for that gear.

My 4wd is pretty much a winter beater, got it used for 2 grand a few years ago.  Not the best on gas but spending 10 grand more to save a bit of gas seems a poor usage of resources.

Now the standard z28 would be a hoot in winter!  Not that it has seen snow in the last 2 decades tho, its first decade I can’t speak for!

    • RE: Should people with very low intelligence be BANNED from driving in winter?

The trick to turning control on ice/mud is to hit the gas.

Garg, you must drive a rear-wheel drive?  If you hit the gas with front wheel drive and they spin, you go in a straight line.  Found that out when mom went from the 76 Nova to the 85 Skylark.  I still remember the look on the face of that guy crossing the road as I was slowly sliding towards him before I learned on the fly, recovered and went on my way!

Now if you have chains or studs on the tires different thing, not legal around here……

I LOVE rear-wheel drive in the winter!  Vehicular ballet should be an Olympic sport!  Nothing like spending 3-6AM in a parking lot full of fresh snow while the police are too busy dealing with clowns in the ditch or worse.

Witt, snowstorms in England make for good news clips here!

Normally we don’t get whacked by cold here too much, being between a few great lakes keeps the temperature moderate.  But one time Lake Erie froze over which rarely happens now.  In any event, imagine 100s of square miles of ice covered in a foot or two of snow then being blown onland by a storm bringing a snowstorm to boot!

Google the blizzard of 77 ,.  I doubt you would have to add " southern ontario "

I remember they would only let you walk home from school if you had a buddy who lived  really close by, and they would call to make sure somebody was there and that you got there.  It was not that big a deal to walk 1.5 KM in that weather save for maybe 1 day in that event.

The rest of Canada makes fun of southern Ontario for how much we whine about winter!  Well except for the west coast, screw them right Garg!  wry grin

No doubt they had something on wiki, I never read that article before!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_of_1977

My friend had a snow drift up to his window.  He was on the second floor of his house.  Some people actually had to use the second floor windows to get out in order to shovel the doorway out.

      imminent cataclysm of stupidity.

It is rather succinct and descriptive.

Momentum is a double edged sword on ice.  Driving on ice is really easy, it’s when you want to change direction/speed that is tricky.  Of course I did grow up stealing my mom’s car as a 13-15 year old playing in the snow and ice in the collage parking lot next door.  I like driving in snow and ice.  I drive a 4 wheel drive jimmy and where a muscle shirt, yeeeeHaw!

    • RE: How could Germany have won the war?

I did not mean to imply the US was selling goods to Germany after the declaration of war, my mistake, I should have been more specific.  I would also like to add that it was not the US government but US corporations which have a mind and motive of their own.

      http://www.ranknfile-ue.org/uen_nastybiz.html

      So anyways,

The Lend-Lease act was enacted 9 months before Pearl Harbor but well after the outbreak of WW II.

I didn’t know this until just know, from wiki…

Formally titled An Act to Further Promote the Defense of the United States, the Act effectively ended the United States’ pretense of neutrality.

Germany may have easily been able to use PR to delay or even prevent this act from being passed.  Britain was running out of gold and prior to this act the US could not sell war materials on credit.

If this act could have been delayed until 1942 and Germany been better prepared with subs in the Atlantic then I think Germany would have a good foundation for choking out England.

    • RE: SUBS Overpowered -and- SUB Clarificaitons

I really need to reread the rules again.  Garg, destroyers do not negate sub first strike at all or just 1 to 1 on an enemy sub?

Tigerman77, a sub+cruiser attacking another sub….the attacking cruiser cannot attack a defending sub without a 1-1 destroyer so the only reason to bring it along is for fodder?

I could see if the attacker took of the sub foolishly…then the NEXT round the sub would get a first strike IF the attack were pressed a second round even tho the cruiser could not hit the sub, kind of like attacking a second round when the only thing remaining is transports where all the attack units were lost?

It still makes subs a bit too good of a bargain for me.  No longer do you need destroyers to pick of marauding subs but a swarm of cheap subs yourself.  It could easily devolve into a war of attrition with subs.  Perhaps not a bad thing….  In any event, it changes many things.
